With the 500th episode of The Simpsons airing last Sunday, the last few weeks have been a celebration of everything Simpsons, where all your favorite pundits and prognosticators have combed through the show’s venerable timeline to select their favorite gags, cameos, characters and episodes. And, we, like them, desire to reside within the seem geekish glee of choosing our own favorite Simpsons memories within our site’s own viewfinder, so today we present The Simpson 10 Greatest Rock Moments involving rock musicians cropping up in the best show of all time. The Smashig Pumpkins were the real Homerpalooza gueststars’ at the time, with also jokes about Cypress hill and sonic youth … but the Peter Frampton’s jokes about his sandwitch and Inflatable Pig bought from Pink Floyd were definetly the real matter !

The Smashing Pumpkins… making teenagers depressed since 1988! That was a great moment.
all of “Homerpalooza” is outstanding. But we wanted to pick ten different episodes. My excuse: “I used to be with it, but then they changed what “it” was. Now, what I’m with isn’t “it,” and what’s “it” seems weird and scary to me.”
As long as “El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer)” is on this list I’m happy, but “Lisa The Vegetarian” could be in there somewhere too.
Every second of that episode is a classic…right up until the point they bring on the McCartneys. Then, it’s a mediocre, slightly-preachy meh.
The first 10 minutes of that one were epic, as I recall. The trip to the petting zoo (“Out of the way, you!”), the “BBBQ” invitation, the Beef Council video (RIP, Phil Hartman), a classic Ralph (“Sleep! That’s where I’m a viking!”)…
What I learned from that episode: You don’t win friends with salad!
List fails for not including the rest of the incredible “Homerpalooza” cast, which includes a brilliant turn from Peter Frampton as well as the Smashing Pumpkins. List fails for not including the Who-heavy “Tale of Two Springfields” episode. List fails for forgetting that Ringo was the first Beatle to lend his voice to the show, in a great display of humble self-mockery of his own fame for just being a Beatle. LIST FAILS FOR COMPLETELY FORGETTING THAT “THE SIMPSONS” HAVE ALSO HAD PAUL MCCARTNEY IN ONE OF THE MOST EMOTIONALLY TENDER EPISODES OF ALL TIME.
Michael Jackson doing an entire episode?! Not worth your time, even at number 10? Nope. Jack and Meg uttering all of three lines. Funny, sure. But not ‘great,’ and certainly doesn’t rank when you’re talking ‘greatest.’ Change the title of your list to “Ten Things Related to Rock That We Remember from ‘The Simpsons,’ and I’m sure we can call it even.

MJ really should’ve been high on this list. That episode was fantastic, even though, IIRC, he didn’t actually do the singing bits. He had his own sound-alike do it, because the show couldn’t pay his going rate to sing.
Aerosmith’s performance during the Flaming Moe episode (and Mrs. Krabappel trying to bed drummer Joey Kramer) was worth a mention.
I guess in 500 extremely-popular episodes, you get a ton of rock cameos, and it’s tough to narrow down a list. Or as I believe they say on the internet, “U Suk ballzz, list FAIL!!1!1eleven!”
“Mrs. Krabappel, I really need my drumsticks.”
Linda Ronstadt’s “Mr. Plow” should also get a mention, as it is no doubt her finest work.

I believe that is John Frusciante, but it does appear that he and Flea have switched instruments for that particular performance.

Homerpalooza should have been Number One! Possibly my favourite Simpsons episode, pure genius.
It wasn’t exactly “rock”, but I do believe that David Byrne appeared in a musically themed episode
The Smashing Pumpkins appearance was one of the best for sure. My favorite is Aerosmith when they play Moe’s bar. Steven Tyler screaming “Hello, St. Lou-issssssssss!” Joe Perry: “Dude, we’re in Springfield.”
There are a million photos & music moments from the Simpsons…one of the best music comment I ever heard was when Homer was talking to a blues saxophone player about why he was sad….saxman responds “The blues ain’t about you feeling sad. The blues are about making everybody ELSE feel sad, so that YOU feel better!”
