i’ve never heard of ivy before but listened to “thinking of you” and really enjoyed it. can anyone recommend one of their better albums?

    thanks

  3. I’m glad you enjoyed it c.b.. I’m a big fan of Ivy, of which Fountains of Wayner/Oscar nominee/”Crank Yankers”-theme writer Adam Schlesinger is a member. I love APARTMENT LIFE, but I would suggest you start with LONG DISTANCE: you’ll probably recognize some of the tunes from various movies, WB dramas, and commercials. If you like that, pick up APT LIFE and the fantastic covers album GUESTROOM.

i agree with scott completely, except i would probably suggest that an ivy newcomer start with “apartment life”. and while scott alluded to it obliquely, one of adam’s best songs ever is the title song from “that thing you do.”

  5. Apartment Life is definitely the one to get

i’d start from the beginning. ivy’s first album, realistic, was rather essential in gettting me off of the generic indierock kick and into pop music my frosh year in college. “no guarantee” and “don’t believe a word” remain all time faves of mine.

  7. ivyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!

I was seriously just thinking of them the other day and wondering if they were ever going to get around to finishing up another album – what with the whole Stacy’s Mom thing blowing FoW into a new stratosphere… anyhow, I’m incredibly psyched.

Scott – I’ve been trying to get Audrey to listen to Ivy for *years*. If I’d known you liked them we could have ganged up on her years ago ;)

  8. i am so glad to see Ivy getting the Stereogum love. if anyone wants to check them out for the first time, “long distance” is the one to grab, if only for “edge of the ocean”, used in about 30 bajillion car commercials. or just one.

    i forget.

  9. Nice work thank you pal!
