Thanks everyone for the great SF suggestions. We’ll be at the Mirah show at Bottom Of The Hill tonight, after we check out Alcatraz. If you’ve got extra Arcade Fire tix for Wednesday, shoot me an e-mail.

That gap has been there for like, 30 years, brah.

the gap is the worst thing about the haight. the best thing being amoeba, obviously. by the way, you should also check out rasputin records on powell st. (which is right next to blondies, which has some of the best pizza in sf). and 826 valencia, which is this awesome pirate shop and is also the location of where people like dave eggars teach writing workshops to kids & teens.

sigh, i wish i had tix to the arcade fire show too. thank god for their two day stint in january.

  3. mirah <3

  4. i missed both the mirah and arcade fire shows when they came through here in st. louis (and nearby in columbia), and i doubt that either show was sold out because that rarely ever happens here. it makes me sad. =[

dude, you’ve got the check out Audium in SF. It’s only hippies moog masterpiece from the 70s. 200 speakers in an egg shaped room, pitch black. you listen to him synth sounds together and basically trip out. drugs recommended, but not required.

san francisco is a grand ol’ town.

    i shit you not

  10. Mirah. Rad. Somewhere in the top twenty for this year’s new albums.

Isn’t that the location of the first Gap that opened way back in 1969? Yeah, it seems ironic now, but the Gap wasn’t always the bastion of conformity that it is today.

  13. For the best crepes, head over to Ti Couz on Valencia.

the Audium was very cool, although older than I thought it would be. Definitely spend a lot of time at Amoeba.

btw, Sophie’s crepes in Japantown is pretty good too.

  16. blondie’s pizza is terrible. the best pizza is in nyc, so i don’t reckon stereogum should bother out here (if you’re really jonesing though, try arinels at 16th/valencia – it’s as close to good as we got).

i’d say stick to the taquerias – la taq on mission/25th is good, cancun, whatever, there’s like a million good ones.

    arcade fire tomorrow night!!!

Have fun at Arcade Fire tonight. Hope you found some tickets. I caught them at Spaceland last night and it was damn near a religious experience. Their Troubadour show tickets sold out in 10 minutes this morning, and fortunately, I get to see them again in a month.

  19. i fucking love mirah. i’m so jealous.

  20. The Haight Street Gap opened in 1985; I lived three doors down at the time. There were riots all week long. (what the poster above is thinking of is the Jeff’s Jeans store in the Sunset, which was the first place to carry Gap jeans in 1969). That same year some genius decided to build a Longs Drugs on Haight x Cole. It was burned to the ground. Now the site is a Goodwill thrift store. No one shops at the Gap (or the dreadfully overprice Villains, which is for tourists. But not Stereogum. We’d never call you a tourist. :-*); everyone shops at Goodwill.
Sorry I missed your visit, and your posts. Next time, dammit. I’m full of tasty and somewhat subversive ideas.

got to see mirah as well as pedro the lion and iron and wine last week (in sf). but yes, the coveted arcade fire show I miraculously got into. and it was awesome. there was an older (friendly) guy taking pictures of people in the crowd/band. anyone know what’s up with that and where I might view his pics?
