I’m supposed to write about DIG!, though there’s nothing I have to add that hasn’t already been written on the Internerd this week. I’ve been a casual fan of both bands for years, but seeing the great documentary immediately made me want to revisit my Dandy Warhols and Brian Jonestown Massacre albums. Especially Brian Jonestown Massacre. I had no idea there was even a relationship between these two bands, much less that BJM was led by a heroin-addled musical genius with a messiah complex. You can watch the movie trailer here. Anton, by the way, does not the support it; you can read his thoughts here.

I’m sure you already know you can download a shitload of BJM tunes on the band’s MP3 page. If you scroll down, you’ll notice you can also download the entire first Lone Pigeon album Concubine Rice. ?

Anyway, DIG! opens tonight. Go see!

Here’s two mashups. The first one is relevant to this post. The second is unrelated, but I just discovered it and had to share.

What do you mean by “supposed to wrte about Dig!”? Were all of you bloggers paid to go see it and then plug it? Or was that just the understanding by acceptining the invite to the screening? It sure has been getting a lot of positive “buzz”…

  5. That “99 Luft Problems” is outstanding.

By the way – thanks for introducing me to Apostles of Hustle and Arcade Fire, both of which are getting massive rotation in my brain. Hoping to track down the Dungen CD…

  6. To Chip: Do you have Schoozzzmmii? I sort of regret buying that, although there are a FEW great songs (“Boats”). I’m told the first album is much better.

To JMK: My understanding is that accepting the invitation to the screening means you should review it, good or bad. I knew I would like it, though!

To Jervo: Hey there! You’re welcome.

Did they pay all the bloggers to write about DIG! or what? Every single blog reviewed it. Kind of like the Arcade Fire and Killers. Are they giving you guys free iPods or something?

    Just curious.

  8. Of course not. No one was paid; the distributor invited bloggers to the premiere. Like how the political bloggers were invited to the RNC and DNC I guess.

Scott: Schoozzzmmii actually consists of the leftovers from Concubine Rice, and plays better if you treat it as such. That said, I like it just as much, but for different reasons.

  10. i feel like a disclosure might have been nice regarding the DIG premiere. stereogum, you are one of the (very)few blogs that is tolerable. please keep it real.
