Stalley - Savage Journey To The American Dream

Everyone who’s written about the thoughtful Ohio rap introvert Stalley lately has mentioned that he’s a weird fit for Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group label, where he signed last year, even if he and his new label boss sport matching gigantic beards. And it’s true; the two make an odd fit. But Stalley’s new mixtape Savage Journey To The American Dream, the follow-up to last year’s Lincoln Way Nights: Intelligent Trunk Music, is something I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. Most of the production comes from Alabama G-Side collaborators and bleary experimenters Block Beattaz, which means Stalley really is getting to make the music he wants to make. Ross, Curren$y, Wale, Meek Mill, and the Neptunes’ Chad Hugo also contribute. Watch the video for the Ross collaboration “Party Heart” below, and download the mixtape here.

“Party Heart,” I should mention, also appears on Ross’s own excellent Rich Forever mixtape.

  3. If you like Stalley, you might like my blog, Rhymes and Reasons. It’s a series of interviews with hip-hop heads who discuss their lives and a few songs that matter to them. Pretty powerful stuff. Check’em out here:
