I love it, too. It’s good to have them back.

  2. This song is awesome. Hopefully the rest of the album is just as strong. Hopefully I won’t say awesome again.

  3. i was a bit underwhelmed the first time i heard the track, but it’s grown on me some. hope the album is much better though, and that this song maybe works better in the context of the full album.

  4. wow, so so so good.
some cities is gonna be incredible.
its a shame that last broadcast was so overlooked.
    doves = 2005

  5. Wow, can you say ELO?

  6. Nice. The piano portion sounds eerily like Heatwave. Almost too much. The song is really good though, can’t wait for the album.

    Totally sounds like Heatwave…funny.

    flippin sweet

  9. thank you SO much for posting this. i’ve been in love with doves since ‘lost souls’ and i can’t wait for their new release. thank you!

  10. yes, in the first 10 seconds I thought “could it be the devil in me or is this the way love’s supposed to be?”

Am i the only Doves fan that thinks this song is pretty crap???
I hope the album is A LOT better than this.

Also…hear they are gonna do Coachella…which will be great

Eppy- agreed. first few seconds are way too “Mr Blue Sky”.

    but i like the song.

Your love is like a HEATWAVE!

I’m just happy that a new Doves album will ultimately mean an inevitable tour to promote it.

  15. MONYC, I agree. I’m a Doves fan too and this isn’t all that fascinating.

  16. This reminds me of that 80s song (can’t remember title or performer) that had the chorus “…town called malice…”

Also, this sounds a lot more like Tears for Fears than I thought it would. Don’t remember The Last Broadcast sounding this way at all…

  17. Sounds like a Coldplay record that’s warped in the sun.

    Style Council!

From the motown beat to the production of the vocals.

Lovely tune though. Another proof we are in the neo-80′s.

    G.

  19. This is stellar, but, then again, “There Goes the Fear” was probably the best song on Last Broadcast, so they could be just really good at picking their own hits. Still, this band is quietly consistent and infinitely listenable, even for someone who fucked themselves by listening to only Britpop between ages 14-17. That cover art looks great too. Very industrial complex. Very Hudsucker.

    Disagree

“N.Y” is the best song on TLB.

    Doves at SXSW and Coachella!

  21. Anyone know when this is released in the UK?? I too have loved them since the first album. They just get better…They do ‘soaring’ better then Coldplay any day

  22. Felix  |   Posted on Jan 7th, 2005

Another album = another tour…Woohoo! Dig the song BTW.

  23. Judson  |   Posted on Jan 8th, 2005

Album will be released in UK Feb 21

    USA – Mar. 1

“town called malice” was by The Jam, and it didn’t remind me of that at all.

  25. You can download the track at my site.

i saw doves at hammerstein, god 2 years back? 3? i dunno… fat chance i’ll catch em’ in the middle of the country. lucky urbanites. (but my rent is $525 for a decked out 2 bedroom, so maybe i could fly to nyc..)

    btw the clip rocked.

  27. Foxy  |   Posted on Jan 12th, 2005

Torr, Stereogum–thank you! I can’t get the clip to play on Windows Player. Now I’ve got the MP3 to tide me over until the album comes out. I heard this on Virgin Radio and couldn’t get enough of it. Can’t wait until this hits the States. Thanks. BTW Torr, GREAT site.

    Awesome.

  29. I’m very disappointed in the first release from your new album. Quite frankly… it’s shit and i’d rather be bent over a table and rogered with a bunch of twelve inch vinyls,(sideways :o p) caught by the river ‘et al’ love it, why you going down the middle of the road ?
No need to pander to the masses, do stuff for the fan base that supported you from the start

That guitar riff during the bridge reminds me of Mike Oldfield circa “Tubular Bells.” And also The Style Council, like the person above mentioned. But I like this song quite a bit.
