Convert SHN to MP3 - AfterDawn: Guides
Law students given practical experience through national volunteer program UW’s SHN President and third-year law student Jennifer Cunha, who organizes the trips, said organizations overloaded with cases will hand students a case regardless of their year in school, giving students practical experience outside of their ...
Kathleen Turner will return to 'High' for a San Francisco engagement No matter its troubles on Broadway, "High" nabbed Turner a Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance. Perhaps it'll find its heart in San Francisco. Tickets for the SHN Curran Theatre run go on sale on Friday.
Using the mkw Audio Compression Tool [http://www.etree.org/mkw.html] can take you from .shn to .wav easily, then iTunes’ll be able to convert the .wav files to .mp3.
Prepare for the wrath of the SHN audiophile nazis, who insist that an SHN should never be converted to an MP3 for fear of the inferior-quality copy infecting the world.
I seem to recall Stereogum is a Mac-user (like me), so, yeah, X-Act is probably the most complete app, but the GUI tends to get in my way. I use a down-n-dirty SHN converter called “Carbon Shorten” that works well, but is GUI-challenged. You can get it here, I believe: http://www.softsound.com.
And, yeah…you really shouldn’t convert SHN/FLAC to MP3. It does wreak some real havok amongst traders.
Get Shorten (freeware), which will convert to AIFF, and then convert to m4a (AAC) in iTunes. That’s all I ever do, and it works out super. Here’s the link I used.
I second the xACT recommendation–it converts ‘em all (.flac, .shn, even .ape). But as stated elsewhere, it converts to .aiff or .wav only, but that’s an easy conversion in iTunes or most other audio programs.
charlie: I have downloaded almost 18,000 albums of music to my PC, averaging 37MB each (by downsampling to 96kbps). shn would multiply that 37MB by a factor of 10. Do the math to figure out why I use mp3 instead of shn or ape or flac or whatever.
Charlie:
SHN doesn’t play on iPod. For an Apple guy on the go, that’s plenty good enough reason. And to give you a quick dipshit check, just because you convert a file doesn’t mean it’s gone forever. If it’s so important to maintain fidelity you can simply not delete the original SHN and keep the MP3 on your portable player/laptop/etc.
People want to convert shn to mp3 because shn sucks they take up massive amounts of disk space they are difficult to listen to and burn to cds and are a general pain in the ass. Traders are the whole problem with sharing music they hoard their collections only accepting trades and then bitch and moan about converting shn to mp3s or converting anything to mp3s get a damn life.
I can’t for the life of me get shn files to play on my computer, despite the fact that I have an shn plugin. Nor can I burn it to disc because Roxio does not recognize shn as an audio file. Please help, I am completely lost and can’t figure this out. I’ve figured out every other file type other than this one.
yeah i just use winamp for my shn needs. you can download a plugin that reads shn files. from there u can go to sound output, mp3 output, wav output, or even output it directly to your burner. i recommend winamp 100%
p.s. does anyone know if itunes is going to make a shn plugin?? that would make my life so very easy…
hi. i am unable to get the etree one to work as well.
a box pops up saying “mkvSFX has unpacked the Setup files to your TEMP folder and launced Setup. Once Setup completes, click OK to remove the Setup files from your TEMP folder.”
the problem with this is, setup never launches.
does anyone know how to fix this and get the program working?
joe go back to where you specifed the download of the setup files, for me it was c/Program Files, then open the file that says something like menu.exe. And the program starts.
Converting to mp3 does take away from the quality, however to most ears you would never be able to tell the difference. Tapers and musicians will be able to tell a difference between flac shn and mp3. Normal average Joes will not and therefore will always bitch about tapers being elitists. I thank all tapers for what they do they give up there time and a good close spot to tape a show for all of us to enjoy after the show or who may have missed the show. As to taking up space its no problem hard drives are cheaper than they used to be and therefore just get a new one. If you cant afford a real external buy an internal for the fraction of the price and a 5 dollar external case put it together and wow you now have an external at the fraction of the price. Thanks again tapers keep the grooves flowing
Using the mkw Audio Compression Tool [http://www.etree.org/mkw.html] can take you from .shn to .wav easily, then iTunes’ll be able to convert the .wav files to .mp3.
xACT is free and easy for Mac users. You can convert to AIFF or WAV and then drop into iTunes.

I need to convert MP3s to 8 track any help?
Dude, I’m all for converting. Fuck those elitist “DO NOT ENCODE TO MP3″ bitches. Some of us don’t have hard drive space coming out our ass.
Does anyone know how to convert Flac to MP3?
Preferably for a mac. Preferably on the free and easy tip, too….
check:
MacFlac:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11650
and
Mac Shorten for .SHN
http://www.hornig.net/shorten.html
FLACer.
It has a nice/simple GUI. Of course, it only converts to AIFF or WAV. Then you’ll use the LAME iTunes plug-in to convert to MP3.
mkwACT is a really good one.
go to etree.org …
now onto celebrity gossip…
anybody hear about this???

I don’t get it. Why would you want to convert shn to mp3? Is hard drive space that expensive? Its impossible to convert back.
