This attitude really frustrates me — the belief that Americans want someone they can relate to as president. Frankly, I want someone who’s a lot smarter than me and who doesn’t have dirt. I don’t necessarily need a president I can split a beer with.

I’d bet that John Kerry smoked quite a bit of weed back in the day… not only was he in Vietnam for a couple of months, but he also protested the war afterwards.
Say what you want about the drug/alcohol use of both Bush and Kerry… what’s important is that it is in the past. Everyone makes mistakes when they are young, it’s called learning. I find that a whole hell of a lot better than the blatent, stupid miscalculations (or abuses of power) that Clinton made in the White House.
Oh yeah… about Clinton being a Rhodes Scholar. I’ve heard rumors that he was studying at Oxford when a spot opened up, so they gave it to him. Not that he wasn’t qualified or anything, I just heard that from one of my professors at Georgetown University. I just think it’s a lot more difficult now to get it than it was in the 1960′s.
Also, I heard he got a “C” in Econ (which made all my friends happy with their grades by default).
