One of the most successful groups in the history of the music business is calling it quits after nearly a decade together. Scott Stapp is now working with Canadian rockers The Tea Party on his solo debut.

    There IS a god!

  2. thank jesus!!

  3. Phish… now this? But… where will the bad, contrived, pompous music come from?

  4. “where will the bad, contrived, pompous music come from?”

Did you not read it? Effing Stapp is working with the effing Tea Party! At this point, I’d like to renounce my affiliation with recorded music. It’s over.

  5. what a tragic day this is…hopefully people won’t be prompted to jump into the east river…why bother going on without that hope of a new creed record?

  6. And the Lord looked down from Heaven and spied the musicians in their studio working on a forthcoming album. And He watched and He listened. And He came down to earth, took the singer in his hands, shook him hard and said, “Listen, bitch, I don’t want this crap being played in my name, got it?”

What in the land of Goshen…!
Truly great news. All hail the king is dead!

  8. First Sixpence None The Richer and now, Creed. This is terrible news for all the Hollywood movie producers who turn to Christian “Rock” Groups to cover Middle-Of-The-Road 80′s songs for soundtrack filler.

  9. did I hear correctly that he was working on an album inspired by the passion?

  10. Yep — according to the press release:

Stapp’s first post-Creed recording will be featured on an album coming on August 31st via Wind-up Records that will pool together superstar talent, as they individually offer compositions inspired by the film The Passion of the Christ.

    HELP!

  12. i may get stoned for this, but i loved “higher.” it is particularly annoying when segued w/ journey. then you feel like you’re in a white trash pool hall, maybe in merrick, long island.

  13. Mother Theresa died to break up Creed!

  14. unfortunately, we still have nickelback. aka “creed lite”

  15. BSmith  |   Posted on Jun 4th, 2004

Hopefully Nickelback is the next one to go…but don’t forget Puddle of Shit (err. I mean Mudd).

  16. ack – don’t put phish and creed in the same sentence

  17. This is almost as good news as Scott Stapp tripping over his ego and hitting his throat on a guitar stand, thereby permanently destroying his vocal chords. (goddamn, sometimes I can be mean)

  18. Did anyone ever see that animated video where all the members of Creed had angel wings and they flew around and shot lightning bolts at demons? Holy shit, it was the most awesomely bad video ever. Where the fuck is Stryper when you need them?

  19. i’m not usually one to say bad things about people, but omg, stapp is a douchebag.

  20. mike  |   Posted on Jun 5th, 2004

phish is (was) a talented group of musicians, not a bunch of corporate rock whores..not even close to creed, dont go there..have you ever been to a phish show? i rest my case.

  21. marcus  |   Posted on Jun 5th, 2004

Aw, take it easy on poor Scotty, he’s had it hard:

    http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/stappbust3.html

Sad fact is I know one of those ‘four guys’.

  22. Justin  |   Posted on Jun 5th, 2004

I think if “Beavis and Butthead” had been a late 90s show, rather than an early 90s show, Stuart would have worn a Creed t-shirt instead of a Winger t-shirt.

  23. I was hoping they’d do that Pearl Jam tribute record before they broke up

  24. Angela  |   Posted on Jun 6th, 2004

I can’t believe Scott Stapp is doing an album inspired by Passion of the Christ. That is just taking it too far, I don’t blame Mark and Scott P. for leaving. Yay for those too getting a new vocalist and giving the stuck up I too good for everyone Scott Stapp the boot!

  25. Angela  |   Posted on Jun 6th, 2004

Don’t mind my typos-I was a little fired up!

  26. Ryan Fahrenbruch  |   Posted on Jun 6th, 2004

OH COME ON! GET BACK TOGETHER! Y’ALL ARE GREAT, MY SACRIFICE, ONE LAST BREATH, STAND HERE WITH ME, WEATHERED, HIDE, DON’T STOP DANCING, AND LULLABY. GOOD GOD GET BACK TOGETHER! GOD!!!

  27. long face steve  |   Posted on Jun 6th, 2004

    its time!!!

  28. I was happy to hear this… until I heard that he’s going to be tainting Tea Party with his presence.

  29. I love Creed, I love Scott Stapp! I can’t wait till his solo album comes out, Scott IS God!!!!

  30. taranaki.s  |   Posted on Jun 7th, 2004

Did Scott really trip over on stage. I hope thats not true. What did he ever do for people to think hes a stuck up. I love his music. Hope his new band would sound as great as CREED.

  31. Matt  |   Posted on Jun 8th, 2004

This has to be the WORST thing to happen to Canada since we lost the Stanley Cup!!! Scott Stapp is an ignorant son of a bitch. Granted, Jeff Martin was due to sell out, but Tea Party is still about a billion times better than Creed ever was, and all Stapp is going to bring to the table is a big f*ckin ego!! Tea Party, I beg you – please – PLEASE don’t let this asshole Stapp ruin what you have and that is something that he will kill and that is your dignity!!!

  32. You know i never heard of the tea party….i found some music online and they suck as bad as altar bridge’s lead singer damn he cant sing……..all you haters of Stapp are really ignorant people that know nothing about lead singing……..hes the best singer of the decade and that means a lot. Where ever Stapp goes there will be success even if you dont like him. he was the back bone of creed and he will shine without the other 2 panzy fags that know nothing about symbolism.

  33. Mario  |   Posted on Jun 20th, 2004

Ben, you don’t seem to have a clue. The Tea Party is one of the most interesting and original bands around. In my books they are next to Tool. Try their album Transmission for starter and you may change your mind.

I don’t know what brought them together with the patetic Scott Stapp though.

  34. Hey, come on now, stop bashing on Scott. Myles Kennedy is the lead of Alter Bridge’s name, and he sounds mighty fine! I like Stapp’s singing too, just depends what mood your in (check out Mark Tremonti’s killer riff in Open Your Eyes by AB!)

  35. Juju  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2004

Alter Bridge totally rocks! Tremonti is an INCREDIBLE guitarist as well as Marshall. With Myles’ voice and Phillips drums, it makes for an outstanding combination!

  36. First off Creed is not a fucking christian band….if one more person says that! Second AlterBridge will be just as huge as creed was! Get it over it, AB is going to be huge, and stapps solo stuff will be huge…so now you have to deal with creed as 2 seperate entities. haha now fuck off

  37. truth_seeker  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2004

Haha…ignorant people make me laugh..and the majority of you people take the cake.

Scott Stapp was the back bone of Creed, the driving force…this will be evident in the future more than any of you douche bags will know
    You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

Alter Bridge is a new band…as they have tried to convince everyone, doncha know. Wait for the whole album before writing them off, at least, and if the first song is any inplication of what to expect, i won’t buy it.

  38. ABFan  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2004

Scott Stapp is not working with the Tea Party on his solo album, he only worked with them for one song on the Passion Of The Christ soundtrack.

Check out Alter Bridge, Mark Tremonti’s new band.

  41. **Scott Stapp is the back bone of Creed, the driving force***

YOU ARE ON FUCKING CRACK if you really think that!

  42. unc95  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2004

Come on now folks. How many of you stating how much you hate Creed and how much they suck secretly have every CD at home and have the words to all the songs memorized? Somebody likes Creed since they sold over 20,000,000 CDs. But yeah…whatever.

Didn’t like Creed? Don’t want to see Alter Bridge? Great! More for me.

  43. Can’t wait for the new stuff by both of them.

  44. Well I think it says in the Bible to not judge people, the way I see it, you all are quick to point and blast all of the members of Creed, especially Scott Stapp. I think it’s terrible how the world has changed. Lord, knows we all have faults, Stapp may have an ego problem, but what typical male doesn’t? Especially Rock Star Males! Geez, get over it and move on…that’s what I say..that’s what several great bands have done, to name one more Stone Temple Pilots!

  45. suess  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2004

I never really liked Creed until I saw them live. I actually went to hear the opening band which was Sevendust, but I was really surprised and impressed with CREED. They sounded perfect, and Scott Stapp had such a stage presence. I became a fan that night in the summer of 2000. Anyway I am saddened to hear of the breakup. They had something magical in their music.

  46. whocares  |   Posted on Jun 26th, 2004

personally I don’t get the whole damn controversy, yeah you loved the band but now it’s over and there’s more to it than most will ever know! So Scott is going his own way and Alter Bridge is formed. Listen – if you like it by the damn CD and join all the BB’s if you don’t then let the people who do talk about it… Go find shit that you like and be fucking merry!

  47. The Truth  |   Posted on Jun 29th, 2004

I can not think of a worst fate, perhaps two of the worst bands ever working together – neither of the artists have a sense of humour or a slight bit of talent either.
Wank stains one and all, I can only hope they are flying somewhere and accident of some sort strikes them down.

  48. taranaki  |   Posted on Jun 30th, 2004

Well CREED is still the best band there ever was. If you agree go read “A voice in the wind” by Francine Rivers. Enjoy!!!

  49. taranaki  |   Posted on Jun 30th, 2004

Well CREED is still the best band there ever was. If you agree go read “A voice in the wind” by Francine Rivers. If you really hate reading try reading one page a day. Before you know it youll be so into it. I actually got my cousin to read the whole book and she serously hates reading. Enjoy!!!

  50. Crystal  |   Posted on Jul 2nd, 2004

Why is what i want to know they was one of the best bands and still yet i guess life gos on i dont understand why they would do this

  51. Creed is completely awesome! For all you people that are insulting them: Nobody cares about your insignifigant griping! If you don’t like their music, fine, but you don’t have to tear them apart and tell everyone that they suck just because you’re too ignorant to appreciate their music. I’m sad they’re disbanding!

  52. Lisa Marie  |   Posted on Jul 24th, 2004

All I have to say is that a lot of posts on here are mean spirited. What’s up with that? If you don’t like a band, don’t listen to them. I think that Alter Bridge is going to be great. I really dig their new song “Open Your Eyes.” Why can’t you give them a chance. They haven’t really been out touring yet… let alone an album released. By the way, Creed was a great band, and Scott Stapp will be great on his own.
    Rock on!!

  53. keith  |   Posted on Jul 28th, 2004

Scott must be good because Alterbridge went after a singer that sounds EXACTLY like him, I never liked them anyway, what I am dissapointed in is the fact that the most musiclly diverse band sense Zeppelin is going to back ANYONE, let alone Scott. It is going to be good because it involves the Tea Party and really for no other reason, as an American fan who loves the band it will be great to see them get some play over here. Just saw them at windsor bluesfest…they were the shit.

  54. Willa  |   Posted on Aug 6th, 2004

I’m not keen about my beloved Tea Party collaborating with Scott Stapp… Jeff Martin can sing circles around him… but it will give the Tea the US exposure they deserve.

And the union will extend beyond the song for the Passion album: http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story?id=6398729&afl=rockn&rnd=1091769202640&has-player=true&version=6.0.11.847

Oh, and whether you like Scott, Creed, Tea Party or none of the above please don’t which a violent death on anyone. That’s just low!

  55. Chris  |   Posted on Aug 11th, 2004

I was pretty upset to hear about creed´s disband,Although I saw it coming, They were my favorite band, No one could replace scott´s voice, but alter bridges music sounds just like any other creed song, Tremonti Phillips and scott were meant to be togeather. Well, now I need to figure out wither to burn or worship my creed cd´s….sigh

  56. Cody Canada  |   Posted on Aug 13th, 2004

CROSS CANADIAN RAGWEED ROCKS WAY MORE THAN THE GLAM ROCKERS OF CREED!!!!!!!!

  57. Troy  |   Posted on Aug 18th, 2004

Scott Stapp sounds NOTHING like Myles Kennedy. He is about 2 octaves lower and never hit any high notes. If you think Scott could see “open your eyes” you don’t know anything about vocals. Myles Kennedy sounds a little like Chris Cornell from Sound Garden, and so does the Album. Alter Bridge is on its own and Creed is over so quit comparing them.

  58. Gary  |   Posted on Sep 8th, 2004

The Most musically talented band today by far is the Tea Party. It saddens me to see some people fail to realize this. I’ve seen Pearl jam, Creed, stp, Nirvana, And even the mighty Metalica but they fall very short musically compared to the Tea party. There’s only one other band that I have every single album of and that’s the greatest band of all time Led Zeppelin, but The Tea Party are pretty dam good, believe me. Get there albums , Sit back on a comfy chair and crank the volume, you won’t be dissapointed.

Alter Bridge has risen out of the ashes of Creed indeed. “One Day Remains”, superb record. Definately rock album of the year.

  62. jon k  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2004

whatever attitudes you have, Creed’s songs embody perfect rock, extremely hard edged but with amazing melody and emotion. i havn’t heard one other band get this blend right, and creed have done it on every song they’ve had. Tremonticould pointlessly solo all day but works for the song and stapps voice oozes emotion, character and honesty. Creed wrote some of the best songs of all time. sure there are better guitarists, singers etc, but have they managed to write any song as good as bullets , my own prison and one last breath? no!
    jk (england)

  63. check out the drumming on PILLAR ‘where do we go from here’. the mixing on some of the tracks is outstanding.. you can feel the kit.

  64. sorry guys, i just realised this site is about Creed disbanding, looks like you’re already going through withdrawal.. hope you make it! planit [i.e. random to the extent of not being on this planet e.g. blogging on the wrong subject!] soory guys, I just checked out GREED ok, wait dont freak that was a genuine typo but i thought it was funny so i’m leaving it.. no disrespect seriously.. ok.. i just checked out CREED [finally-Ed] and I like what I hear. i’ve checked out 4 tracks so far; bullets, freedom fighter, and , my sacrifice (fav’ so far) now listening to one last breath. Guys, sometimes you have to let go, be greatful for what you have heard.. we are really lucky to be on this planet and be able to listen to music we love. a little perspective never hurt anyone.. but hey, mourn a while. it’s only natural. peace, planit.

  65. Damian  |   Posted on Nov 3rd, 2004

the bad news: creed no more. the good news: alterbridge is the best new music in years.

  66. Steve  |   Posted on Nov 11th, 2004

Creed was awesome. excellent music. Alter Bridge is fucking amazing. Concert performance is excellent. Band members are humble. I had the opportunity to meet them. They got my stamp of approval. Can Myles sing or what? everlasting sustain. Keep up the execellent work gentlemen!!!!

  67. joe tanner  |   Posted on Feb 25th, 2005

scott stapps is a great singer dont stop singing keep it up the good things they outway the bad all the way i play bass guitar for 10 years and i havent stoped playing yet be positive not negative later

  68. indeed thanks Jesus!! Go therefore and multiply!! Keep rockin for the ROCK!!!!

  69. Oh hell no, don’t go whinging on about him, he is one of the most underestimated singers, and I can’t wait til I get to see the look on his former bandmates faces when he win a grammy for his solo CD The Great Divide, you all are just afraid to hear new music, and MAYBE you all are afraid you may LIKE his new music, I say fuck all of you who don’t like him, learn to like him because Creed is over Alter Bridge will be over in a year or two Scott Stapp is FOREVER and you need to wake up an realize this, http://scottstapp.com/music.html you can preview his album….go enlighten yourself and come back when you have a clue
