Brandon’s got beef with fellow NME cover boys (and HFStival act) the Bravery. Via MTV News:
“Look at a band like the Bravery. They’re signed because we’re a band,” Flowers said. “I’ve heard rumors about [members of] that band being in a different kind of band, and how do you defend that? If you say, ‘My heart really belongs to what I’m doing now,’ but you used to be in a ska band. I can see the Strokes play or Franz Ferdinand play and it’s real, and I haven’t gotten that from the Bravery. I think people will see through them.”

That’s pretty funny coming from a guy riding the tail end of a trend himself. His band looks like they were put together by the label. The same as FF, The Strokes and The Bravery.
“Hey, what are the kids into these days. Let’s find a local bar band and have them add a keyboard player and verse them in 80′s classics.”

The only reason the Killers were signed is becasue bands like New Order, Gang of Four, and Duran Duran had a resurgence in the past few years, and Fat White Dude the record exec wanted a way to capitalize on “the kids,” since they would probably be too stupid to turn off their radios.
Don’t get me wrong, I actually liked the Killers’ album but that boy shouldn’t think so higly of himself. Catchy as it may be at times, it is not spectacular. Sorry, mormon boy but you look really strange with eyeliner… not dangerous or ironic.
And the Killers were signed because Hot Hot Heat was a band. Q.E.D.

Leaving aside the issue of whose work is “genuine” or the reasons behind their decision to play a certain kind of music… Who wants to hear what Brandon F**kin’ Flowers has to say about it? poor, misguided brandon. just as people were starting to accept the fact that his lil new wave band weren’t the worst thing since creed and now he shoves his foot so deep in his mouth it’s not even funny. methinks he’s just jealous, since it’s obvious that the bravery are on the verge of becoming the good charlotte of new wave (i.e. selling boatloads of records to impressionable teens that will copy their updated ‘hot topic’ wardrobe while the killers wonder why the suits just aren’t working anymore).

I see no reason for him to slag ska music in his little tiff. As a long time fan of ska, I take offense at that. Besides, it was great British ska bands like the Specials or the Selecter that helped lay the groundwork for the original new wave. There’s more talent in Hepcat’s little (broken up) finger than in his whole make-up kit.

Bravery wins. I don’t give a fuck what a band looks like or what they used to do. It’s the music that matters, and it doesn’t have to be smart, or revolutionary, just good. It just has to be good.
I picked up both
the Bravery is Ashlee to the Killers’ Jessica, they’re the same band through and through. I’m surprised not everyone’s “seen through” the Killers’ overdone crap; they couldn’t have been 7 years old in 1981 and there’s no reason to regurgitate all this stuff from that time period. The Killers are officially my most cringeworthy band since Maroon 5. BTW “Pieces of Me” is still an awesome song.

Stealing from your betters is what every artist does. And if you want to make money playing your music, you will have to make “marketing” decisions no matter how much you disguise them.
That being said, Mr. Flowers is a dork. And why all this wasted breath? The only memory of the Killers in five years will be a (nostagically enjoyable) episode of Pop-Up Video.

Good lord people…Flowers’ statement is exactly true. Look at the Killer’s fanbase…it’s certainly a demographic dominated by preteens and young teenagers. Said preteens and young teenagers have never heard music from new order or the like. It’s all new to them. Look at the bravery’s fanbase, a few more pretentious music snobs than the killers’ but all in all the same keyboard-loving teenagers. I enjoy a few bravery tunes, but they are just trying to nose into what is probably the biggest music market out there right now. They certainly dont deserve the title ‘next biggest thing’. Wait till everyone’s burnt ‘honest mistake’ onto a cd and plays it until it gets tired…

I will say that I find the Killers album to be good. I don’t think it’s re-inventing the wheel, and if Interpol didn’t have any success, the Killers would still be playing in their Las Vegas basements. oh brandon flowers, has your head gotten bigger than your fanbase? i <3<3 the killers, i think their fun and catchy, but obviously no kind of revolutionary rock, and yes the same goes for the bravery, they are catchy and fun, nothing too serious, BUT one large difference that tells me to lean toward bravery a smidge more:
ive seen both in concert and the bravery were 20x better than the killers concert wise, you could tell they wanted to be on stage, it was an overall good show with good energy. the killers show lacked energy, any kind of movement and brandon looked like he did not want to be up there. the curly haired killer was a nice guy, but im not sure about the rest, and the bravery key boardist was pretty nice as well, so yeah musically could be a catchyfest toss up but concert wise, no contest for me.
plus if ur gonna start “pointing fingers at who stole what” the line would never end until you got to elvis who in turn “stole” music from the people around him …ect.. you could still probably go on from their, soo in conclusion someone needs to kick that pink suit wearing cutie, brandon flowers in the arse.

I have fallen for Brandon Flowers harder than any other celebrity, along with many of the band’s loyal fans. This guy has so much talent in him, it’s unbelievable. Each to their own. I agree with Brandon Flowers about the Bravery, and I really can’t stand any of their songs except An Honest Mistake. But I also agree with the people who are saying how big-headed Brandon Flowers is being, because he is. But yeah, he is also soo damn fine.. Yeah, if you hate the Killers then fine, that’s your opinion. I listen to the music the bands play rather than the little feuds they may have with other bands.. They’re just added fun (:

whenever i hear a song by the killers, i’m filled with awe for them, because not everyone can make music so powerful. Take Mr. Brightside for instance. The story behind how mr. brightside was written is awesome! maybe if you guys actually looked into more then the faults of people you would find that they are actually really talented.

You diss the Killers so I thought you were dissing the Killers because you were Bravery fans but then you hate both bands which makes no sense at all. What did Brandon ever do to you? I know what Brandon said was uncalled for. But he just said an OPINION not a fact. I heard the Bravery and I only like 2 songs. The rest of the songs were crappy. The Killers are great. I love them.
