The Shins - "Bait And Switch" Video

The Shins’ “Simple Song” video was a fun, whimsical, ambitious family narrative with a fully realized plot, but the band’s new clip for the sparkly, uptempo Port Of Morrow track “Bait And Switch” takes the opposite approach. It’s strictly bare-bones — just the band playing a song in a practice room somewhere. But it’s nicely shot, and the song, it bears mentioning, is great. Watch it below.

Port Of Morrow is out 3/20 on Columbia/Aural Apothecary.

  1. It’d be nice to have a jam room like that. It would also be nice to have James Mercer’s melodic sensibility.

  2. Well. Yeah. This is obviously a great song.

  3. So it’s introduced with “Portland, Or” and features a guitarist that looks like Carrie Brownstien… It is just me, or does this video feel very “Portlandia?”

  4. i never thought i’d be excited for another shins record but now i am

  5. “bait and switch” is what i call the game i play with my third eye blind AND IM SORRY THIS IS ALL I HAVE.

  6. is it just me or does it seem like they are over-exposing this album?

kinda like noel gallagher’s high flying birds last year, the release date seems to have been set a bit far out, and they (The Shins? The record company?) try to keep the hype rolling by releasing new songs/videos every damn week.

i mean, i know i don’t have to listen if i want to wait for the record, but who can resist?

it’s like the spoiler-filled viral marketing of movies now. teaser sights, 3+ trailers and tons of clips/interviewsmaking-of material put out before the flick hits the screen.

    good track, though.

  7. I’m sorry but seeing this just makes me miss the old band members. I know the music is supposed to be paramount over everything else, which includes aesthetic or image, but when they entered pop culture with “Chutes Too Narrow” and the Garden State OST, their image was everywhere and I think it became one with the music.

NOT saying this song isn’t good. It is. I think James Mercer’s NEW Shins will be playing catchup for the entirety of it’s tenure.

  8. I’m not sure how nobody is talking about Jessica Dobson’s (now guitarist for the shins) new album as Deep Sea Diver. Her first EP was great and she just released a new album a little over a week ago that’s bloody well fantastic. Dare I say better then the new shins album which I have yet to hear as it is not released as of this date.

    • Wow, I didn’t realize that was the woman from Deep Sea Diver. I saw them open for Spoon a few years ago and was really impressed. I downloaded their EP and even saw them a second time at Spaceland (as headliners). I will definitely check out the new album. Thanks for the heads up!
