There are these NME spoofs, both of which are pretty spot-on.
If you’re in a band in the midwest, you might relate to this piece from this week’s edition of The Onion, though it can’t compare to This Is Spinal Tap, which was named the #1 “Greatest Rock and Roll Movie Of All Time” in Blender this month. Apparently, Ozzie Osbourne and Steven Tyler find the movie hard to watch because it hits so close to home.

God I hate Blender. Anyone else agree that it is the most poorly written stack of PR articles and horrible reviews that tries to pass as a “music” magazine? Rolling Stone is a close second.
Back when Blender first came out, a friend of mine, who is a real music journalist, told me about a friend of hers who worked there… apparently, their practice was to not give bad reviews to albums on labels owned by the same corporate parents as the magazine. Now, this is third-hand information from like 4 years ago, but it isnt’t exactly surprising. The worst rating they give any album is like an 8 out of 10. Or the equivalent.
I found myself with a $6.99 year subscription to Blender, and while I’m frequently entertained (mostly by captions), the review section and new VH1 style list every month is so tiring. It’s true; they NEVER give less than 3 stars unless the stab their taking is an easy target. Hence I read it to be entertained rather than informed.

New political satire with sort of a pop-punk sound.
If This is Spinal Tap is the #1 movie, then I really hope that The Last Waltz is #2. Waltz is the best straight-up rock movie ever made, and powerful, but Spinal Tap is pure genius on several levels, including the obvious satire and the fairly accurate depiction of music show business and life on a the road.
