  1. it’s leakier than Wilt Chamberlain’s knob

  2. white man  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

man, now I know what it would sound like if a bad Jim Morrison imitator was fronting The Vines singing a tuneless Irish drinking song

I’m sorry where is the chorus to this song, and all the others that have leaked?

  3. calliwell  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

Ew Jim. Ew. Though yeah, this is the third single out ain’t it? What gives Strokies?

  4. tommy  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

    WEAK WEAK WEAK!!!!

If anyone walked into a local bar and saw a band playing a song that sounded like this they would point and laugh.

Have we all been trained to accept this band as…good?

  5. Holla  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

Haha…shouldn’t it be “more leaky than a baby’s bladder”?

  6. craptain Krunch  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

    pogues anyone?

  7. because  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

talk about going through the motions, do they even care about good songs anymore? they have absolutely nothing to say and nothing to contribute to music anymore

  9. Vallie  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

Julian Casablancas wants to be Hamilton Leithauser soooo bad, it hurts.

  10. i can’t wait for the first tracks to leak from the 3rd arcade fire record “tales from a cold winter” and people will be ripping it like the FEMA director. love live those bitter hipsters!

  11. mattshu  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

julian could use some voice synthesizing a la britney spears.

    …love youuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaahhhhhh

    bad. just bad.

disclaimer: i liked room on fire

  12. I posted another song from this album, if anyone is interested in further mediocrity.

    trainwreck number 3

  14. MissNee  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

    my god, that’s awful

  15. Molly, Scott already posted your exclusive song a week or so ago. And I fucking love these new tracks. You are all losers.

  16. Robert  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

Sure, I may be going ‘against the grain’ by saying this but I love new Strokes, all three songs. Call me an asshole all you want, but new strokes have a lot more character than old strokes… I will reserve my final judgement until I hear the entire album but I have my hopes set high, probably around the bridge of my nose and I’m eight feet tall. So, that’s pretty high, I don’t have to tell you folks.
Just for the record, I own their first two albums and I like them but don’t love them. I think they are spotty with some excellent songs and some alright numbers. I prefer Room on Fire… just so you know where I stand.

  17. I never said anything about an exclusive. My bad.

  18. Jonas  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

As an indie rock enthusiast and a Strokes fan in the past and person who is very open to a band changing or just fine tuning their sound, either way, the new stuff has been lacking in a big way. And this latest song, awful.

  19. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Wait…did I say “Ewwwwwwwwwwww” yet?

  20. I like the Pixies and Blondie, so I liked the first two songs.

  21. We’ve posted “15 Minutes of Pain” on the ‘Stamps, in case the other links get shut down.

    http://www.badmintonstamps.com/zarchive0510.html#158

  22. is it just me or have these 3 new ones all felt really stiff and labored without the natural flow of the early stuff? Sounds like they are going against their musical instincts. Bet the producer has a lot to do with this.

  23. Judging from the responses here and elsewhere, I’m in kinda the middle ground when it comes to these new tracks.

So, “Juicebox” isn’t very good, but I like “You Only Live Once” well enough (especially the non-vocal parts of the music). But man, is this new one ever ruined by the vocals. I like the music, particularly the chimey 6/8 time stuff in the first half of the song, but what the hell were they thinking with that vocal track? I’ve not listened to any of the three closely enough to judge the lyrics. Julian’s never been, you know, much for depth or anything when it comes to lyrics.

Maybe they’ll grow on me. I hope so. I like “Room On Fire,” but these new songs have me feeling uneasy about the new album.

  24. So music good, singer bad…. maybe they can fire Julian and replace him with Sammy Hagar.

  25. This song blows, more so than Juicebox. At least You Only Live Once is good.

  26. my opinion of this song matters!

  27. two.  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

    see, i’m a juicebox fan.
and i didn’t think this one was bad at all. a bit weak, but pleasant.

    oh well.

  28. Sorry for the random comment, but has anyone ever actually gotten one of those free iPods? I tried one of those congas and they just stopped updating it… so I’m trying to give it a shot and start a new conga.

If you want a shiny new nano as much as I do (but don’t really want to pay for one), give the conga thing a shot with me.

  29. adrienne  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

yeah, i got a free ipod back in the 3rd gen. I think they’ve made it harder to get though…

  30. Juicebox was a box of cocks in a tree. This was better, but it’s still really poor. Who the hell decides to stop copying Television so that they can start copying The Pouges?

  31. maury  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

I got a free 4G iPod from freeipods.com. It really does work if you keep at it. I suggest asking cowrokers or friends to take pity on you and sign up.

  32. Technically, baby’s bladders aren’t leaky. Like, they’re not _trying_ to hold the urine in and like despite their best efforts it’s coming out anyway. They’re ACTIVELY PISSING INTO THE DIAPER. Okay, preschool is over.

  33. Stereogum: ACTIVELY PISSING INTO THE DIAPER

  34. karl  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

ok so this one sucks. and “juicebox” sucked even with the spyhunter theme as the opening riff! but “you only live once” is a great song and could hold it own against most off of “is this it”.

  35. Huggy Bear  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

Sigh… I like all three as well- particularly You Only Live Twice. This band will break up and regroup years down the line and everyone will line up and label them “geniuses”. I mean really this is a fantastic band and bravo to them for switching things up a bit. I can’t wait for this record!

  36. don’t be afraid of change kids.

this new strokes stuff is ok. the last two albums sounded identicle. i don’t think a third disk of the same material would be interesting. change is good.

  37. Kyle  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

It seems than whenever a band like The Strokes who have carved their sound so deeply on their debut always try to perk up their 2nd and 3rd releases with funkier drums (chickychicky-boom-boom-chickychick)…

    That shit’s stupid.

  38. squatch  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

it’s not good. it’s almost, if not, a mismatch of vocals and music.

  39. Mike  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

    Holy Shit, Juliann can’t sing!

  40. cody  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes strokes.

  41. Damn, yall are some snarky mofos. Strokes 3-D are 2 for 3 in my book now. (I didn’t like “You Only Live Once.”)

  42. Devin  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

There’s a difference between innovaive progression of change and flat out making horrible music. There’s nothing to this song that is redeeming or interesting. I think the mixing or production is off or something. I hope this is a demo because julian sounds really off for a lot of it and the music does not complement his vocals at all. I’m a huge strokes fan too…

  43. mavis  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

this song is genius… i love its progression

  44. they’re no clap your hands or wold parade.

  45. they’re no clap your hands or wolf
    parade.

  46. My least favorite of the three but at least they’re trying new stuff.

  47. anthony  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

damnn.. it wont work, anyone know how i can get it?

  48. Devin  |   Posted on Oct 20th, 2005

So much more talented than clap or wolf parade…

  49. you idiot  |   Posted on Oct 21st, 2005

yeah soo much more talented…yeah right you dumb fuck shit

  50. mattshu  |   Posted on Oct 21st, 2005

at least their trying new stuff, huh.

maybe tomorrow they’ll sing into a turd and strum your mom, then leak it onto the internet.

you’ll have to like it because hey, at least their trying new stuff.

i’m glad michael jordan quit basketball. his baseball career was a success because hey, at least he was trying new stuff.

    retarded justification.

    Taxi for Casablancas

  55. two.  |   Posted on Oct 21st, 2005

isn’t everything julian does after his 12th pint?

  56. Whoa,… I listened to it last night and it totally sucks, and I usually try to see the good in music.

  57. matt27  |   Posted on Oct 21st, 2005

This song actually starts off quite great, and then gets a little messy. BUT in the beginning I swear to god he says “…had a smoke, take a shit, it was fine.” What the fuck? The only thing that keeps me from thinking that this stuff isn’t a joke is just how polished it sounds.

  58. missnee  |   Posted on Oct 21st, 2005

are you sure they didn’t the song cause it sucked?

  59. matt27  |   Posted on Oct 21st, 2005

I’ve gone over this in my head, about leaking the songs as kind of a prank, but I doubt it. Mainly because theyw ould draw some anti-fan flak for doing something like that. Also, based on the video casting calls for juicebox it’s safe to assume that that’s actually the lead single…. Scary.

  60. Dude  |   Posted on Oct 22nd, 2005

I liked the second half o f this song.

  61. wendy  |   Posted on Oct 22nd, 2005

a mi no me gusta este sencillo pero yo voy a apoyar a los strokes hagan lo que hagan…

  62. Where’s the link?
Wanna get a glimpse of what’s happening in Tokyo, go to my site Newtectonic and get a loads of mp3

  63. i’ve listened to the first line of 15 minutes of pain and it’s already my most favourite song in the entire world. really can’t say that about juicebox or their second album though. but glad they’re back to their old sound with 15 minutes of pain…

  64. katiejane  |   Posted on Oct 23rd, 2005

yes thank you craptain Krunch– you read my mind– they are completely ripping off the Pogues.. You Only Live Once is the only good track from the set so far

  65. i like that cars/ talking heads song best. i think the other three will have to grow on me. i’m sure after a few listens they will all sound good…i think i like the strokes enough to give them another chance. ps: rock critics suck.

  66. Fucking god awful Pogues rip off with no direction and no point. Obnoxious dreck. Let’s hope their 15 minutes are up, har-har… Oh, wait — they are!

  67. michael  |   Posted on Oct 25th, 2005

why is everyone so negative on these things, i think these songs are a new style for the strokes i think there quality, PS im sure you are all fat and ugly and coodnt write a good song if your lives depended on it, so stop fuckinnaysaying eveything and get lives, go outside fatties

  68. Money  |   Posted on Oct 26th, 2005

The newest Strokes’ “Razor Blade” is also out now. Look for it on your local p2p service!

  69. ugh#2  |   Posted on Oct 26th, 2005

  71. shosha  |   Posted on Oct 30th, 2005

you are just ridiculous.the strokes are brilliant, the only rockband of this last years who worth it.i don’t understand all this hate.julian casablancas is almost as talented and charismatic than lou reed,he’s not the rockstar clichĆ© like pete doherty,he’s just doing his music, not shamble.like most of all genius,he’s misunderstood.the strokes will last forever.

  72. shosha  |   Posted on Oct 30th, 2005

    p.s.:listen “heart in a cage”,it’s pure perfection .

  73. marc  |   Posted on Nov 1st, 2005

  74. grav  |   Posted on Nov 1st, 2005

u guys all suck hardcore cock, the strokes r fuckin awesome and there new songs r sick, cept other side that ones a lil slow, u want them ot go colplay style? just keep doin the same shit and sounding the same? tehre experemingting and its sounding good so far, the strokes kick ass and all u guys that dont think so can go suck cock

  75. grav hater  |   Posted on Nov 2nd, 2005

MTV.com says Heart in a Cage was a recycled track that didn’t make it on Is This It 2.0 January is taking forever to get here!

  76. casablancas  |   Posted on Nov 2nd, 2005

c’mon guys, don’t de so stupid, the strokes are the best band, it’s ok if they tried something new, if they did the same stuff you would say “it’s the same we want something new”, so just stop saying shit about them, and stop saying so fucking shit about julian, that is much more charismatic than any other guy, he’s a music genious. THE STROKES RULE

  77. somefanyouare  |   Posted on Nov 5th, 2005

those who hate the new songs need to get yourselves a new set of fucking ears. what the hells wrong with u people their new sound is fucking amazing. so they made a departure which they pulled off perfectly they cant stick to the same sound forever. those of you who reckon julians vocals suck go fuck off u have shit taste in music

  78. Casablancas2  |   Posted on Nov 5th, 2005

Im gonna have to agree wtih casablancas 1. The new sound is different, but the strokes are like riding a bike, at first you dont understand, but when you stick with it, play the album through a couple of times, you realize what you have been missing in your musical pallette. The music is so refined that most people think it’s shit, but thats the thing, it comes from realism, there are no gimmicks attatched to this band. There are no catch phrases, they dont have these haughty rockstar personas, they just are, and they do the same with their sound. Personally, Juicebox and Razor Blade get better and better every time I play them. So phuck you naysayers. The Strokes have done it again.

  79. emilia  |   Posted on Nov 9th, 2005

i canĀ“t believe what all those stupids guys wrote here.. the strokes are great!!! the best!! and julian sings wonderful.. y heard them in a show and it was like the cd… julian is the top of the world.. they are very cool guys and very glamourous…
and their new album is terrific!!!
    love you jules!!!!!!!!!!!
    go ahead!!!!
    emi

  80. Cyndi  |   Posted on Nov 9th, 2005

AND, in conclusion, The Strokes new sound is fkn amazing… if all keeps up, i can easily see this album being talked about for years

  81. Felix Stolz  |   Posted on Nov 11th, 2005

i think this song has really merrit. It sounds like a bar song because, its meant to sound like someone pouring their heart out, drunk or whatever, that why i think he is singing with that kinda slurr, this is just what i am getting from the lyrics, but i dunno, and in terms of musicianship i think the song holds merrit in bass, guitar, and even fabs drums arnt bad.

  82. Casablancas 3  |   Posted on Nov 11th, 2005

the strokes are THE best band in the history of the world, and their new stuff is AWESOME. anyone who says otherwise fucking sucks and needs to get their head checked. Julian’s vocals are great–way better than any of yours. I totally agree with Ugh, you’re all just jealous fatties, so ha.

  83. Jens  |   Posted on Nov 11th, 2005

What a fucking great song! Maybe this album will be better than Is This It…… No, that’s impossible. But I love all the five songs that have leaked. It makes me dance around in my living room! The Strokes make me happy! And his voice is supposed to sound drunk and crappy. Don’t you know Julian?

  84. fede  |   Posted on Nov 12th, 2005

this is a drunk waltz, so epic and charmingly desperate with an air of a riot but then not like making windows drop but herts. It’s fast, it grows in time and space and it just moves like a train. The vocals are just perfect in the way they mean to be, man does people doesn’t listen to music loud on their stereos anymore??? if you don’t want to scream whatever the lyrics of this song are to somebodies face while listening to it, gosh, then your listening to it with your fuckin ipod on volume 4 and trying to pick up something it want come up on your computer speakers or your nano. Music is alive in here, and what about all that song structure discussion….’it has no chorus’ FUCK thank god it doesn’t. Does anyone remembers they do like the VU and The Doors? Anyway nobody really cares about what we say in here, it was just alarmingly snob what I was reading so I wanted to say I just love this song.

  85. great song! I love it

  86. Lizzie  |   Posted on Nov 14th, 2005

The song ironically is like the comments, don’t know whether to agree with the negative vibes at the beginning but towards the end and after listening/reading twice or more if necessary- I want to say to all of you narrow minded idiots that the Strokes new turn in music and their sound is fucking amazingly overwhelming! These songs will be even better live, though i admit 15 minutes of pain isn’t the best example of their new greatness. But its experimental, and so what, its a moaning drunk song? Julian pulls it off well enough to be on an album that i’m sure will be incredibly successful, + you are all talking about it, so its obviously ‘made a mark’ on all of you (as cliched as that may sound.)So yeah they might sound like the Pogues, they’re not a bad take off, and they sounded like Velevet Underground before, so what’s the big deal with similarity?
My favs are Razorblade, You only Live once and On the otherside. Can anyone hear Under Pressure by David Bowie in You only Live once or is it just me?

  87. Mr. Kite  |   Posted on Nov 20th, 2005

i love all the new stroke songs just as much as their old stuff just in a different way cuz the sound is much different. i dont know how anyone can listen to this song and just say it sux. some people are being too critical and narrow-minded. im glad they didnt make this album an “Is this it” part 3. great different songs, cant wait for first impressions of earth to come out.

  88. Roger  |   Posted on Nov 24th, 2005

u guys are all hayers……cant appreciate mucis cause u cant make it yourselves…strokes rule

  89. Strokes rule  |   Posted on Nov 27th, 2005

Most of you who commented on here are pretty much fucking retards. Your all like “oh god, they changed they’re sound so therefore they suck.” Whatever. So they changed they’re sound some…..they’re just experimenting, that’s what fucking musicians do you idiots. Is This It was very poppy and then Room on Fire was more of a different sound, but they were still two amazingly great albums. Julian still sounds as good as always. Nick and Albert have come up with some great riffs and some equally as great solos. Nikolie definitley has a lot more influence on these songs than he did on the first two albums. Plus Fab is playing the best stuff he has done to date. Julians lyrics are still as flawless as ever. Don’t be so judging you dumbasses. I will admit that they have changed quite a bit and it has been more towards the new age sound, but that doesn’t mean they haved turned to “the darkside” of music. I’m sure none of you motherfuckers would say anything about The Velvet Underground changing their sound because it was so influencial on music. That is exactly what The Strokes are doing. They’re trying to give you a different perspective of they’re music…..maybe you should open up your fucking ears and listen to what they have actually done for your feeble music minds. And please don’t give me any shit about me being some kind of pop music sellout and that The Strokes and The Velvet Underground are the same band. I’ve heard it a fucking million times. So maybe you should stop criticizing these actually musicians and go out and see if you can even come close to matching their talent.

  90. Julia  |   Posted on Jan 7th, 2007

The vocals on 15 Minutes of Pain sounds a LOT like the Pogues, especially the opening lines. I know Julian is a fan of Shane MacGowan… maybe that’s what they were influenced by. At any rate, I think it’s a decent song. Dreamlike, to be sure.
