Always thought this Tennessean family was more style than substance (on account of the retro facial hair and Strokes tour slot) and consequently slept on the first album. So the thoroughly engaging Southern-fried follow-up took me by surprise. PC users can stream all of Aha Shake Heartbreak here. “The Bucket” (smart choice for first single) is one of my most played iTunes these days. The verse melody rips Tori Amos’ from “Silent All These Years.” I ain’t mad at that. Someone mash ‘em please.

I like Kings of Leon, but what was up with them having five songs in the movie “Stuck On You”?
i have to agree that i wasn’t too fond of their first album– they kinda reminded me of a garagey black crowes.
but i do love me some ‘bucket!’
I disagree. I thought the first album rocked. Like how the Strokes album SHOULD’VE been. More energy and unintelligible in a new, different way.
yeah i loved the first album as well, except that stuck on you thing did kind of ruin it. the new album’s already been out in the UK for months and it’s still not out here in North America what’s up with that? why do bands keep doing that? anyway new album is great as well.
