Thanks Pop Candy for reminding me to write about Luna. My biggest concert regret of last year was missing the band’s last show. Over the years Luna perfected a style of laid-back, woozy rock that was as critically lauded as it was commercially neglected. After twelve years, even Jem on bass couldn’t help ‘em sell enough t-shirts to stay afloat. Tell Me Do You Miss Me documents Luna’s final days and is the most depressing rock DVD of the year. Watch a preview (Win Media).

Fortunately, there’s more posthumous product. Rhino recently released a greatest non-hits collection and a digital-only comp of Luna’s best cover songs.

Here’s an interesting Q&A with Dean in EW. (Via Largehearted Boy.) Apparently he’s writing a memoir and will release a new album with Britta in January. And as if that weren’t enough, Dean plays Clyde Barrow in the new Hong Kong video “Tongue Tied” (WIN MEDIA | QT). So he’s keeping busy. We’ll miss you Luna.

one of my favorite shows of all time was seeing luna at the new daisy theatre on beale street in memphis in 1994. seven (yes 7) people showed up, and only three of us paid to get in (the place holds about 800). it was truly obscene, and obviously the band was bummed. they played a helluva show, though, and at the end we all bought t-shirts even though they only had small sizes. surprisingly, they never came back to memphis…

  4. Start with the Best Of! Then go buy every CD in chronological order.

  5. Lunafied is great but watch out for the European release in September which will have more songs and will be a REAL release…lots more Luna info and downloads on my website…
