The Others’ song is about Stan Bowles, a legendary footballer who played for west London’s finest team, Queens Park Rangers. Fans of The Libertines and Babyshambles may be interested to know that QPR are Pete Doherty’s favourite team. You can read a BBC news story about these two fascinating nuggets of information at http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/funny_old_game/3961457.stm

And, for what it’s worth, Goldie Lookin’ Chain are hilarious. I fully understand why someone might think they’re annoying, but at least they’re making music that’s fun and piss-taking, rather than po-faced and earnest.

I believe that within a year or so N.M.E. will be dragging all these names through the mud.
The simple idea of publishing a “cool” list is somehow ridiculous.
The “cool” thing thay could do is start writing about the music instead of the musicians underwear!

been a fan of the dears for some time now-
ecstatic to see their starting to get a fragment of the recognition they so deserve

lost in the plot is such a powerful song, too.

can’t wait for their show here in montreal this weekend

  9. Art Brut is the future of rock n roll.

I saw the Dears here (across the river from Detroit, Canada side) last month, 100 person capacity, and I couldn’t have asked for a better show. They play in Detroit on Friday and I’ll be there again, you can’t tire of this band as far as I’m concerned.

Robbers on High Street are opening as well, they’re moving up the food chain fast too from what I’ve heard of them.

The NME, does anyone still think that the publication itself is still cool? The Cool List CD is pretty good, I’ve played the likes of Kaiser Cheifs, Bloc Party, The Futureheads and the awesome Willy Mason on my radio show, but that small list on here is just the CD that came with the mag, check out the full list of 50 which should be online, Pete and Carl of Libertines fame, joint first, the NME still got the chapstick out, oh how they like to kiss ass.

But I do agree with one of the posts above, they’ll be slagging most of these cool types off in 12 months. Remember Andrew WK anyone?

  12. i thought i read that the dears tour had been cancelled after tour support ($$$) was pulled. maybe i got bad info. doesn’t matter though since they aren’t coming to columbus anyway. but, i agree, that “lost in the plot” is one of the best songs i heard in 2004.
