I reeeeally dislike all these mope-ass post-Coldplay bands but I have to admit, having just spent the last week in the UK hearing this tune on the radio every single day, I was loving it (mainly for the chorus; I’d never even noticed that lame U2 intro before) after hearing it a couple times. I think this is a tune you could eventually find yourself resignedly turning up on the car radio this summer–assuming you were stuck in a car with only commercial radio and no iTrip or CD player, obviously. Really, not bad.
My friend works at their label and played me the album this weekend. It’s even poppier in many spots but I remember the opener being darker and reminiscent of “OK Computer.”
I hated “Somewhere Only We Know” at first but it eventually grew into one of those songs I professed to hate but would turn up in the car as long as I was alone. The lead singer looked like a huge douche bag with that leather jacket in the video though.
Anyway, I don’t see myself secretly listening to this track in the car.
I like it, it’s so catchy and energizing. They just seem to put together songs really well; their other single “Atlantic” is really beautiful. I cant say I listen to their other album anymore, but I’m looking forward to Under the Iron Sea.
I’m with the initially-hating, subsequently/surreptitiously-loving Keane crowd. When their album first came out, I didn’t want to dignify its existence with a listen. But later, I needed some mid-tempo piano rock, and Coldplay can only take you so far, so I gave it a whirl and loved it. I vote for “Sunshine” as that album’s great track.
I liked it better when they didn’t have guitars. Wasn’t that supposed to be their schtick? This is way too over-produced, way too “go-big-in-the-USA”, and way too blah. I liked, dare I say loved, the first album (I was listening to “On A Day Like Today” in the car today of all coincidences–best tune they’ve ever done) but this just doesn’t do it for me. I really started to lose respect for them when their dink of a lead singer made an ass out of himself in the Rufus Wainwright documentary–he couldn’t string a coherent/intelligent sentence together through the whole interview!
Go get The Eraser instead.
firsty..i could never compare keane to U2. They do their own thing. I loved hopes and fears and i still do..and once i heard this new song is it any wonder? i must say it’s sure that the second album will be another masterpiece from them.
100 spins before liking “Somewhere Only We Know”? Ease up on the crack, sister. What about “Everybody’s Changing”? That’s the bomb. Looks like all the stupid hipsters are too afraid to like a band with heartfelt songs. They’d rather listen to crap like Secret Machines or Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
OMG—you dont get it do you people? Keane didn’t use guitars on Hopes And Fears and THEY DO NOT USE GUITARS ON ANY OF THE LATEST SONGS! It may sound like it but they dont! Just goes to show how good they really are when they have you believing they do!!! :p
good tune good lyrics catchy beat. keane are uncomparable. there last album had 80% of good songs, which cant be said about many albums now a days. refreshing and catchy music at its best!!!
When Keane first came out, I didn’t care for ‘em. But as time went on, I grew to like ‘em more and more. I gotta say, “Is It Any Wonder?” is a very, very catchy.
Can’t wait for the album!
i think that you are talking a load of crap. there is not 1 thing that keane have done musicaly that is not fantastic, and they are tottaly there own people and never riped any other band off musically. They write all there own material, and are the best thing to come out of music in this country for many years, and tom is hottttttttttttttttttt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so shut your mouths.thank you for reading my coment.
perfect for your next trip to urban outfitters
I couldn’t ever get past them being the new Air Supply.
Actual title: Is It Any Wonder It’s Even Better Than The Real Thing? (lame…they’re waaaay over produced)
they suck. so bad.
ugh.
Keane = shit.
Considering “Somewhere Only We Know” was a third-rate Travis ripoff, I think I’m gonna have to y’know, sorta disagree on that one.

Fell asleep just looking at this post.
That CD better come with someone who punches you in the arm every forty seconds, or there’s going to be a mass onset of narcolepsy.

Sounds like a lost Actung Baby-era U2 B-side, but with a slightly better singer.
Keane may be losing their audience in dentist offices as it rocks out a bit too much, but you never know.
As if the real U2 wasn’t bad enough. Ugh.
Love it. But that’s just me apparently!

I actually think this is a great song…poppy as hell and sounds like U2, who cares, it’s fun to listen to.
not unlike “The Bends”-era radiohead, IMO…though it could use a bit more angst. at least this is promising.
I like them, though they’re not my favourite. They’re songs become bland about halfway through the album. Maybe the new album will fix it?
