Contains all your great-grandma’s favorites: “Pardon Me Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha While I Laugh” (“contains stereotypical references that may be offensive”), Thomas Edison (first time he permitted his voice to be recorded for the public), and “Hooray For The Irish.”

I played on the new Foo Fighters’ record at the invitation of Dave Grohl. I went out to their studio and spent an enjoyable time putting mellotron and mandolin on a couple of tracks. The band was very friendly, not to mention huge Zeppelin fans, so by the time I gave them a little Rainsong on the mellotron I could do no wrong!

come on, man. you know damn well hard-core music fans will discuss indie, classic, old-timey, jazz, etc, any day of the week, but you’re not gonna drastically change the format here because you currently operate under a formula that brings in the most visitors, which is what you seem to want. you have good taste in music (as evident in bands and genres you briefly personally mention, but rarely really write about), but you only sporatically write about obscure and challenging music, discussions of hight art and origins of american music because over half of your audience could care less and is here for britney pics and crappy “it” bands like the killers. not that there’s anything wrong with that, but sometimes it seems like you are pandering and neglecting topics that interest you, which makes it doubly wrong to ask a condescending question like the quote i pulled above, even if it does apply to most of your readership. it’s your blog, man, just don’t alienate the people who probably respect your music tastes the most. take care.
