“[Moz] was constantly saying horrible things about The Cure,” Smith tells Entertainment Weekly. “In the end, I kind of snapped and started retaliating. And it turned into some kind of petty feud. I’ve never liked anything he’s done musically, but I don’t have any kind of strong feelings of animosity towards him as a person because I’ve never met him.”
Let the Smith/Smiths flame war begin!
%s1 / %s2

I refuse to take sides.
sure, meat is murder, but i smell BEEF!
no wonder moz was holding the gat on his album cover…
So I guess a collaboration is out of the question. Damn.
>So I guess a collaboration is out of the question. Damn.
After hearing the result of that Moz/Siouxsie collab, I’m thinking that’s a good thing.
the new Morrissey is unlistenable. It made my ears bleed it was so bad.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
How will I eevr deal with my two favorite musicians duking it out!!
GO FOR THE HAIR!!
“I’ve never liked anything he’s done musically”
BLATANT LIE
Seriously. How could anyone NOT love Morrissey? How could anyone NOT love Robert Smith?
*cries*
I can’t take it!
Allll we are sayyyyinggggg is giiivee peace a chaaaaanceeee….
Oh. Right.
Robert Smith wins. He was on South Park. HELLO!
Is that the reason for The Cures are not playing in gastongury this year??
Lol,Levinhurst should also be there hehehe…
the cure kick everyones arse trust me they pass
The Cure hasn’t put anything good out since Disintegration. Not that Morrissey’s solo stuff is that great, either. But the Smiths were a superior band to the Cure in the end.
oh what? jess.. Noone’s got anything on The Cure. The Smiths aren’t even up there…
Robert Smith would kill Morrisey with his mind.
The Cure are much better than either Morrissey or The Smiths collectively. And Robert Smith comes across as much, much less of a tosser than Morrissey.
family boy – parenting articles.
the smiths are wicked boring.
the Cure have made me cry countless times. they ahve pitched some perfect songs. yea nothings perfect, but they have songs from every part of their career that are…so i guess that makes them the winner. the only smiths song i like is how soon is now and the only reason i liek it is because it reminded me oft he Cure when i heard it.
A Real Reason for Morrissey and Robert Smith to Quarrel
I like both because they and I share what the latter calls an overriding sense of the futility of existence, even though these two legends hate each other with what they latter calls a ?plastic passion.? Having loved many girls but never been involved with them, I probably have more in common with the former who says he has forsworn love and will die a bachelor. But I cannot afford to follow his example because I am not nearly as talented as him or the latter. Since I cannot sing or play music like the former and latter, I would prefer at least to be happily married like the latter, even if that means following his example staying childless because of our shared disposition.
er…..shane jacobus !! ur a moron!! repetition with latter way too often …….seriously i count 5 uses of the word latter!!
:O
the cure appeals to frat boys and mall goths.
the smiths are one of the greatest bands ever
As much as I like The Smiths, NO, they will never be superior to The Cure. Their stuff after Disintegration may not be the best, ok, but the best of The Smiths doesn’t even come close to the best of The Cure.
The Cure wins by a land-slide…
I mean, Gothic Rock vs. Pussy Vegetarian Music?
Also, might I add… Robert SMITH… The SMITHs…
[Maybe that's why Morrissey's pissed? ;D]
omg i dont know how u can pick that crack head robert instead of morrissey. do u know that he is THE LEGEND please stop hating on him you all know that morrissey is the best but u are denying it ha lozerz!!!!! HATERS !!!
Robert smith is,by all accounts, a likeable guy,but he is no morrissey.Likeability is not the issue here.
Anyone who sits through a song like ‘last night I dreampt that somebody loved me’ and does not get a lump in their throat has a heart made of pure stone
Grow up all of you. these guys have both committed and outdone themselves musically. The Smiths were a post-punk British rock band. The Cure was a psychedelic pop rock band. Take the avant garde out of The Legendary Pink Dots and throw in Baudelaire and some bubble gum and you have The Cure. Morrissey gives ode to many fantastic historical figures, and he also gives a voice to dejected queers. He is an icon for the hipster scene, so it goes. Everyone serves their purpose. Music comes from a spiritual place, it’s too bad that two dynamic musicians would ever engage in such a childish feud in the first place.
no smiths album nor morrissey solo album comes close to the genius that is disintegration, in fact, not all of them combined can hold a candle to it. morrissey is a self righteous, pretentious maggot who has used being a closet cocksucker as a publicity machine for far too long.
comparing the smiths and the cure is like comparing the beatles with rihanna.
I love both of these bands intensely. They both speak to me on different levels. The Cure hits that romance deep inside of man…the words are beautiful…and the music touches the heart where lyrics don’t suffice. Morrissey and The Smiths go even deeper for me. They address the whole spectrum of mans emotions. I think a lot of people would prefer Robert’s lyrics to Morrissey’s because of the romance in lyrics. Morrissey approaches life humerously, even though he sees the bleak sides and pointlessness of it all. They both share the viewpoint in the futility of living.
The proof is also in the pudding. Refer to the latest standings of the most popular bands of all time and you’ll see The Smiths at the top or near it on every list. Compare The Cure’s chart position. Clearly, The Smiths have been the MOST influential of the 2.
Ages ago I would have totally jumped on good ole Robert’s side and said Morrissey sucked, but time has passed and I have come to adore the Smiths and Morrissey. The Cure will always be my favorite by far (hello! Disintegration), but acting as if what the Smiths did wasn’t significant because I love the Cure is just childish and stupid. Both artists are great musicians, hating one or the other because they dislike each other is dumb. I think you guys need to set your priorities straight. Robert Smith and Morrissey both speak to dejected people who feel like they’re at the end of their rope. The insight the deeper, painful side of us. Robert appeals more to the hopeless romantic and Morrissey to the misfit queers. Both of which I am… <3s to both.
In a time where Fall Out Boy is topping all the charts I think we should be grateful that artists like them still inspire. It shows there is still hope for the world.
Long live rock ‘n roll.
morrissey is the legend to me i dont listen too the cure really but the cure has done great n’all, but i dont see why people are taking sides really, they personally dont like each other for reasons that we dont know, and i’v heard somewhere that they are alright with each other in a way now.
The thing is that Robert and Morrissey are both on good terms with each other now as I think they’ve done a lot of growing up. In choosing which band I prefer it would be the Cure because Fascination Street or Disintegration have to be the best songs to grace the alternative music scene ever. I enjoy the Smiths as well and I’m also a vegetarian but the Cure are amazing.
Actually Robert Smith too is vegitarian, (since the 80′s?). Anyway Robert Smith is a genius and so much more talented (and have a much more loveable personality) then Morrissey. I used to like Morrissey before I discovered Robert and The Cure.
i hate morrisey…is said that he loves peace and than he begin this shit….Robert is so cool i love him.
If you think Morrissey’s a bad singer you should hear him play piano!
Hahahahaha, you’re awesome.
I cant pick between the two…they are both amazing.
This is stupid, it’s become like some kind of rap feud.
It’s like Nas verses Jay-Z. Jay-Z achieved a shit load of commercial success and some critical acclaim while Nas who had only limited commercial success was by far the better lyricist and artist and endured more critical acclaim. In a way, Robert Smith is Jay-z and Morrissey is like Nas. But it’s bloody pathetic, this is a stupid debate.
No matter how much you like Robert Smith and hate Morrissey or how much you love Morrissey and hate Robert Smith, The Smiths and Morrissey are a much more influential group than The Cure and always have been. That is a fact, not just opinion. One way of proving that The Smiths are better than The Cure is that, with all the commercial and critical success that The Cure and R.E.M have achieved, The Smiths always, on every online poll and debate seem to come out on top or in a very respectable position. Infact, The Smiths win almost every debate they are in when it comes to The Smiths vs “so and so”. The Cure just don’t cut it. Morrissey is by far the better lyricist and anyone who thinks that he is a spokesperson for dejected queers needs to shut the fuck up because they are obviously as shallow as Mt. Everest.
The Cure were never voted more influential than The Beatles by NME, The Cure’s lyricist was never chosen as one of the eight greatest lyricists of all time, The Cure’s songwriter was never voted the fifth greatest of all time by Rolling Stone magazine, The Cure don’t have 4 albums on the RS500, The Cure didn’t influence the entire brit-pop scene, nor did they influence heave metal artists such as Phil Anselmo of Pantera and System of a Down, nor did they influence hip-hop arists such as Andre 3000 from Outkast.
Who has achieved all of those things….The Smiths. Fact not opinion.
Alison, you are chatting bare amounts of fluff love.
What’s all the fuss about Disintegration… yeah its a great album but its NOTHING compared to The Queen is Dead… NOTHINNNGGGG…… Hail to Mozza
Have you ever Robert Smiths hair???? He wins the fight just for that!
“”i hate morrisey…is said that he loves peace and than he begin this shit….Robert is so cool i love him”"
Morrisey is soooooo much better, besides, he doesnt look like a fat old lady…… hahahahahaha!!!!
I’m not really sure there’s a point to this feuding, picking and choosing as nothing’s going to come of it, but personally I think the Cure are way up and above the Smiths. Look at the breadth of their songs. When they wanted to, they got instant pop hits (think ‘Friday I’m In Love’). When they put their minds on it, they could capture the darkness inherent in humanity and it’s world in a way no other, not the Smiths and certainly not the ‘scream my throat out’ metal crap you get today, can do today. The song ‘Pornography’ was six and a half minutes of listening to the mind of a psychopath. Who else has done that?
The Cure and the Smiths are both fantastic artists but… The Cure is a far easier band too appreciate. Morrissey is not for everyone and takes time to understand because his lyrics are working on a much deeper level both emotionally and intellectually. To all the cure fans bad mouthing the Smiths on here i hope your forced to eat your words someday when you realise that while the cure are exceptional, the smith are quit simply one of the greatest bands popular music has ever seen.
