Black Tambourine - OneTwoThreeFour

The D.C.-area early-’90s twee-pop originators Black Tambourine are back together and ready to release their first new record since breaking up in 1991. In May, they’ll release OneTwoThreeFour, an EP of Ramones covers. And below, we’ve got one of the EP’s tracks: The band’s blissy, fuzzed-out take on “What’s Your Game,” a sweetly spiky pseudo-ballad from the Ramones’ 1977 sophomore album Leave Home. The Black Tambourine cover has backing vocals from Dum Dum Girls leader Dee Dee, as well as members of the Softies, Tiger Trap, and Honeymoon. Download it below.

OneTwoThreeFour is out 5/15 on Slumberland.

  1. I love the Ramomes.

  2. Dee Dee from the Dum Dum Girls and Black Tambourine together? Amazing. I heard “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” is gonna be on this album. Can’t wait to hear it.

  3. I’m a fan of Black Tambourine…so don’t get me wrong, I’ll listen to the new release…but what sparked the reunion? 21 years later they want to give it another go? Will anyone besides shoegazers and twee poppers care?

    • Hi duga,

Q: What sparked the reunion? A: Chickfactor 20th Anniversary parties. CF was founded by our singer Pam and our close friend Gail O’Hara.
Q: 21 years later they want to give it another go? A: Nope, just playing these parties for an anniversary we care about. The new record was made to help fund costs of travel, accomodations, etc. We haven’t been together in a room in two decades, plus we all have full-time jobs and young children, so “giving it another go” doesn’t really describe this situation.
Q: Will anyone besides shoegazers and twee poppers care? A: Not sure I understand the significance of the question. Did anyone besides those people care the first time around? And who cares if those are the only people who cares? For the first time *ever*, we’re going to play in front of people who want to see us.
