Silversun Pickups - Neck Of The Woods

Later this spring, the ’90s-style L.A. dream-rockers Silversun Pickups return with Neck Of The Woods, their third album. This morning, they’re letting everyone hear the album’s leadoff track, the riffy-but-floaty “Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings).” It’s a big, wistful windows-down type of thing, and you can listen to it below.

The track is out now at iTunes, and Neck Of The Woods arrives 5/8 on Dangerbird.

  1. It kind of takes a few notes from M83′s “Intro” and Jacknife Lee seems to have manicured bigger shoegaze hooks in a similar way that Flood and Alan Moulder did last year for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.

SSPU have never been really all that bad, but I really hope this time around, the entire album is a solid listen rather than contain a few good singles, a few so-so tracks and a handful of skip-overs.

    • I’ve always been satisfied with the band’s output and I’ll argue they’re as strong on stage as any of their contemporaries, but I don’t disagree with you. When they released Substitution, which toned down all the fuzz and distortions for a more straightforward sound, I thought they’d turned a positive corner.

At their best, their music showcase a strong signature riff (Lazy Eye. Panic Switch. Future Foe Scenarios. Kissing Families.) which I wish this song had. But I’m excited for Neck of the Woods.

  2. I dig it. It does feel a little more spacey then their other stuff but I think it could be a good evoloution for them

  3. Ive always wanted to like this band, but as soon as the dude starts singing….naaah…..

its so squeaky and nasal . And I can tolerate Billy Corgan’s voice.

  4. very moving, and much more loose then their last album, so far

  5. It seemed to lose some energy around the middle section, but don’t we all? This is pretty good!

  6. Always a fan, I dig it.

  7. Great Album :)
