Them Crooked Vultures

They’ve come a long way: From being just a couple of scrappy upstarts playing a bunch of unreleased material at the Metro this summer, three practically unknown dudes named John Paul Jones, Josh Homme, and Dave Grohl (along with megastar Alain Johannes of course) now have a full US tour plotted, kicking off last night at Stubb’s in Austin. And people are actually buying tickets! Crazy. We’ve been tracking down live clips from their forthcoming debut the past few months, but you’ll wanna try and see it for yourself: for a supergroup, they’re surprisingly vital. Check out Pooneh Ghana’s photos from Thursday night’s tour opener while perusing Them Crooked Vulture’s US tourdates:

10/01 – Austin, TX @ ACL Fest
10/05 – Nashville, TN @ War Memorial
10/06 – Columbus, OH @ LC Pavilion
10/08 – Detroit, MI @ The Fillmore
10/09 – Toronto ONT @ Sound Academy
10/11 – Boston, MA @ House of Blues
10/12 – Philadelphia, PA @ Electric Factory
10/14 – Washington, D.C. @ 930 Club
10/15 – New York, NY @ Roseland Ballroom

Any chance that the vanity has worn off of this…?

  3. I was there and it was embarrassingly horrible. JPJ plays a bass with some sort of “lite-brite” thing on the fret board. I felt like I was watching a lounge singer who had his dad playing bass (while trying desperately to look hip) and a drummer who was very comfortable in the pocket. On the other hand, Alberta Cross blew away the crowd that stayed for the after-show.

  4. ‘Megastar Alain Johannes’… lol … shame! the poor guy does need some credited. Why pick on John Paul Jones’ age Toddc… c’mon dude, it’s about the music!
