TBA if NYC will declare CBGB’s a landmark. In the meantime, rumors about the legendary punk club’s future continue to swirl. My favorite, via Westwood One:
MARKY RAMONE: This is another thing I heard, it could be a rumor … Japanese businessmen want to go there, dismantle it, take it back to Japan and rebuild the whole thing in I think Tokyo and make it CBGB?s there. You know, so, that could happen.
Hilarious, yet sort of awesome.
%s1 / %s2

that would be sort of awesome. i’d go to tokyo for that.
I wouldn’t be surprised. There’s just as many Japanese that are wild about America as there are Americans crazy about the Japanese.
I don’t know if that’s the most punk rock thing I’ve heard or the least. I dunno
It’d prolly be cooler in Japan than as an official “landmark”. And Japanese rockers in a reassembled CBGB would be completely punk.
I guess I’ll be the first to say this reminds me of London Bridge being bought and reassembled in Arizona….
I can’t wait…You think that the bathrooms will be intact…theres no way they can make it through customs too much blow ground in every crevice…
uh, as someone whose lived in Tokyo for quite a while (in Shibuya, not the sticks), I can say for certain that CBGB here would be a tragic hangout for the worst type of hipster. Hell, even Momus would probably pop by to hang out with the D&G punks.
Japanese who are obsessed with American culture are not as pathetic as Americans obsessed with Japanese culture….but damn its close. The only genre of Japanese music (sans traditional/world) is electronic. Its all posing besides that. Seriously, how many good clubs are there in Tokyo?
Yeah, and they’re all micro-house based.
No, at CBGB Tokyo, you could probably get all hot to see Babyshambles for $70+
They’d probably at least get some use out of it: there’s nothing punk about Bishop Allen.
Funny; I had to help out a young girl (maybe 12 years old) who was on the W side looking to get to CBGBs.
Maybe it can just be a museum, as it really hasn’t served much more of a purpose than that over the last decade.
damn, i was going to say about the london bridge thing.
that was hilarious, but you know, the americans thought they were getting tower bridge!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
jesus, fools, trust foreigners to thihnk that every bridge in london is called london bridge.
didn’t this already happen?
At least we don’t like The Libertines? They really, painfully, crack addictingly, suck.
