Mystics is great. That second track, Radicals or something, is the kind of hot-shot soul that Prince should be doing in 2006. Damnit, that song is huge. It’s got to be a single.

I danced onstage with them when they opened for Beck at the Beacon a few years back. There’s nothing like looking out at 2000 shit-eatin, ear-to-ear grins, especially in one of the most jaded cities in the world. The Lips can do no wrong. I can’t wait till the Webster shows.
I thought Yoshimi was a step down from Soft Bulletin and I think this is another step in the wrong direction. It’s not bad, but there is not one song that has the energy or catchiness of so many past Lips’ songs.
I’m surprised how quiet it sounds on the film when in reality it was an utterly deafening albeit fantastic experience. oh and those balls start to hurt when you get hit in the head for the 246th time.
Does anyone have the Studio version of this that was on that Queen Tribute?

At War With The Mystics is as good as Yoshimi. Which is to say it’s brilliant in my little music nerd world. I love the track “It Overtakes Me”. This is one of those albums that you put on and forget about having to skip through the crapass tracks. Wish I could have been at SXSW to see participate in the ball orgy…
I’m not going to post a link to my review of the new disc, but I will say I think it’s better tha “Soft Bulletin” for a myriad of reason, not least of which seems to be that the band has finally rediscovered their guitars.
Plus, that Pink Floyd circa 1970 tribute near the end is just fucking awesome.
i saw the lips at langerado in sunrise, florida last week… surprised at the lack of coverage, stereogum! Wilco, Rjd2, C.Y.H.S.Y were there too! Anyways, Bohemian Rhapsody was completely captivating live. many tears were shed. Then they covered Ozzy. that’s right. surreal.
That was BAD-FUCKING-ASSED.
