Making an entry into the pantheon of rockers covering The Simpsons theme is Alison Krauss and Union Station, whose bluegrassy arrangement recently came out to celebrate the show’s 500th episode. Stream Krauss’s take below, and if you will join me to hash out what episode of The Simpsons is the best ever in the comments, it’d be an honor.

The 500th episode of The Simpsons aired last night and will be posted on their Hulu page next week.

  1. “You Only Move Twice” is the best episode.
Best musical moment: tie between “Did someone order the London Philharmonic Orchestra? Possibly while high?” and Elvis Costello: “My image!”

    • “Homerpalooza” holds a comfy spot atop my list as it kind of summed up the peak of ’90s alt culture and my youth. 6th grade, first kid in my class to sport a Smurf ringer t while listening to Mazzy Star or R.E.M.’s “What’s the Frequency Kenneth?” on the way to youth league basketball practice — the calm before the storm when we were still naive and youthful, but forming our own identity’s. This had nothing to do with the actual episode I now realize, but whatever, SY was in it.

  2. gotta be the one where they go to canada to get pharmasudical drugs. There are so many amazing episodes, so it’s so hard to decide.

$pringfield (or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling).

“Very well, begin the thawing of Jim Nabors.”

    • Robert Goulet: Are you sure this is the casino? I think I should call my manager.
Nelson: Your manager says for you to shut up!
      Robert Goulet: Vera said that?
