The band least likely to cover “Faith” explains its choice. (Via theboyleastlikelyto.co.uk.)
“the idea was put forward to us to record a cover version of a song by an artist from the nineteen eighties. and we had a go at doing geno by dexy’s midnight runners, but it sounded rubbish. and we had a go at doing a couple of other things but none of them seemed to work. we were [sic] just sat around scratching our heads and twiddling our thumbs, and then amanda applewood suggested trying faith by george michael and we laughed at her as usual. but then we did try it, just to humour her more than anything. and it was weird. it sounded like us. somehow. it sounded like the boy least likely to. we put some recorders on it and some banjos and some hand claps. and that was it really. nothing else needed.”
Listen to George Michael’s twee makeover…
I bet George likes this one more than Limp Bizkit’s version.

It’s not a bad cover, but I’m getting a little tired of these 80s covers.
I think hearing Dashboard cover Big Country almost ruined the month.
Boring.
Sounds like a bunch of Christian teenagers sitting around a campfire singing a song that’s basically about a guy finally giving in to the reality of his homosexuality.
Not only is this cover unnecessary but it completely lacks any effort. Just because they use typically campy instrumentation (banjo, glok, hand claps) in their songs doesn’t mean it translates into success.
I think the fact that this song was listed as the token indie inclusion in “Your Top 10 Summer Anthems!” in some crappy magazine I was reading in my dentist’s office is reason enough to put a hex on it.
old news
Why is it that, for us hipster types, a song has to be ground-breakingly original to be worthwhile?
I think the cover is fun to listen to, and that’s enough for me.
the original sucked too
there’s nothing fun or cool about “wacky” 80′s covers. especially snarky “ironic” ones with “hilarious” instrumentation. i have never heard anything else by this band and after hearing this, i will make it my business not to.
i think it’s a fun cover! what’s wrong with you people? you guys are CRANKY.
Their MySpace page has a free download of a b-side to their current single.
Get their via the homepage posted above.
The Boy Least Likely To is an AWESOME band. Don’t judge them by this cover. Their album last year (is it out in the US yet?) is one of the best pieces of pure pop bliss I’ve ever heard. I don’t go around proclaiming how great this band is or that one is, but this album deserves it.
Some of the songs lack, but “Be Gentle with Me” “I see spiders when I close my eyes” and “Sleeping with a Gun Under my Pillow” are as good as pop songs can get.
Its an album about death and fear cloaked by the most insanely cheery and sunny sounds ever created.

I like it. Reminds me of Tunng’s cover of the Pioneers if they’d done it more conventionally.

I actually enjoyed this so much, I opened up the source code and downloaded it for myself.
One more thing…
What a bunch of ass-licking corporate tools this “Boy” band are. They have to be told by the record company to do a cover. No original thoughts in their heads, even with regard to recording a cover version, and then do a totally shitty job at it.
And these fuckers got signed. Bunch of tools.
I just saw these guys and they played this song. It was definately one of the funniest performences I have ever seen. The lead singer literally stopped singing and started a whole conversation in between one of the lines. Definately a good cover that matches their persona.
this is the best cover of faith I have heard…
