Angelina is feeling litigious! Media journalists beware:

According to Ananova.com, Angelina Jolie has issued a document to media personnel stating that should they ask personal questions they will be sued for an undisclosed amount.

The document reads: “Interviewer will not ask Ms. Jolie any questions regarding her personal relationships. In the event Interviewer does ask Ms. Jolie any questions regarding her personal relationships, Ms. Jolie will have the right to immediately terminate the interview and leave.”

Pink Floyd reunite for Live 8! They’ve set aside their differences in the hope of attracting attention to the politics behind the festival:

Gilmour said: ?Like most people, I want to do everything I can to persuade the G8 leaders to make huge commitments to the relief of poverty and increased aid to the Third World. It?s crazy that America gives such a paltry percentage of its GNP to the starving nations. Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context, and if reforming for this concert will help focus attention, then it?s got to be worthwhile.?

Billy Corgan opens up to Pitchfork! He’s upset about the lack of academic discourse about his work:

Think about it. I mean, there are books on Radiohead, theories. As far as a theoretical point of view for my generation, I’m probably the most successful theoretician. I mean, double albums and concepts and dresses and major disasters and wonderful successes and yet you don’t see the critical review of my work. Why? Because it’s all focused on the persona. Billy Corgan. But I get to sort of jump in and be Billy Corgan. But then I get to sort of jump back out and be like, sensitive man in the corner.

  1. This re-confirms all past beliefs that Billy Corgan, to me, is a self-obsessed douchebag.

  2. loveanddeath  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

    Corgan…?

    not you too, matt!

    syphilis is sweeping the naaaaation~!

    lollerfuckingskates!

  3. Billy Corgan needs to crawl back under the rock from whence he came.

  4. Justin  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

Yep, the G8 leaders are going to act on third world poverty because Pink Floyd are reuniting. And specifically because they have agreed to play no tracks off “The Division Bell.”

I think this is one issue I agree with Damon Albarn on.

  5. Justin  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

According to an article I just looked at, Dave Gilmour has a personal fortune of $86 million. It’s crazy that Dave Gilmour has that much money when people in Africa are starving, isn’t it?

  6. Irish Mike  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

Godamn, Billy Corgan is a tool. That guy needs to stop whacking off to pictures of himself.

  7. mark my words, the floyd will get half way through the set before roger waters walks off stage. then gilmour and the rest of the band will continue like nothing happened.

  8. Evan  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

I challenge all the people criticizing this concert and the people participating in it to spend THEIR day on July 3rd doing SOMETHING to help those people in Africa they seem to be so very concerned about. That is unless you’re too busy complaining that Radiohead isn’t on the bill.

  9. Yale Bloor  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

Billy Corgan needs to start using more of Jimmy Chamberlins stash, maybe then something good would happen to him and his music…like hanging out at the Betty Ford Clinic or ODing…He blows, and speaking of washed up pompus asses David Gilmour & Roger Waters havn’t put out any good music in over 30 years…tell them to send there own money to some third world dictator so he can vacation in Vegas more often…Wow wheres my Ritlian…deep breaths, I miss gummer and need Britney pix…Please let me know if gummer was kidnapped by hippies, I’ll call John Walsh

  10. I came here to comment on what a complete mong Billy Corgan is, but I see I’ve been beaten to it :/

I agree with Justin, Albarn’s comments were decent for once. But the concert is still better than nothing.

  11. ChrisG  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

As far as the Angelina article goes, Ananova isn’t the most trustworthy site.

    http://www.ananova.com/about/index.html?keywords=Corrections,Clarifications

In regards to the Live8 concerts, no amount of Pink Floyd can save us from the oodles of mediocrity that has plagued the rest of the line-up.

And Billy Corgan… Well, he looked better when he had hair(I’m saying this as a completely heterosexual male).

  12. Yale Bloor  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

Hey Evan I’ll mail em some Ayn Rand books, you think that will help?

  13. Billy Corgan never had talent, yet he wants intellectuals to write about his lack of musical talent? Fine with me–hand me a crayon and I’ll get to it.

  14. pageblank  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

Evan: Yes, going to a concert that is NOT raising proceeds for Africa will really help Africans.

Doing some stupid publicity stunt for one day is not going to help Africans. There are many ways to help the poor in Africa, but watching Pink Floyd in concert is not one of them.

  15. “Billy Corgan never had talent”

I’m not a fan of Corgan, but that coment is disingenious. Like him or hate him, the man obviously has talent.

  16. Silk (stop looking like me) worm  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

I could write a theory of why Billy Corgan looks like a silkworm.

  17. lanky14  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

Silkworm! Oh god that’s funny. Every interview of or comment from Billy Corgan reinforces his image as complete git.

  18. erklie  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

i can’t stand in his musical light, either.

  19. penelope  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

ha! my message to Billy.. “learn to sing”

you know..while he was in smashing pumpkins.. how HE”D play a lot of the instruments for the recording..not allowing THE band to play them.. being such a perfectionist you’d think he’d get someone ELSE to sing his songs.. his voice BILLY is HORRIBLE!

  20. matt  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

i’m with N. that J. is an idiot…the idea that anybody would seriously maintain Billy Corgan “never had talent” is laughable.

Corgan wrote 2 of the best rock albums of the Nineties, Siamese Dream & Mellon Collie. In fact, Siamese Dream was a nearly flawless guitar-rock album the Pumpkins were undoubtedly one of the best and most influential bands of the 90s. Their music also holds up a hell of a lot better than most of their contemporaries. Corgan has always been obsessed with his own place in the rock lexicon and self-important, so criticizing him about this gets as old as critcizing his obviously weak voice.

  21. Justin  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

Is there anybody out there who could actually sit through both discs of “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness”? Only Master P’s “MP Da Last Don” could surpass that jawn for bloated double disc awfulness…

  22. donnie  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

the album (mellon collie) was so awful that they were able to play to sold out crowds from October 2005 through February 2007 supporting it and it sold about 10 million copies in the US alone. Sure its bloated, but that’s the nature of a double album and I would challenge anyone to name a single double album that does not share that very same characteristic. Further, mentioning SPs and Master P in the same breath is ridiculous.

  23. donnie  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

*obviously the dates above should be 1995-1997 not 2005 – 2007.

  24. David Gilmour may not be “worth” $86 million, but most starving African bands kind of suck.

  25. Yale Bloor  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

Since you still answer to Donnie and not Don I will assume you were born in the late 80s, I could name over a 100 double albums that that would kick mellon lassie in the ass, but I’ll just post two and let you be the judge “Donnie”

  26. Chris  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

I never understood how it happened, that one day so long ago in the garage, that Billy Corgon thought to himself, “I should be the singer!”. He has the most grating voice in rock music. And I mean grating in the bad-way! And an unmerited ego to boot!!! barf!

  27. Evan  |   Posted on Jun 13th, 2005

I’m not saying anything about the concerts themselves. I’m just saying at least these artists are doing something. Saying they should give all their money away or go live in Africa if they want to do something is just silly. Would you? They’re trying to help the best way they can, which is no doubt through their music since that is what they are known for. The Live 8 concerts aren’t about money, they’re about raising awareness so that people WILL do something. Of course, if everybody is as thick-headed as you all seem to be, it may be in vain. Leave it to a bunch of hipsters to find something to be cynical about in helping starving people…

  28. UglyRedHonda  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2005

The iTunes picture of Corgan for his new album is one of the creepiest pictures I’ve ever seen.

And that’s saying something, as I used to have a neighbor that was into HR Giger stuff.

  29. Justin  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2005

“Saying they should give all their money away or go live in Africa if they want to do something is just silly.”

Why is it silly when Dave Gilmour is specifically calling out the US for giving a low percentage of its GNP to foreign aid (a simplistic measure of generosity at best, but that’s besides the point)? If he’s going to do that, I’ve got the right to call him out for amassing an obscene fortune.

donnie: Prince’s “Sign of the Times”

  31. Re Ang / Ananova.com:

I think we’ve gotten to the point where any sentence that begins “according to Ananova.com…” should just be ended right there. Kind of like “I know it’s none of my business, but…”

  32. Grimmone  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2005

The problem that I have with the Live Aid 8 Concert is the same problem that I had with the whole P.Diddy “Vote or Die” campaign.

Although I have to admit that I’am a big Roger Waters fan and I do think seeing him with Gilmour, Wright and Mason is going to be a big highlight.

  33. “Sure its bloated, but that’s the nature of a double album and I would challenge anyone to name a single double album that does not share that very same characteristic.”

    London Calling!

    Beeeeeeeyatch!

  34. Rich One  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2005

It is good that Gilmour can donate to his time to help out with a good cause. At the same time, if anybody has $86 million, they can donate something a little more useful than time. He can’t just drop a couple million if he cares so much? Take matters into his own hands a little bit instead of just donating his celebrity as a way to make money? It would be like pocket change.

However, it might not get as much media coverage.

  35. Evan  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2005

I’m not going to get into a foreign policy debate on an mp3 blog. While I do agree that just staging a concert isn’t going to change things completely (although it does seem to be making somewhat of an impact, just with the attention it’s generating toward the issue), at least it’s something.

  36. Uri, if we’re including vinyl doubles then Blonde on Blonde is a good example as well i reckon.

  37. indyguy  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2005

forgetting for a moment the starving children, it would be really kickass if Floyd at Live 8 played almost none of their material from Wish You were Here forward and just focused on their badass spacey rhythmic sound with the bulk of Meddle (and grudgingly some Dark Side…particularly the last couple tracks) being the core of the set. Is it heresy to suggest that Dark side/the wall is played out?

  38. Grimmone  |   Posted on Jun 15th, 2005

I’m really really praying that if Floyd does do “Great Gig In the Sky” we won’t be treated to Mariah’s dog whistle version of the song, pray that she is soooo far from the venue when the Floyd goes on and that Waters puts his foot down! I agree indyguy it would be cool to see them do songs from Meddle.

  39. grimmone  |   Posted on Jun 15th, 2005

Or it could be much worse it could be Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas singing “Great Gig In the Sky”….. ewwww shutter at the thought!

  40. donnie  |   Posted on Jun 15th, 2005

    Yale Bloor:

i was born in 1980…and thanks, but i (and every other self-respecting rock fan) already own both of those records. You could name at least a 100 double albums that are better than Mellon Collie…well, you’ve named one, best of luck with the other 99. Live disks obviously don’t count, douche.

and, Uri…you’re right. London Calling is an example of a double album that isn’t bloated. but, its a RARE exception…and one of the best records ever.

  41. Has anyone else noticed that on Billy’s MySpace profile, where he does his infamous blog, the three genres he has listed are “Alternative/Classical/Emo”?!@?

    How does that work?

And I’ll write a book about Smashing Pumpkins. Shit. Let’s get to it, Billy! I liked everything before Adore.

    Heheh.

  42. biggestfloydfan  |   Posted on Jun 28th, 2005

pink floyd are there to support the cause not solve world hunger by paying there hard earned money to put an end to it
besides who cares how much money gilmour has he has treated us for over 30 years with beautiful guitar solos and awesome concerts. he deserves his 86 mill. and i would personally thank the band for reuniting for the show, and beg to see comfortably numb brain damage eclipse us and them and one of these days for live 8 show
