if you don’t understand the japanese street style….then of course you’re not going to enjoy this…thats what the art comes from ….i assure you…this is nothing to get worked up over….and if you havn’t noticed…if you happen to live in california…alot of girls and guys here are starting to take that style for them selves…some of them might not even really know where that style comes from. But it’s clear to see…Harajuku girls are inspiring alot of designers…also….japan was inspired by american and european designers and the 80′s style….they just rendered it…and…we’re taking it back…the rendered way…just you wait kids…japan is taking over slowly…
Well i have mixed opinions about the song, and theyre not that good………First i think that whole promoting-my-style parnapheralia is utter crap, and Gwen should try to concentrate lyrically (at least a lil bit more) on the deep stuff, like her relationship with Gavin Rossdale (which she smartly chronicled on ROS and Rock Steady), than the superficial ( e.g fashion, stardom, obsession with japanese). Universally speaking, this song is an insult to her cred for honest, insightful lyrics that maybe can’t be compared to the depth of Alanis but can definetely make a lot of ppl feel identified and relate to them.Cmon Gwen, we know that many of ur fans r gay couture-loving camps but u also have 2 focus on the other part of ur fans, the 1s that admire ur sincerity, and the way you give us insights on ur private life thru ur lyrics, and i think with this ”effort” ur not considering ”us”, or that part. And BTW, she does the same idiosincrasic thing that shes done on ND songs like Beauty Contest of meaning the same thing (or practically the same thing) on most lines of the song, in other words the lyrics just keep on revolving around the same fashion concept with any climatic changes or switches. Second of all, whats up with her obssesive fixation on the Japanese? Adressing their supposed super style scene (which she’s
in most of her new songs, and with all those tacky, campy lines in Japanese, English and French, is, believe me, VERY LAME. Plz Gwen, I hope thats the only song (along with WYWF) u ever talk about those damn, horribly overquoted Harajuku Girls. And last but not least, i have this odd feeling that yer solo effort is gonna withdraw many old and new fans of ND, and bring a lot of pop-lovers in the fan crowd, well i hope u dont mind losing all ur skanker/punker fanbase will ya?. Well is there anything good about the somewhat pathetic, very tacky unnecessarily overshallow (lyrically speaking), and excessively J-biased song? The beat, definetely. The producer of this song (was it Hooper or Austin???), managed to retain it’s ultracatchiness all through without any pitfalls or downs, being it’s kitschy instrumentation (some Color In Your Life-era Missing Persons on some spots), and pseudo-party tone what stands out. And honestly, the lyrics fit the beat just fine, u have 2 admit that, even though u hate the lyrics, u just can avoid mumbling the song under ur nose all day long. It’s catchy and perfect for a club, and maybe not as much as WYWF, but yes most of the time. In the depth of it all, every1 makes mistakes and artists do 2, and with this number Gwen has made a very bad mistake , but hopefully it wont damage the rest of her album. So well my dear ND fans, Gwen has decided 2 make dance music, so we’l all have 2 live with that whether we like it or not, and unfortunately its always gonna be catchy before its deep and profound
practically kinda ignorant about, according 2 LeeLee
If you guys wanna listen to deep lyrics than don’t waist your time on listening to gwen , I think the last song was pretty good, and her lyrics are fresh_ yeah shalow, but who cares ? I mean thats her style, there are LOTS of people that like that about her more Raves than Rants… I think?
Hi
I love the song, it took me a while but i do like it. Gwen has gone all *look at me look at me* who the hell does she think she is in this video, thinking she is all cool with al the outfits and ‘alice in wonderland theme’.
I love the song, it took me a while but i do like it. Gwen has gone all *look at me look at me* who the hell does she think she is in this video, thinking she is all cool with al the outfits and ‘alice in wonderland theme’. i saw the making of the video and she is so flaunting and using the Harajuku girls, it is sickening what she has turned out to.
I love you goth! please love me back, I have been sending flowers for the past week and you still say no! say yes!
Fuck off! it will never work!
First I would like to start off by saying that I love gwen stefani and No Doubt, and I agree that this song is not exactly the best she’s ever written. But Come on. It’s one song.
You havn’t heard any of the other new songs from her new CD, they could be way better than this. A lot of the time bands and artists release singles that you dont like, but the rest of the CD could be awesome. It’s just your taste in music I guess.
Personally, I love the new song “What You Waiting For?” and have been anxiously awaiting the 23rd for the release of the album.
One other thing to remember is that the CD is supposed to be a “dance record” and probably won’t have very strong lyrics. It’s very rare that a dance song does have strong lyrics.
Just take it for what it is and get over yourselves. It isn’t like you can make her stop doing what she is doing. So what if she wants to go solo? She is allowed to do what she wants. Go complain about Britney Spears or Hilary Duff or something. At least Gwen writes her own songs. While Britney spears gets other people to write her shit.
I’m sorry if you disagree with me but I have the right to like what I like, and well..
I Love Gwen Stefani.
dam! DENNIS i totally fuckin’ agree w/you.it may be a dance record man these people just don’t get it.
The one thing thats very true is that gwen writes her own lyrics and thats what i call a fuckin’ bad ass artist.OH and i also can’t wait for the 23rd of nov.
tic toc tic toc tic toc :*
i thought what you waiting for was ok but um.. NO.
love gwen!
I wish I would not have read the comments first….Big Mistake……I was set-up….I went into it thinking it was gonna be shit. Well at least I was not let down….Next time though I am gonna watch first, then read….THE ONLY reason I sat through the whole thing was to watch Gwen move….and move she does…”Old, tired” I don’t think so…She looks hot! And she does to have an ass…it is just a small, nice one…kinda like the one you fat girls wish you had…We can not all be as perfect as you.
gwen is the new madonna, bitches.
stop hating.
What are all you guys taking about? The song is cool. Its good to finally hear something different from all the garbage we are force-fed these day. Good job Gwen!!!
I didn’t actually see all the video but she has kinda gone obsessed with Japanese style and sound in this one. I think the songs okay, its pretty stupid though. Harajuku style rox I wish I was brave enough to wear it. To the person who mentioned Fruits, get the postcards if you havn’t got them, they’re brillie x x x
Oh my god just heard the lyrics how can she rip us off like that? I’m Japanese and I’m in fucking torment. I quote-
Just wait until you get your little mits on LAMB
Coz it’s super kawaii, that means super cute in Japanese…
No shit, sherlock! Everyone knows that! How can she do this to us? All other people are gonna dress like us now if they like the fashion. It’s not gonna be original for much longer, is it Gwen? Grrr I hate her now!
for fucks sake all u freaks are so pathetic whats ur problem its one song! Gwen is gr8 and u suck. lets see if u can sing better than gwen and see if u can write better songs! and if u dont like a song just dont listen to it dont make such a fuckin fuss about it does that make sense to u retards. GWEN RULES AND SO DOES UR MUSIC SO SHUT UR FUCKIN FACE. and sayuko if u are so naive to think that all other people are gonna dress likeU then u are stupidly mistaken. and what do u mean all other people are gonna dress like “us” u just said ur too scared to dress like that and be u so u can just shut ur hole.
UGH! what the heck was that! sorry i love gwen but ….ick….just no! wow the lyrics SUCKED!
I LOVE GWEN’S NEW SONG AND I THINK IT ROCKS!!!! SO FUCK ALL OF YOU WHO THINK IT SUCKS!!
i think this song is bizarre which is precisely why i like it…
you are eighteen year old girl who live in small city of japan
you heard me on the radio about one year ago and you wanted to to know all about me
and my hobbies
my favorite food and my birthday
You guys don’t know shit
please don’t hate on Gwen just cuz you guys dont got any taste in music doesnt mean the song sucks if anything you guys suck ass. i like the song i think its great. some of you guys say that you are “fans” of gwen but talk trash about her you guys dont know shit you guys are just posers!!!
Well, i love gwen. she still looks hott. the song was “EH” but hey, thats gwen trying different things and thats what she gets for being obsessed with japanese fashion. hahaha… its still cute.
oh my gosh you guys! will you listen to yourselves? havent you been paying attention. a l ot of you have been totally bitchin about the lyrics and stuff. didnt you hear? she said that she didnt want to pour her heart out like she did with No Doubt. also that this was just supposed to be a fun dance album, a guilty pleasure. c’mon guys. youve listened to it once, probably only half of it, and you just go right ahead and assume its horrible and everythings horrible, gwens horrible. NO! i admit, i listened to like 1/4 of it and i was like omg what IS this. but then i listened to it again and it wasnt that bad. and it just kept getting better. its actually really fun to sing and dance to, and THAT was the point. but hey, i know youre all entitled to your own opinion. but come on, lets be a little bit more open/excepting.
hey all yall who think Gwens new song sucks!!!!
She is one of THE MOST original song writers/designers there is today. (besides me ofcours;) you are all so jelouse of her originaloity and you couldn’t write a song half as cool as that!!! Also i here some of you dising her line of hand bags!!! I happen to have one and they are almost 100% leather free and really cool and they dont rip. Also yall dont no the real gwen who totally created her self. this music video shows how outgoing and creative she is and how cool harajuku girls dress!!!
I am one of the biggest ND/ gwen fans ( i have created a couple folders devoted to them, all my peers think i am crazy!!!) who alot about this rokin girl so SHUTUP all who dis it!!!!!
i loved this video. i loved that it shows another aspect of gwen’s creativity, personality, and artistry. it doesn’t all have to be one style or always deep lyrics. it’s just fun and there aint nuthin wrong with that.
and she is always very hot. i don’t care if she wears extensions or hot pants or long pants or flat shoes or stripper pumps. she’s just hot. she has the moves, she has a unique voice, she has the stage presence.
some of the people who posted talk about “fashion” as a bad topic for a song. i think bowie sang it best….There’s a brand new dance
But I don’t know it’s name
That people from bad homes
Do again and again
It’s big and it’s bland
Full tension and fear
They do it over there
But we don’t do it here
Fashion – Turn to the left
Fashion – Turn to the right
We are the goon squad
And we’re coming to town
Beep-beep – Beep-beep
ok, so his lyrics have a little more substance. i still like gwen’s song
well, i appreciate that japanese street fashion (which i am a huge fan of) is making an appearance in mainstream america ^_^;;; but that song’s lyrics were a bit…lame. I mean, when I first read them they seemed kinda cool. I thought “oh wow. a song about Harajuku” (which she pronounced wrong…) and the line “it’s super kawaii! that means ‘super cute’ in japanese” jsut made me groan XD it’s a nice effort, though. and i completely understand her current obsession. the ammount of brand/name dropping is almost comical, though ^_^ i’ll have to hear it a few more times before i make a final decision, but for now, i don’t think i like it as much as i hoped i would ;_; oh well. thanks for trying, gwen!!
Oh my, Gwen I think it was great. The expression was not the norm, but that is what I enjoyed. You had fun doing this and well as an artist not everyone is going to agree. New crisp sound made me forget I was at work and just wanted to go outside and play in fantasy land. Definite a must have.
Until the night is young,
Lady Jez
JB – In no way is Gwen the new Madonna. Madonna can be compelling. Ever heard Gwen in an interview? Her voice is annoying and she says pretty idiotic things. Madonna does compelling videos, she’s got her thought-provoking moments, and she can shock the masses. Gwen has great style, but no substance. She’s superficial, even when she whines about her love problems. I’ve tried to like her, but her No Doubt lyrics sound like they were written by a lovesick 13-year-old girl. Nothing about Gwen or No Doubt is pleasantly controversial.
By the way, I’ll bet if Britney had come out with a song where she squeals, “That means super cute in Japanese!” you Gwen-lovers would crap all over it. Or if she came out a year ago proclaiming to be a “super-hot FEE-male?” (God knows she isn’t now…)
I respect anyone who puts themself out there and has courage to keep growing and expressing themselves in different ways . . everything must grow or die – that’s life – props to her for trying something new – people are fickle and hard to please . . it’s so easy to bash someone and try to chop them down – people who follow their heart, and make something of themselves in life and are congruent in who they are (meaning their inside matches their outside . . they do the damn thing – they don’t just sit around talking about it . . etc) are rewarded with lifes best – blessings/opportunities/experiences.
Conversely, all the negative, overly critical and judgement-based people don’t even come close to reaching their own potential – their so busy putting energy towards the so called “offensive” things others are doing to them . . such as a singer releasing material that is new and different. Oooooh, so offensive.
Please!
Personally, I’m feelin’ her . . and to hear ya’ll bash her – makes her like and respect her even more, baby!
the first time i heard it, it freaked me out. but then it just grew on me and I <3 it!! it’s so unique, no matter how many times that is said it remains true. don’t you get bored of the same old crap they overplay on radios? of course they might end up overplaying her songs too, but, at least it won’t sound like all the other songs being overplayed with it. even if this album totally flopped, she’d still be richer and prettier than everyone on here. and she has a great voice. Go Gwen!!!
Bah. I’d still do her
rock on gwen stefani the best
freewebscomkjonno91
there is . before the com and a / before the kjonno91
I love the song as i said earlier. but she is going a bit ott with the harajuku girls, have you seen her in her interviews? she has them all like sedated in the background its fuckin creepy. she is like the child capturer for harajuku girls “come with me and you will get to be in my video”
Hi again goth! I love you please say you do o! i totally agree with the harajuku girls thing. Its sick man
…will you go out with me?
it wasn’t that bad.
there’s nothing wrong with her clothes or shoes!!
WYWF? is so much better than this one, but u guys were way too harsh.
jakub you’re my sedated harajuku girl.
She’s alienating herself… but that’s not always a bad thing. Maybe she’s jaded the American thing. Anyway, Japs would love her now and I think they are her target. Japs have money to buy her LAMB stuff.
As a dedicated old school No Doubter, I strongly disagree with those of you who keep dissing Gwen for doing this album. REMEMBER KIDS: IT’S JUST A SIDE PROJECT! And more importantly – IT’S A “DANCE” RECORD. It’s not No Doubt, nor a No Doubt project. She is NOT going solo and No Doubt has NOT broken up. Both Adrian and Tom have side projects (aka OTHER BANDS) and they are not getting bashed, so why is everyone picking on Gwen? Who cares if the lyrics are not “deep” and emotionally insightful. Let the girl have fun with it! IT’S A DANCE RECORD!!!
Gwen, not only are you fabulous, you look FANTASTIC! Just don’t get too skinny like pre-Tragic Kingdom days. Oh, and please dump Gavin. You and Tony were meant to have babies:)
I like the harajuku girls I think they are cool
**I really hope gwen doesnt read this shit, there is some pretty mean hating going on here. you put her on a pedestal but you are just dying to smack her off and claw her to death.

anyway, i agree that the lyrics are really cheesy. but you know, gwen isnt trying to rip off japanese fashion or degrade japanese people. come on. she really loves japan. and so do i. and i love gwen. she is a hot mama. i also love japanese street fashion, esp. gothic lolita, and i love alice in wonderland. the garters and hot pants are pretty un-harajuku, try racequeen. but so what.
as for ‘using’ those japanese girls, i dont get it, they are probably being paid very well and dont mind dancing around with gwen at all. the video was a little wierd, tho, i kept thinking she was gonna start spanking them. that would have made it ALOT better **
<3
i like the song even though it didnt make sense. it was like alice in japan wonderland for those who dont. the song was good even though the lyrics didnt make sense and didnt rhyme so i gotta give gwen her props even though she coulda dun better
I think this was the best song written about fashion to date!!! fashion is agreat thing to sing about, and people who think its not deep enough, she probably didnt want to be deep in this song. Also she said it was to be a dance album stupid!!! also i would like to agree w/ everything that Buttercup said she is right!!!!
THE POWER OF GWEN!!!!!!!
This is probably the worst song I’ve heard in my life. I’ve never been a big No Doubt fan, but I admired Gwen’s individuality and originality… and this is just a slap on the face of uniqueness. And also, I happen to be an EGL and I don’t find this flattering at all.
Trully bad.
-V-
I love Gwen. But that was fucking horrible. Disgusting actually. If you’re bulimic, or want to be, watch this piece of shit.
And get over the Japanese, woman. I pray to God that when her ambum comes out, every fucking song doesn’t make reference to Harajuku. What a waste of those producers.
well i liked the song… thought it was a bit tasteful… atleast shes trying something new! i love gwen stefani and no doubt! kick ass! rawr.
I loved the song along with “What you waiting for” it’s something new and way better than Britney Spears or the other new stuff coming out. I think that I might do the Harajuku style.
oh and by the way Japanese girls aren’t Bulimic they just eat healthy and do alot of walking as for Gwen I don’t think that she would write anything that would influnce girls to starve themselves or to have image-problems.
Gwen is fabulous, and always will be. You guys abviously don’t appreciate high quality music and fashion. And there is no need to diss the harajuku girls cuz they are almost as fabulous as Gwen. If you all were rael fans like you say you are you wouldn’t turn around and hate her for one song that you just aren’t cultured enought to appreciate.
Shit, you people are nasty. If you were fans you wouldn’t be so cruel, especially knowing she might read this. I can’t believe how uptight most of you people are. She’s havig fun, so let her be! She can’t please everyone all the time and for fuck’s sake, she’s human! Stop being so fucking mean! If you don’t get the theme or don’t like the theme, then so be it. But lots of us do get it and like it. And I’m not a teeny-bopper fan, I’m 28 years old and have been a No Doubt fan for almost 10 years. I’m not an uptight asshole, however.
Gwen, keep doing what you love and don’t let closed-minded morons bring you down.
Yeah okay Wytewitch I kinda contradicted myself there…what I meant was I wouldn’t have the balls to wear Harajuku fashion newhere outside Harajuku/ Shibuya. I wouldn’t wear the whole look in London, maybe just knee stockings and pleated skirt. Oh and the person who mentioned Gothic Lolita, if you got the balls to wear that out in America then go you. And I’m sorry, but you are totally in your rights to cuss someone if their song sux. Just because its Gwen Stefani makes no difference- its still fucking tragic. I’ve actually listened to the song now, and yes, she pronounced Harajuku WRONG. I thought one of her Japanese dancers coulda taught her how to say that maybe? Oh and KD or KC or whatever, I can’t be arsed to scroll back 2 see what your name was, that’s what I mean by saying other people will copy the fashion. I never said that was bad, because Japanese people rip off foreign fashion (particularly English punk) and incorperate it in their own style. It just wont be very original any more. I’m only 15 so please don’t cuss too bad after this post everyone x x x
I just feel sad for gwen…too skinny..trying too hard…not too smart…actually really LOST IT…..I am sooooooo embarassed by her right now.
“I am sooooooo embarassed” for all of you. She puts out a track that has lyrics that actually say something instead of being a girl-power pop-steady track about nothing, and you all freak out.
The joke is on you guys!!
what is wrong with you people?
do you hate your lives or something?
gwen is putting out fun dance music and you losers, who dont appreciate it, manage to find your way on here just to dis her?
if you dont like it, then dont listen to it. i appreciate and love any music that is made solely to lift someones spirit and make them want to dance. Gwen is a goddess.
Hi there,
I’m pretty confused. That AOL version of Gwen Stefani’s song was titled “Harajuku girls.” I thought the single is called ‘What you waiting for?’
I know it’s titled that in Australia beacuse i bought the single.
The live version i just watched on AOL is not fantastic. I really didn’t like the whole squeaky singing, (i can sing it better live) but the recorded version on the single is great.
I HATE HATE HATE remixes and dubs that ANY artist places on their singles now just to fill up space or whatever. PLEASE stop doing it!!
I think her video is so original. Her lyrics are different than the one’s she usually writes but at least she has the balls to try something new like she always has. When No Doubt came out, it was during the Grudge time with the whole Nirvana thing and they were all ska and bright and happy. Later she’s been winning almost every award that she’s been nominated in on MTV’s VMA’s. You go Gwen!
I think that Gwens new music solo career sounds like a rehashing of the 80′s band, the missing persons. Personally, I like it. I wonder if she was insired by them? Maybe it was a collaborated effort?
I dare you to listen to any song from the band the Missing Persons and tell me if that doesn’t sound exactly like Gwen Stephanis new song, What you waiting for. She even does the lead singers trademark squeeky vocals!! She also looks a lot like the lead singer, and dresses like her too.
She’s not being original here.
I just found out her age. Born in 1969!! Wow, I had no idea she was that old.
O.k then, that explains it. 1980′s re-hash.
She is totally unravelling. I *blush* for her.
w0w Gwen ..You look Sooo fabulous ..Your voice is so unique..your fashion Sense astounds me ..you are truly inspirational my dear, and as for the Westwood Theme..there arent many other designers apart from Galliano worthy of creating for you.
Its so sad that these fools have no Vision, Talent or Guts to ever be as fantastic as you !
An absolute princess !!
Okay well first, the jokes not on any one, whether they like Gwen Stefani or not to the person who made that comment. In my opinion its tragic and really bad, and that does not mean I hate my life, to the person who made that comment. And I don’t feel embarrased at all at cussing Gwen Stefani, to the person who made that comment.Yeah, its a song, whatever. Either you like it or you don’t. I happen not to because I’m Japper and I think its funny, especially when she pronounces stuff wrong (the most important word in the song, Harajuku) If I took the song seriously I would honestly think she was taking the piss. Oh and to the person who asked, bishoujo means beautiful. Someone should put sugar in her dancers gas tanks coz they are crazy. Gwen Stefani wa baka temee desu x x x
I really love gothic lolita fashion, and I really like Gwen, but I don’t like this song. The video is alot of fun to watch though. Gwen’s outfit is awesome and the dancing girls are cute. I want to see more of her like this…just set to better music.

the lyrics? read past the ‘stupid ho’. it’s all about not giving up just ’cause you’re getting on in age.
as for the person who mentioned the lyrics don’t rhyme.. not every song rhymes and this aint rap…thank god.
the fashion? well can’t comment ’cause i haven’t seen the clip….fugg aol.
Musically, the song isnt toooo bad, its a little more ‘entropic’ then the standard pop fair, and that makes it better then other pop songs.
The lyrics werent great though, and the little line about kawai needs to be removed O.o that made me cringe >.<
Damn, not her best…..but those girls got to rub her…..that’s cool. Gwen is a goddess, she deserves to be rubbed. And to all the stupid hoes who are telling her to go away, you can suck it, because Gwen is the best and I’d rather have her singing than Avril Lavigne…..anyday. So fuck you, Gwen is my God.
Ok i just saw the Harajuku Girls aol session vid.
I think the songs pretty cool. I love the vocals.
I think it’ll be a great dance album. I think that’s what most people are annoyed at. They’re expecting something different. From the start Gwen said that the album would be ‘dance’. Not ska, not reggae, not like No Doubt stuff.
I don’t like dance usually, but being completely objective here, I DO like the two songs i’ve heard so far on this album (i.e WYWF and HG)
And yes. I WILL buy the album when it comes out.
I loved it! Ive heard most of her other songs off the album n trust me they r so gr8 n something and so unique, espeically rich girls n hollaback girl. Her image is gr8, the harajuka girls r gr8, the whole image works rite now, along with brilliant tracks. All those h8ers, just w8 for her to explode!
Wow, I thought what are you waiting for was bad, this harajuku track is just horrid. I can understand Gwen’s attraction to Japanese culture and style. Im a 29 year old guy and I swore off dating anything BUT Japanese chicks like 11 years ago because they are so much better than typical american chicks in so many ways. However, Gwen just seems like a lame biter making these songs about Japanese culture and fashion. She doesn’t pronounce Japanese correctly, seems like she is being very superficial in her interest. My only hope is people who are just now learning about japan will all by Utada Hikaru’s new english album because they hopped on the japanese bandwagon too. It’s nice to see Japan up in the mainstream american media though, so many people said I was wierd for so long and now maybe americans will catch on…finally…but actually I don’t want them to. Trends in Japan move so fast, by the time american chicks try to dress like harajuku girls, there will be a new style in japan. Americans will never keep up because they don’t really care about Japan. They just want the cool cell phones and anime. I think Gwen had a cool style before and she looks cute now as well. I like ND’s music much better, this current Gwen stuff is wack. My only hope is, if Japanese fashion and culture become a new american trend, that real Japanese artists catch on and blow up in the states. Like Ayumi Hamasaki, Hitomi, Boa, Utada Hikaru, and Miki…ok I’m going to watch what Jennifer Lopez and Richard Geer did in their remake of a good Japanese movie, “Shall we Dance”…next up, Check out the Original “GRUDGE” called Juon, in Japanese. There is a part 1,2 and 3 by the way. Then take a vacation to Japan and experience Japanese culture for yourself. Girls, don’t let your boyfriends go alone, they might never come back to you.
I love this song, gwen it’s abslotly brilliant u have an amazing voice! loadz love hannah.xxxx.
I thought Harajuke Girl is a fun song! Yeah it’s an “advertisement” but it’s fun! ^____~x
can I just say a few things to you TREX. I’m a Japanese girl and I would never go out with you if you like Ayumi Hamasaki…urgh. Plus the only Ju-On that is in any way decent is the original TV version with Chiaki Kuriyama in it. Harajuku fashion will never ‘move on’. It will always be classed as Harajuku fashion as long as people wear crazy new stuff in Harujuku. Like there are always Gothic Lolitas in Yoyogi Park (sorry but I think that’s a step too far personally). Like Lee-Lee said, most people in Japan think its funny. Was cool with all the Fruits stuff anyway. I agree with you that Gwens atempt is lame, mostly coz she pronounces everything wrong. HaraJUku, dur. God I would cuss her if I had my katakana keyboard. But its nice she takes an intrest in Japanese culture I guess. Its sweet of her. Oh and Sayuko you go girl. I can’t type very good ramanization myself but yeah, Gwen is one crazy bitch like you said. Btw I love your name I wish I was called Sayu then I could call my kid Sayuko lol.
I’m a big Gwen fan and I’m a little mixed on this song. I don’t like the advertisement stuff, but then again all hip-hop artists do it.
Case in point the new Snoop/Pharell video
“See these Ice Cubes, See these Ice Creams”(Ice Creams being Pharell’s new shoe line with Reebok) so I don’t take away her right to sell her shit in her music.
Also the people expecting deep lyrics in a POP album, that she stated was a POP album that she wanted to be fun and POP… you need to lighten up just a tad. Searching for meaning here is like Searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie.(hee hee props to the Clueless fans)
Let her do her thing, she was inspired by the Japanese culture, she likes Harajuku, She likes big shoes…and this is her solo POP album for the last time.
She’ll get back to singing about how depressing life is a few months for you sad people that can only get down to music for slitting one’s wrists.
Personally I just heard the album and I enjoyed it. It was a fun romp. True this is actually the weakest song on the album, but don’t judge the entire album on one not so great song.
It is now on the The Leak at MTV if you want to form a more balanced opinion. If you still don’t like it…ok that’s your perogative. And if your mind is changed well at least you didn’t bitch and gripe over one song about bouncy Tokyo chicks.
I don’t often use web lingo, but… WTF?!?!!?
I want Tom, Tony & Adrian back!
HAVE FUN PEOPLE
” F U N ”
REMEMBER THAT?
I think the song is good, its not her best, but its still good.
Alright, so the song wasn’t the best. But that doesn’t give you slugs the right to trash gwen to a bloody pulp. Leave her alone. She has worked hard to get where she is with the band and has managed to become a very successful and popular woman. I don’t blame her at all for wanting to try something new on her own. It’s her choice. And maybe the lyrics weren’t the best, but if it’s what Gwen wants to write about– then let her do it in peace! You must remember that none of you were forced or even asked to watch this video so stick to your lame ass Yanni and get over it. So… plain and simply: if you don’t like it, don’t watch it!!!!!
GO BOTHER SOMEONE ELSE.
Gwen will always be a legend.
I don’t get the outrage expresseed by the likes of Nicole. Nic and friends, please try to understand this:
We were invited by Stereogum to comment on the video. We’re commenting on the video. Some like it, some don’t. Seeing as Gwen Stefani released the video publicly, we have every right to comment on it publicly. Deal with it. If you want a place where no one will give an negative opinion about Gwen’s latest video, go to her fansite or something.
You act like a negative comment about a multi-millionaire stranger’s newest video is some sort of personal affront to you. Odd.
“you sad people that can only get down to music for slitting one’s wrists.”
This sad person can only get down to music that doesn’t suck ass. “Harajuki Girls” happens to suck ass. I love “What You Waiting For.”
I was surprised at her new video, especially that she went solo. I like the whole Japanese-theme but the lyrics are sort of screwed up. I still don’t think it sucks ass, though.
Hey Normal…I wasn’t talk specifics with Harajuku. I was talking about people who don’t like the album or music in general cause it is too “Happy”.
The song is ok… Definately not one of my favorites. I don’t understand the obsession with the Japanese girls. I could see for maybe one song, but (hopefully) not all. I do like her voice though and I found alot of her songs that werent on the radio…awesome. I think thats the main reason I listen to her… Shes unique, not always on the radio(all her songs played over and over again when released), and she writes her own stuff..deep or not. When you write something, its nice to have fun and not always be so serious. She’s basically picking things and writing about them and making them into songs. Thats not a bad thing…. I mean how many songs about love and relationships can you have? And I must say I liked her first solo single and I also liked “It’s my Life” ALOT better then Britney Spears remake of Bobby Brown’s song. At least she took a song that was kinda crappy in the 80′s and made it sound good. I’m definately gonna buy this cd.
Well in Gwen’s defense i must say…MAD PROPS!!! a true 80′s fan that i am ,i can see and appreciate the rick james influences here..remanecent of “super freak” and the rebirth of obsessions with asian’s in the 1980′s i.e. david bowie’s “china girl” and the vapor’s “turning japanese”.this song is fun and to be taken lightly…it’s feel good music and gwen has not “gone superficial” and she does not have delusions of granduer..rather..she is making fun of it ,,and having fun at the same time.the beat is catchy and different then what weve been hearing the past few years (horrible music like britney spears, hillary duff simple plan, etc) pop was good in the 80′s but got sucky as soon as new kids on the block emerged..bring back the good pop from the 1980′s that had REAL punk influences and synths..AWESOME!
i nearly cried when i first heard this song, i thought it was so terrible. now i’m streaming the album and it’s surprisingly good without the video. it just feels like early 80s funk mixed with a bit of charlie’s angels. it’s totally growing on me…
Awww Gwen turing into a little loli.
What do you do when your idol releases a solo album and it sucks?
k.. so i LOVE gwen. i liked her new single.. but i just downloaded some of her new stuff and i wanna kill myslef. i also made a shirt that goes (front) gwen……… (back) what the fuck are you doing?
Gwen’s latest songs are so COOL! you guys don’t know shit. Her latest song What are you waiting for is so cool and her video is just rock on. She has her style man. She doesn’t need to be like the other American singers! I just love her Harujuku Girls its so different.
Aww. This was so dissapointing. It’s Gwen’s key vocals over bad Lionel Ritchie melodies. =(
yes. what are you waiting for is going to be a super hammerin dance hit. and i don’t think Gwen gives a rats ass if pink faced, round eye’s quite get this album because it will make her very wealthy in Japan and the far east.
this song won’t be a hit in the states, but it probably contributes to the flavor of the album in general.
geeeeeeeeeeez ………she looks really fun..but Oh goddd I am sooooo embarrrrrrasssssed….it is reallllly bad…that stinks for her….its actually a mess…..she should just make posters…not music…sorry gwen
Yeah really..what the hell do you do when your fashion icon/idol goes solo…over confidently…and really comes off like a total idiot with no talent…..I turned sooo red when I first saw the new video..it makes me think she is dumb or just not too smart….it sucks….she is still gorgeous though. No Doubt should get back together..fast!
first off..totally not eating, had to have given up food, never this skinny, makes her look older, trying too hard…shit shit shit lyrics, not bright maybe?, looks good but not enough to make this ok, repeats stuff too much, sings awful live, and dances really shitty, and this is supposed to be a dance record?, shouldn’t you dance good if you make a record for dancing? I actually do hope she reads all this stuff you all wrote, or her “people” do, she needs to get grounded, i don’t give a rats ass, she can buy anything in teh world, but I guess you can’t buy talent…sux shit

I have read a couple of times that Gwen pronounces “Harajuku” incorrectly.
Can someone (preferrably Japanese) type HOW you would pronounce it correctly?
Thanks
*Headline on a japenese paper*
GWEN STEFANI BANNED FOR STALKING HARUJUKU GIRLS!
lol..im a big gwen fan…but…god gwen…why?? why?? I just listened to her cd on mtv.com and its just not what i expected. I mean she co-wrote almost all of no doubts songs and then she puts out this crap? Goddamnit!!!
This song is not the best work from her new cd. I heard the whole thing on mtv.com, some is downright terrible but some is great. I have to give Gwen mad props for being orginal, she manages to fuse different cultural and musical styles together. At least none of her songs have lil john or nelly on them.
Ok Yvonne, just for you. No, Im not japanese but I speak Japanese and I spent over 4 years in Japan and I go back at least once a year. Ok, so Harajuku is pronounced HA (as in HA HA) RA (sounds more like LA with your tongue on the roof of your mouth) JU (as in JEW) KU (as in KU KU for coco puffs). Japanese is pronounced pretty much as it is written, the language is phonetic. Not HAIR A JUKU. Not KA RA TEA. Not Carry O key (karaoke) Ke is not Key, KI is Key…Ok Japanese lesson over…
