Saints + Lovers were fantastic at Mercury last night. After the show I told Dennis it sounded like U2 meets MBV. And he sings like Jeff Buckley, which is refreshing ’cause lead singers don’t sing these days. S + L’s releasing a Joy Division cover on Sarah‘s new label. Then a gig at Bait Shop?
During Giraffes we left our blogging cohorts behind to veg out and watch SNL. Paula Abdul cameo’d.

Ewwwww what’s wrong with Jennifer Garner, IMHO Ben Asslick is sooooo gross and annoying and just the fact that there maybe a spwan of him ewwwwww!!! If I were her I would have stuck with Michael Vartan! And lets hope this kid turns out in looks and personality to be just like his/her mother.

why is snl supporting paula abdul through all of this mess she’s in?
it seems odd that they aren’t mocking her. she seems drunk whenever i see ‘american idol’, and she’s constantly flirting with the male contestants. the most painful thing of all is her comments. she possesses literally no critical eye whatsoever. everything sounds good to her. it seems most people reading this site don’t enjoy System of a Down. i’m sure paula thinks they’re wonderful, have great stage presence, and make their songs their own.
seriously, if you want to hear a guy with most surreal voice i’ve ever heard, listen to circa survive or saosin. anthony green is from another world, i swear. puts this guy’s voice to shame.
I didn’t like Circa Survive
‘Weekend Update’ mocked Paula real good like, which was a surprise given her ‘surprise’ appearance….and how often has she been under the knife. I don’t watch Idol, so i might be dated here, but the bitch looks made up of discarded Visa and Mastercards.
I think the guy from Circa Survive has a great voice and I think the Saints and Lovers guy has a great voice as well but the styles are totally different. They’re equally amazing. But no one is putting anyone “to shame” here. At least these guys are both singing their brains out.
And dear miss Jane Goodall who says the Saints and Lovers singer doesn’t have confidence should put her head way back up her ass where it belongs.

I hadn’t heard of Circa Survive, but just checked it out. Yeah, his voice is good, but I’ve seen Saints and Lovers live and that singer’s voice is amazing and HONEST, which is something I don’t often hear in a voice these days. What he does seems effortless and true. Also, I agree with the comment above: totally different styles. Is the Circa Survive guy better than Cedric from Mars Volta/ATDI (obviously his biggest influence)? Maybe that’s a comparison for all of you to wet your pre-school pants over…
Dear Jane Goodall and Jack, do you appreciate art? Do you listen to and appreciate music or just critique it? Music is art and is open to the audience’s interpretation and taste. This isn’t American F’n Idol, this is the real world where some artists bust their asses to create something honest, interesting and unique – it’s not about judging someone’s talent or lack their of. There’s room for home grown talent like Saints and Lovers and Jeff Buckley as well as Circa Survive, if you like it, buy it if not, go home. What bands do you two perfrom with? We’d all be interested in checking out YOUR musical talents so get off of your asses, take off the judge’s cloaks and do something meaningful or just sit there with your tivo and keep your small minded bullshit opinions to yourselves. S&L have nothing in common with My Bloody Valentine. Give me a break!!! I mean they’re ok, but not the great white hope that the blogger girls are promoting. The singer is a poser and it all seems very fake and intentionally dramatic. These guys would pair great with the Bravery. Note to new bands: Date a blogger.
