Jeff Mangum

The presence of the former Neutral Milk Hotel frontman Jeff Mangum is one of the real curveballs in this year’s Coachella lineup. All Tomorrow’s Parties events aside, the once-reclusive Mangum doesn’t really seem like a festival guy. But Neutral Milk Hotel fandom is a powerful thing, and if more people are watching Mangum, that probably just means the “Oh Comely” singalong is going to be louder. In the leadup to Coachella, Mangum has just announced a few West Coast dates, and we’ve got them listed out below.

4/09-10 – Oakland, CA @ Fox Theater
4/14 – Indio, CA @ Coachella
4/16 – Seattle, WA @ Moore Theatre
4/18-19 – Portland, OR @ Crystal Ballroom
4/21 – Indio, CA @ Coachella

  1. This picture of Jeff always reminds me of those Dateline stories where there’s a slow zoom-in shot to a picture of the now-missing/now-dead/now-crazy son of the sad parents in happier, normal times.

  2. I noticed none of these coachella bands have announced a san diego date. is the contrast clause bigger than usual this time? kind of a bummer

  3. Nick, heh! I see what you mean.

Radius clause? As in, “if you’re playing Coachella, you can’t play another gig within so many miles”? That sucks. I think Bright Eyes usually plays Pomona the same week he/they play Coachella, though.

  4. An LA show would be nice. Closest one to me besides Coachella is still 400 miles away.

  5. Yes. Please add an L.A. show!
