Stereogum’s always down with OPP (other people’s playlists). Thanks to Le Tigre’s mix I rediscovered this gem…

JD Sampson (who I also saw outside my Duane Reade last month) explains…

“I love Michael Jackson, and I love Michael Jackson’s dance tracks, but for some reason ‘Human Nature’ is the track I find to be a real hidden treasure. This song is super emotional and a real beauty.”

Saw local boy David Mead open for Joe Jackson at Roseland last year, and he did a nice acoustic version…

Anyway, if Jacko molested you please tell us about it in the comments.

Electro-punk-rapper Sneaky Mike's persona emphasizes having a good time
His track "Make Noise" is reminiscent of electro-punks Le Tigre or The Death Set, while "I'm From the Future" is closer to the electroclash of Peaches or Fischerspooner. "When I started my solo project, I went back to my studio to make productions that ...

Michael Jackson got me drunk on Manischewitz and molested my uvula! (BTW: Bubbles the chimp has been freeze-dried and is displayed on Michael’s firplace mantle alongside a plexiglass box filled with his gold-plated feces…)

So funny that you mentioned that, Scott, because I was listening to “Thriller” a couple months back and realized how great “Human Nature” is. I think there were like seven singles released off that album, and “Human Nature” could easily have been an eighth.

  3. jenny  |   Posted on Apr 6th, 2005

This just makes me sad. Thriller was my first real record [yes, the big black kind with the hole in the middle] and it’s so amazing even today. Too bad Michael is a nut job now.

I always remember people like Quincy Jones saying at that time that Michael was like a young person in an adult body and had such an innocence in him that he could relate to kids like Emmanuel Lewis. All the red flags where there in ’83!

Michael Jackson just molested my booty, causing it to sway back and forth rhythmically.

  5. jake  |   Posted on Apr 6th, 2005

he fondled my nose without my permission repeating over and over in a very ritualistic way
“I will get this nose, I will get this nose”
    it was weird

  6. 9 tracks on the album and *7* were top 10 singles. That is f-ing ridiculous.

  7. loveanddeath  |   Posted on Apr 6th, 2005

Micheal Jackson made me stroke his parakeet.

  8. smallwonderrobot  |   Posted on Apr 6th, 2005

Perhaps that should be his legal defense. “Tell them that it’s human nature.”

  9. Kier  |   Posted on Apr 6th, 2005

A beautiful song from an amazing record. The SWV re-make “Right Here” is also one of my favorites.

  10. Yale Bloor  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2005

I couldn’t even get a Catholic priest to molest me let alone Jacko!

  11. thekraken  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2005

Awesome, yet I don’t have itunes, so I can’t see the playlist. Any chance of listing it here?

  12. That SWV Right Here/Human Nature Remix f-ing rocks!

    Le Tigre’s Playlist

    Kathleen Hanna’s Playlist (tracks 1-14)

“Don’t Go by Yaz” (Track 1): “If you’ve never heard Allison Moyet’s voice, run don’t walk towards this album.”

“Push It by Stereo Total” (Track 2): “A great cover of Salt-N-Pepa’s awesome hit.”

“Dancing Machine by Jackson 5″ (Track 3): “I used to make up dances to this in our basement, I think it’s as great now as I did then.”

“C30, C60, C90 Go by Bow Wow Wow” (Track 4): “There’s a spanish and an english version available of this lesser-known Bow Wow Wow gem.”

“Lesson Learned by Gossip” (Track 5): “The singer for this charasmatic NW band is Beth Ditto. People say she’s best heard live, but I don’t know how she can sing better than this.”

“Coconuts by Junior Senior” (Track 6): “This great band is like a new disco version of the Archies.”

“Teeny Weenie Boppie by Free Kitten” (Track 7): “Kim Gorden from Sonic Youth and Julie Cafritz from Pussy Galore made an experimental album in the ’90s that quietly changed everything.”

“All the People by Money Mark” (Track 8): “A feel-good track for politically bad times.”

“Uptown Top Ranking by Althea and Donna” (Track 9): “A girl group reggae classic, must be on every mixed tape.”

“Be Good by Frumpies” (Track 10): “Tobi Vail’s vocal line is completely unforgettable on this super sexy lo-fi track.”

“Bigelow 6-2000 by Brenda Lee” (Track 11): “Brenda Lee’s crazy sutter creates a language all of it’s own. She is the queen.”

“I’m Into Something Good by The Stool Pidgeons” (Track 12): “I’m a sucker for three things, great female vocals, ’60s bubblegum, and interesting takes on old songs. This cut has all three.”

“Sticks and Stones by Thee Headcoatees” (Track 13): “This is garage rock at its best.”

“Run Cold by Holly Golightly” (Track 14) “Holly used to be in Thee Headcoatees, now she makes soundtrakcs for complicate girls to live by.”

    J.D Samson’s Playlist (Tracks 15-24)

“Operate by Peaches” (Track 15): “This is by far the most compelling from Peaches second full-length release, F**********r. I am so super into her vocals on this song, it is a really sexy one, I think.”

“Hella Nervous by Gravy Train” (Track 16): “I love to play this song when I DJ at clubs. All the kids love to dance to Gravy Train, and especially this track. I can’t wait to go on tour with these hotties and dance to their music every night.”

“Jason’s Basement by Gossip” (Track 17): “This Gossip track is my ultimate favorite. Not only is this track so much fun to move your body to, but the lyrics make the hair stand up on the back of my neck. This is a powerful song from a super power band.”

“Human Nature by Michael Jackson” (Travel 18): “I love Michael Jackson, and I love Michael Jackson’s dances tracks, but for some reason “Human Nature” is the track I find to be a real hidden treasure. This song is super emotion, and a real beauty.”

“Drop the Pilot by Joan Armatrading” (Track 19): “It was extremely difficult for me to pick one track Joan’s for this list. Joan Armatrading is an amazing and intergral part of the women’s music community and has given it to many incredible tracks. This track rocks out a bit more than some of her others. I love hearing her get so amped up while she sings.”

“Try Me Out by Kaito” (Track 20) “We played with this band in Europe last spring, and I totally feel in love with their new record, Band Red. I think the record sounds incredible and really does justice to their live performance, which also rocks. ”

“Retreat, the Most Familiar, Extensive, I bet! by Erase Errata” (Track 21): “Errase Errata is one of the best bands that has happened in the past 10 years in my opinion. The band has an incredible strong rythem section that makes my heart totally pound with happiness. With Jenny Hoyston’s vocals and Sara Jaffe’s rigid guitar, I am so happy to be able to have heard them tear apart the stage so many times.”

“Galileo (Live) by the Indigo Girls” (Track 22): “I am a lesbian, and although I was never into the Indigo Girls as a youth, it seems that I understand their importance now more than ever. This live recording of ‘Galileo’ is a historical reference to an amazing moment. At one point, Amy and Emily let the audience sing a line of the song, and the women’s voices echo through the track. Amazing.”

“I’m Still in Love with You by Sean Paul” (Track 23): “I think this cover of an old Marcia Aitken song is really incredible. I think that Sean Paul’s vocal stylings are incredibly innovative, for some reason this song really gets me going. The bass is so fast.”

“If You Want It) Do it Yourself by Gloria Gaynor” (Track 24): “Classic disco with a DIY message is the perfect way to start the day.”

    Johanna Fateman’s Playlist (Tracks 25-33)

“War by Edwin Starr” (Track 25): “Number one in the summer of 1970, it should be back on the charts now cuz war is still good for absolutely nothing.”

“Walking on Thin Ice by Ono” (Track 26): “Feminist conceptual artists should make dance tracks more often.”

“She’s Lost Control by Grace Jones” (Track 27): “The Joy Division version is cool too, but no one does a menancing deadpan over a slow jame like Grace Jones.”

“Business Goes On As Usual by Roberta Flack” (Track 28): “”Feels like the unofficial theme-song of the RNC, war profiteers, and FOX news. This is a haunting, minimal recording and there is something incredibly intimate and devestating about her performance.”

“Proper Band by Free Kitten” (Track 29): “I love it when they say “big amps.”

“Demirep by Bikini Kill” (Track 30): “This is our very own Kathleen Hanna’s former band and Jo picks it as one of her favorite feminist punk songs ever.”

“Jealous Girls by Khia” (Track 31): “For those times when jealous girls need to work it out on the dance floor.”

“Get It by Jean Grae” (Track 32): “Underground classic by NYC’s sharpest tongue.”

“Living For the City by Stevie Wonder” (Track 33): “This is a heartbreaking song – unfortunately still totally relevant – about big city dreams dashed by racist law enforcement and court systems.”

  14. jesus michael, stop mooning us with your chin.

  15. nice acoustic version- no one’s mentioned the use of ‘human nature’ in nas’ ‘it ain’t hard to tell,’ btw, another pretty nice reappropriation.

oh, and ‘P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)’ is far more disturbing in my reckoning in relation to the MJ trial, btw. just saying.

Who was the rapper that sampled from that song. For some reason I think it was Nas, but I can’t find the song…anyway, even the song that sampled from human nature was great!
