This is a horribly produced song. The hook (the sample) is great, but the music while he’s rapping is boring. They couldn’t have thrown some vocals or harmony in behind his voice?

Em is being the bigger man in this song by saying that no matter who started the beef, it needs to end; and for that, he deserves your respect.

Eminem was funny and relevent for a brief time but that period has now gone. While I apprecite his lyrics, I can’t help feeling bored with the new album after two listens. A shame but he has left his mark on rap history and that is some feat.
I wwas 18 when Toy Soldiers was released here in England originally (1989) and remember the childlike chorus well – hearing Em’s new single on the radio for the first time this morning brought back memories and images which I thought long fogotten. The song has the kind of catchy melody the lame popsters would kill for today.
I have read all these people saying that the matika-part of like toy soldiers has reminded them of a particular event in there lives, seriously don’t you people see that this is a masterful, ingenious way of grabing your attention.(not to mention the impact it has)

I’ve been an Eminem fan since he came onto the scene with “My Name Is.” I can relate to what he says about his turbulent childhood, being abused by his mother, harassed by bullies, and his general angst. I’m not obsessed about him, but I DO relate and understand.
My Toy Soldiers memory is when I was in the backseat of the car 10 years old and my dad was in one of his bi-polar moods and I was just doing my best to block the whole f**ing world out and ignore my parents arguing.
I hated my dad, I hated being in the middle of everything, having to side with one or the other.
I hated having to go stay with a relative or at a neighboor’s house when my parents were fighting. The song was on the radio and I just curled up into a ball on the backseat and focussed all my attention onto the music to block out their b*tching.
And when I became a teen I continued to use that escape. When my mom and dad would be yellin’ at eachother downstairs I’d be locked in my room upstairs with Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Eminem blasted loud as possible on the stereo.

I heard this song for the first time last night, not properly but enough to realise the sample was from Martika. Naturally I downloaded a whole bunch of Martika and Em’. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my 80′s flashback! I even took out the old photo albums and I dont mind admitting I had the same hair cut and dressed JUST like her. Soft-cock, Hip-hop, Rap, whatever you wish to call it, I think its undeniable that Mr Mathers has a little something for everyone. Personally I think this song kicks ass!

The original is a great song and Em proves that he can make previous titles work again. Before Encore came out i doubt many people had even heard of Martika. Me included.
