Earlier today, Spiritualized stopped by the BBC Radio Station 6Music to do a live-in-studio performance. In the process, they debuted a warm, elegiac new song called “Little Girl.” After the great “Hey Jane,” it’s the first thing we’ve heard from the forthcoming album Sweet Heart Sweet Light. Watch them playing it below.

  1. So “Little Girl” will follow “Hey Jane” in sequence on the new album. I like it when bands pre-release songs in the same order as the album.

I really hope Sweet Heart, Sweet Light introduced music fans to Spiritualized as Songs in A&E did for me in 2008. I had never heard of Spiritualized before 2008. It was one of those moments where you mentally curse yourself for not listening to one of their albums earlier.

My message to anybody checking out Spiritualized for the first time: Check out his first three albums. Lazer Guided Melodies, Pure Phase and of course Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space are all masterpieces.

Hopefully 2012 will be a year where people discover a new favorite band. Discovering Spiritualized is easily one of the best music memories I possess.

    • I’m with you on being late to the Spirtitualized party. I actually saw them live before I really knew who they were and once I figured out how great they are I was kinda bitter I wasn’t able to fully appreciate that experience. I haven’t heard anything before ladies and gentlemen, should probably get on that. Let it Come Down is really good too, although Amazing Grace is skipable.

      • I always skipped both, lol.

You should tackle Pure Phase next. I’m of the small minority that thinks Pure Phase is better than Ladies & Gentlemen. Honestly.

“Lay Back In The Sun” is arguably Spiritualized’s greatest song.

    • Also, liking the new tracks.

I’d be curious to hear if anyone can think of a band with a more underrated career. They have been around forever, have one album that is univerally considered a classic, and they are still churning out the goods.

  2. embarrassed to say i hadnt listened to any Spiritualized until Hey Jane was released a couple weeks ago… i was floored and have been spinning all their old LP constantly in the last couple weeks… enjoyed the stuff so much got tix to see them in Detroit, cant wait

    better late than never

  3. Um, is it just me or isn’t that Phil Selway from Radiohead playing drums?
