In our continuing Twilight coverage…. For those of you who thought maybe Owl City’s Postal Service plagiarism would inspire Ben Gibbard to jam with Jimmy Tamborello on some post-Give Up material forgot he had a vampire movie to promote: The Death Cab singer offered a solo take on The Twilight Saga: New Moon rager “Meet Me On The Equinox” for KROQ. He’s in town to perform at the Hollywood & Highland Hot Topic as part of The Twilight Saga: New Moon Talent Tour. Everything ends.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack is out via Atlantic at Hot Topic stores nationwide. Tonight (11/6) DCFC will be joined by Band of Skulls, Sea Wolf, and Anya Marina at the aforementioned Hollywood HT. You laugh. Slayer was at the same Hot Topic on Tuesday to promote their excellent 11th studio album World Painted Blood. You cry.

Alternative Talk: Music vital, but words hold meaning
Although I find myself occasionally disenchanted by his musical efforts, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service rarely disappoints lyrically. A prime example of his eloquence can be found in “Title Track,” which opens ...
Death Cab for Cutie will possess hearts live in Manila
Such is the case with Death Cab for Cutie, those kings of pain from Bellingham ... In some odd way, singer-songwriter Ben Gibbard, bassist Nick Harmer, guitarist Chris Walla, and drummer Jason McGerr are lending their credibility to these ventures ...

What’s with the reverb? That doesn’t sound natural…

    • what do you mean? the vocal reverb or the guitar reverb? either way: he’s in a small radio studio room, so there’s not much natural reverb to be had, thus the artificial hardware/plug-in reverb that you hear. you’ll notice his guitar is plugged into one of those marshall mS2 mini guitar amps, which i’m assuming is providing the reverb aspect for the guitar. so it “doesn’t sound natural” because it… isn’t natural. let me know if i completely misunderstood you’re comment; i don’t want to sound like an jerk or something.

He’s done tons of in studio acoustic performances without the shitty effects on his voice/guitar. Ben just gets lamer and lamer every year.

      ps.

“let me know if i completely misunderstood you’re comment” it’s your, not you’re.

  2. Sounds and looks like Neil Young these days. I dig it.

i don’t think that is reverb…its kinda awesome really, using the small marshall amp to get the reverby/distortion and recording the natural acoustic…however his most genius move is marrying Zooey…

oh…and “we have the facts and we’re voting yes”

The reverb sounds amazing, who cares if it’s an emulation? Anyways, it’s the only way it could be done under such circumstances.
