The Kidz Bop version of “Float On” was a minor blog sensation a few months back. Ultra revealed the tracklist for the forthcoming Volume 8. It includes Franz, U2, and Green Day along with the usual (TRL) suspects.

I begged Sarah to let me post this first. It’s the video for Kidz Bop’s “Since U Been Gone.” Click to watch (.mov).

Don’t hate. You know you love it. Animal Collective and Flaming Lips fans will dig the costumes.

UPDATE: Thanks reader Jeffrey for the awesome screengrab…

    WOW.

That was All Kinds Of Awesome.

That grrl is gonna have the best story to tell when she’s older.

  9. Courtney  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

Do you think the kidz will sing the “i can DO your girlfriends” line from Rob Thomas’s “Lonely no more”? if so, thats just all sorts of wrong.

    Are these record execs deaf??

  10. Anna  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

Dude, it’s “Open up to me/Like you do your girlfriends.”

Off topic, but still. Rob is talking about “doing” multiple women.

  11. Anna  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

    Ack… “isn’t”. My bad.

  12. Worth it if just for the backing band of animals. But a question arises: Just where exactly is this video intended to be shown, and for whom?

  13. *shudders to think of Rob doing anyone*

  14. cashew  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

I hate these blasted Kids Bop craps

  15. Ack  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

Whatever happened to rock and roll?

10 year old sarah gives 35 year sarah permission to like this one.

  18. buzz  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

That asian kid in the audience is so effing the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.

  19. i love this. so much. i really want to believe that there are little concerts like this with little kids jumping up and down.

    this really made my day.

  20. this reminds me of going to shows at the Hi-Tone in Memphis – but eh – I’m old.

  21. christine  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

    that was fabulous!!

  22. elle  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

That is the greatest thing ever!

  23. Melissa  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

Makes me wish I was a kid again…….worry about making silly videos of fav songs without worrying about how to pay the elec bill to power it all. That was so cute. Gotta admit- gives me ideas for entertainment for my kids……..

  24. Considering they run commercials for Kidz Bop late at night, I’m guessing there’s a huge stoner audience for the stuff.

    Anyhoo, that’s some awesome shit.

  25. 088b  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

When the zz-top/walrus drummer got his closeup my heart exploded with joy. Two other thoughts: when i saw the boy take off the lens cap (the beginning) i thought it was that Aiysha video; and 2, the cut-and-paste intro was quality.

  26. sham  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

i laughed so hard i choked.

  27. Moses  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

Buzz had it right. The Asian kid rockin’ out after the Tiger did its cheerleading jump was the best. He’s a mini William Hung.

  28. brooks  |   Posted on May 11th, 2005 0

Glad I’m not the only person that loved the Asian kid – by the way, he’s making his “o-face” at 2:37. it’s fantastic.

  29. carlie  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

Anybody else notice the fat kid who resembles Dracula near the end?

  30. ruxquiero  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

Blah! I thought that screengrab was Batboy for a second.

  31. rockin' tiger  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

I would be so happy if all videos were exactly like this.

  32. catherine  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

–Those kids in the audience now know just what to do at a Hitler Youth rally.–

    Exactly what I was thinking.

  33. Now that’s a lot of furries!

  34. That was genius. These guys at Wormseye films are my new heroes. Looks like they’ve done videos for Stellastar* and Jill Sobule. Not that this means anything. Their movie is pretty funny http://www.wormseyefilms.com/quicktimes/magic_hour_exc.mov

  35. Speechless.

For the first time in years… I have reason to get out of bed in the morning.

    Thank you.

    That chick is bangin’

  37. jams  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

i’d love to be able to say that i was once a drumming walrus in a music video.

  38. i’d love to see them do a cover of liz phair’s "blowjob queen"…

  39. jfantastic  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

so I actually really enjoyed the video…

that video was 10 times better then that Crap video “Candy Shop” 50-Cent did…

  40. Bribo  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

This has reached new levels of awesomeness.

  41. Billy K  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

Quite possibly the coolest thing I’ve ever…wait, this just in…

YES. That is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.

I want Gator on bass in my band.

  42. Dan  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

Damn, that I didn’t realize at first that the little asian kid was a kid. I thought it was William Hung spazin out.

  43. yennyfair  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

loves it! the screengrab reminds me in a weird way of thom yorke. and what’s with the freaky zebra at the end? i’d say it’s totally random, but really, what isn’t in this video.

  44. anoush  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

I’ve had the worst week. But, golly geee, that little video actually made me cry with its cuteness.

  45. djelvis  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

don’t make Lil’ Hung angry. You won’t like it when he’s angry…

Anybody know where the “Float On” video is?

  46. j. dilla  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

after cracking up, and disturbing the rest of my office in the process, the animal suits got me to thinking: if this is popular with the kiddies, why haven’t the Flaming Lips managed to tap the 5-8-year-old market yet? (the stoner market already overlaps the Lips and Kidz Bop, after all.)

  47. SmallWonderRobot  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

Flaming Lips did tap that market: they were on the SPongebob soundtrack. I loved this. I have no idea what Kids Bop is or whatever, but like evryone else, had a blast.

  48. the link seems to be busted already. i pulled the .mov and put it on my server temporarily.

  50. I have it mirrored on my site.

    Fluxblog

  51. Just heard from the director of the vid. Link removed by request of the label. :(

Allegedly it will be posted again soon. Good luck looking for mirrors.

  52. smitty  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

    thanks for the link rik.
    love the dancing tiger.

  53. smitty  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

the link rik posted works…for now…

  54. Kier  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

Link’s gone bad. Anybody have an alternate? After reading all the comments i’ve got to see it.

  55. me  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

totally effing awesome and the best. video. EVER.

and hey allan – you might wanna clean your hornrims, as there are definitely ‘negroe’ children in the crowd, including one boy that gets a cameo shot.
    recognize, fool!

  56. drowned_in_milk  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005 0

Remember when all those kids got to dance around with the Arcade Fire for Pancake Mountain at the 9:30 club? “It’s a school night and we’re out past our bedtime(YEAAAH!!)” Get ready to puke.

http://www.pancakemountain.com/tv.html . That makes me so mad for reasons I cannot begin to explain.

  57. Asian kid animated!

(sometimes highlighting text in this board is screwy, so you can just click on “stereogum” below)

  58. The QT link is back up. ROCK

  59. macneil  |   Posted on May 13th, 2005 0

So F’ing good it’s ridiculous. Love all the wormseye stuff. That film on their site is amazing.

  60. ano  |   Posted on May 13th, 2005 0

stereogum’s gettin’ a bad habit of biting from other blogs and not giving credit. that’s sloppy business. and fluxblog is kinda big enough to have been seen by some of your readers, dontcha think?

  61. Hey Ano, you’ve got it backwards.

Matty fluxblog got the video link from stereogum (director leaked it to me).

I hate to be all “I posted it first!” but well, I did.

  62. that was hilarious, perfect screen grab of that asian kid.

  63. jonny  |   Posted on May 13th, 2005 0

i think i saw one black kid.
    YAY FOR DIVERSITY!

  64. Drew  |   Posted on May 14th, 2005 0

What’s wrong with that Arcade Fire/Pancake Mountain video? I think it’s awesome they did that. Shit, if I had kids, I’d rather watch The Arcade Fire with them than Barney or The Wiggles.

I dig The Evens song about vowels. Seeing Ian MacKaye doing kiddie songs is hilarious.

  65. AJ  |   Posted on May 15th, 2005 0

Why is this video better than anything on Tv? I vote for more kidz bop videos.

  66. mtbatol  |   Posted on Sep 7th, 2005 0

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!!
Damn, am I the only one who was thrown back into PBS/Disney Channel/Nickalodean nostalgia with that video? Watching that makes me wanna watch the daytime programming on those networks all over again ^_^

…then again maybe not …guess the nostalgia worn off already.

  67. Jooly  |   Posted on Nov 9th, 2005 0

This is still my favorite post in the history of stereogum.
