Anyone remember Pepsi’s Cool Cans promotion? Young MC rapped about it in the commercials. Fifteen years later and I can’t believe the jingle’s still in my head.
Cool cans are coming so don’t be afraid / If you get lucky then you might get paid.
I hope Young MC and Vanessa Huxtable hit it off. It would be like I Love The ’80s meets Real World: Austin meets The Biggest Loser.

Sad to say, I still have one of those “neon” ones. I think I drank the thing in the summer of ’90 and decided it was worth saving.

Two things:
1) Kelly LeBrock is fat? Damn, that sucks. I really have to avoid watching Celebrity Fit Club just so I can keep that “Weird Science” image of perfection of her in my mind.
2) I remember there was a rumor with the Cool Cans contest that the winning cans didn’t have Pepsi in them, just some kind of unknown clear liquid, and that someone actually drank it and got sick.
I’m almost positive that the Cool Cans were not the ones with the $100 in them. I think that was done at the same time, but by Coke, not Pepsi. Cool Cans were a contest, but I think it was the traditional “look inside to see if you won” contest.
I do also remember the rumor about the liquid not being soda and people complaining because the $100 didn’t pop out so they drank the not-soda thinking it was a normal can. I suppose the liquid was supposedly harmful. But man, that was in pre-internet days, so rumors had a lot more of the “purple Monkey Dishasher” effect back then.
