I’ve only heard three cuts from the forthcoming album, but each is better than the last! You must check out the title track:

Ted Gibson, Celebrity Hairstylist, Lobbies for an Oscar for Hair
“It’s new territory. It’s scary at one point, and exciting at the other.” That a gay black man is the face of the Ted Gibson brand still surprises some. When he’s part of an entourage, “people think I’m the bodyguard half the time,” he said.

  3. the new record kicks all kinds of ass. def way better than Oak. i think i still prefer Tyranny, but not by much. the production on Sheets is pretty slick too.

  4. I think the biggest improvement over Hearts of Oak is that the songs are more in the three minute range. I thought Hearts had a lot of good songs that didn’t know when to quit.

Maybe it’s because I’m canadian but does anyone else think of the tragically hip track “50 Mission Cup” ? You know the one about hockey?

  6. isn’t it “Fifty Mission Cap”?

no, i didn’t think of it. yes, i like the hip. no, i’m not canadian.

  7. There’s not a bad track on the entire album, and there at at least five that all compete with being the best of the bunch. It’s a seriously great CD that I can’t wait to buy when it’s officially released even though i’ve already heard it all.

Also, I don’t think I’m going to be able to get to the CMJ show now, but I was psyched to learn that he’ll be playing at Bowery on 12/11 with Matt Pond PA. I’ve already bought my tix!

I loved Tyranny but never bothered with Hearts of Oak. This song is fucking good though. I will definitely buy this CD.

This happens to be a successful case of downloading spurring record sales.

Damn, that is a great song. I hear a Joe Jackson sound too, which is a good thing.

  10. I’m new here. I found your site via a search about Air’s Deck Safari promos. Very nice blog you’ve got here.

Regarding the post, I heard of Ted Leo’s band about a month ago and looked on my usenet access and found an album, so I got it to check it out and then I came to find that it was the “Shake the Streets” album which had not been released yet… not for months.

Awesome album! I will definetly be buying this when it comes out.
