The Flaming Lips

The Flaming Lips spent their 2011 hooking up with various different artists; during the year, they released collaborative EPs with Neon Indian, Lightning Bolt, Prefuse 73, and the Plastic Ono Band. And this year, they’re planning on rounding up a whole mess of musical peers for a whole collaborative album.

Talking to Rolling Stone, Wayne Coyne says that they’ve already recorded music with Neon Indian, Nick Cave, the Plastic Ono Band, and Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros. Coyne also says that Bon Iver is currently working on something for it, and Coyne also has a wish list of artists he’s hoping to get on board. That list includes Lykke Li, Erykah Badu, and, um, Ke$ha. Do not doubt this man! He can do what he wants!

Coyne says that he’s hoping to release the album in April, and if anyone can pull something like this off, he can. The Flaming Lips, after all, are the rare band who manage to will their goofiest ideas into existence.

  1. I, for one, would love to hear a Flaming Lips/Ke$ha collaboration.

  2. Don’t knock Ke$ha. Well, she’s better than Edward Sharpe, at least.

  3. I’m picturing Justin Vernon’s vocals put through ultra-distortion til its barely recognizable

  4. It makes sense that Ke$ha would eventually work with the Flaming Lips. She has a glitter fetish. They have a confetti fetish. True love.

  5. I’d love the version of this that was full of songs, but I don’t see that being what they’ll do in 2012.

  6. Hey check out (and like) an awesome video interview with the singer of The Flaming Lips Wayne Coyne at:
