Stereogum’s been enamored with the Dresden Dolls since the “Girl Anachronism” and “Coin-Operated Boy” videos.
Last night Amanda Palmer went solo (sans Kabuki make-up!) at Joe’s Pub. While I didn’t make the show, Jeff filled me in immediately after. Amanda’s Brechtian riot grrrl shtick went over really well with the NY hipsters, and Edward Norton was there too. Jeff took the photo below.

Her set included covers of Nine Inch Nails, Regina Spektor, and Antony & The Johnsons. She did not, however, unveil her version of this Psychedlic Furs classic, which will appear on the fortchoming High School Reunion comp:
The Dresden Dolls – “Pretty In Pink” (MP3 Link Expired)
And while we’re at it, here are The Dresden Dolls live in Paris, covering Queens Of The Stone Age.
The Dresden Dolls – “No One Knows (Live 6-22-05)” (MP3 Link Expired)
You can download four DD album cuts (including “Girl Anachronism”) at their site.
What do you think of the P. Furs cover? I think Amanda and Brian do it justice.

it’s weird…the dresden dolls aren’t really that well-recieved amongst the hipsters in my area, it’s generally just the one uber-goth ringleader. It’s the only thing she’s been right about…
this band is really really horrible. they both look like they stepped outta Hot Tpic and their music is just horrible. this cover of the Furs is incredibly lame.
I actually really love this cover, though not a fan of the Dolls in general
amanda is the cover queen. but nothing beats the cover of “karma police” that she and brian did with jerome dillon when they were opening for NIN. i’d like to see an mp3 of that one
ok totally unrelated, but any y’all see this?

Are we gonna see ICP on the stand?
i still think you should put me in your ‘cool kids’ section. cause i’m cool.
What Spektor song did she cover? Are there any recordings floating around yet?
I’d love to hear her do Apres-Moi Le Deluge or the Flowers.
My ears hurt……
That was the most unoriginal cover I’ve heard in a long time…by far
They did a pretty damn good War Pigs when I saw them last year and she encored by herself doing “Such Great Heights”.
for the love of god, doesnt anyone have an mp3 of the ridiculously good cover of ‘material girl’? fucking great show.. ed norton even tried to buy my ticket at the door and i got to see brian in the back of the bar for the early part of the show.
The download is not working for me: it says “Page not found”
can anyone help me ?
