In the meantime, enjoy some MP3s of Talking Heads’ CBGB debut. The (pre-Jerry Harrison) gig took place in June 1975 (before Win Butler was even born) and the band, having dubbed themselves Talking Heads only weeks earlier, opened for the Ramones. Audio (.zip) can be found here. Sound quality is fair, but it’s history.

CBGB pretty much sucks anymore anyway. Maybe if they get featured in another Sevendust video that will revive them. Zing!
My friend’s brother-in-law was a member of The Talking Heads in the early days but nothing was happening with them so he quit the band and joined the Marines. They got a deal almost immediately after and he watched them all get mega famous. Bummer.
There is another way to save CBGB’s. Pay the rent!
cb’s is an embarassment nowadays….soccer moms walking around with the t-shirt on, french doors, etc etc
i wish it would close before it appears in an olsen twins movie or a maroon 5 video.
I’m suprised that Debbie Harry,David Byrne, Chris Franz, Tina Waymouth and Sting aren’t stepping up to the plate and helping Hilly out, much like Springsteen did with the Bottom Line.
Well thanks to the stylists of Asslee, Avril, The Olsen twins and Hillary Duff any kind of “punk” or “rock” clothing i.e. CB’s shirts, Ramones shirts, Chuck T’s etc are hot umong the teens and tween sets this year. I’m sure none of these girls even know were CB’s is nor would they ever set foot inside. A few years ago it was Britney with the belly shirts and low rise jeans. Its all a marketing tool.
As a patron of CB’s for some 10 years I own a CB’s t-shirt and you would be suprised at how many soccer moms and suburban dads stop me when I wear my cb’s shirt and tell me that they saw Blondie at CB’s or they saw the Talking Heads at CB’s.
I was putting up posters in the greenwich village about a year ago and these two prissy girls came up to me all dressed in those mini frilly skirts..they asked me where cbgb was. then they asked me what kind of “dancing club” it was. oh man, i hope they got raped by some big black guy. or by a group of “punks.”
