Sowing the seeds of summer
It's awfully hard to think summer thoughts in February, especially when we're coming off an impressive cold snap this weekend. But believe it or not, the seeds of the coming change in seasons are being planted this week across the Northern Hemisphere.
Ready for Summer? The Job Season Is
It may be cold outside, but it's the perfect time to think about plans for this summer and fall. Local attractions and companies are now hiring seasonal employees. Whether it's handing out goodies at a baseball game or helping transport guests back to the ...

  1. Wow – shouldn’t these shows be free or at least cheaper since they’re using public commons?

    The Killers? *barf*

  3. Yeah this is kinda fucked IMO. What happened to the days of huge free concerts in the park? Paying to see shows in Central Park is ridiculous. It takes all the fun out of going. Yuck.

  4. Jim,
Those are charity shows (which charities? I do not know).

The full Summerstage lineup, which includes cheaper, if not free shows will be announced later.

I like Summerstage – acoustics and sightlines aren’t the best, but you seem to get a higher percentage of girls than at regular indoor shows.

  5. Oh if those are charity shows, I retract my previous statement.

  6. but seriously….35 bucks to see the Killers
    or even Modest Mouse…
    better be a good charity….
and they better be providing free ecstasy.

  7. I’d like to see all of ‘em, except for Killers obvs. David Byrne and Elvis Costello are always awesome live (I saw Elvis there in ’95).

is there a similar site to stereogum for us left coasters

  9. Indie-yuppie charity, I guess. Are the bands getting paid?

  10. eatsdirt  |   Posted on Apr 19th, 2005

Jim, most of the paid shows benefit Summerstage itself. The shows raise money so they can do the great free shows that happen throughout the summer.

eeew i’d pay NOT to see the killers and louis xiv live. SNAP

  12. i’d rather have my face sawn off than listen to louis xiv, let alone pay to attend a show

  13. Dino / BSS?!!! Greatest? Show? Ever?

  14. devin  |   Posted on Apr 19th, 2005

That killers/louis xiv line-up is terrfiying, the biggest poseurs in rock today combined who knows what they’re capable of.

  15. I side with dommer — what about us music junkies in Cali? I want GIbbard over here!

  16. Quit yer whinin, brah — Cali gets Coachella, New Yorkers get Central Park Benefit Concerts. Even steven, aiight?

I remember seeing the Tragically Hip for free (even though I ended up donating $1) in Central Park on Canada Day in 2000. For a poor boy from Newfoundland like me, it was quite a treat.

Mind you, seeing Death Cab and Stars would be way cooler.

  18. shellshocked  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

haha, stereogum likes the killers and louis xiv. oy.

  19. erklie  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

Charity or not, the idea of paying/charging essentially the same amount for Killers+Louis as for David Byrne makes me want to spew into a small paper cup.

Dinosaur Jr is still around? I used to love those guys! Back in what? ’93? ’94? Are they still any good?

  21. frankie  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

Dinosaur Jr is also going out with Love as Laughter this summer, so dont dispair if the $37-$40 is a bit out of your range…

  22. jenny  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2005

Kelly Clarkson is also playing in May as part of Summerstage. stereo, I thought you would have included that if only for the “Since U Been Gone” coolness factor.

  23. The Kelly Clarkson show isn’t listed on summerstage.org, which is where he lifted the list from.

…where I also noticed that tickets go on sale April 23rd.

  24. Yes! From Justin to Kelly to Summserstage…
