Jarvis Cocker’s joined MySpace and he’s got “something to share” with us common people:

If all the technical bits & pieces are working properly then you should be able to hear a new song I’ve been working on. I wanted you to hear it now cos It’s exactly 1 year since that Live-8 thing & it was the night of that event that I wrote this song. I apologise for all the swearing but sometimes that’s the only thing that seems appropriate.

It’s in no way a criticism of Geldof & co. but I remember thinking at the time: “Where does engaging with these politicians/businessmen really get you?” – ( 12 months on & the cunts still haven’t paid up as far as I can make out) – maybe the problem is something more ….. fundamental. Anyway, what do I know? I’m just a pampered rock star – but at least I think it’s good to discuss this stuff. Don’t you?
Let me know what you think.

Oh yeah – & thanks for visiting. I hope this is just the start of a beautiful relationship.

love, Jarvis xx

  5. Oh, thank you for this! It just made the “second Monday” of the week so much more bearable.

Carlos — thanks for the mp3. Jarvis has been away far too long… Glad to see he’s not softened up one bit.

Jarvis Cocker is brilliant. At some award show where Michael Jackson was performing his “I’m the children?s Messiah” schtick, Jarvis jumps up on stage and sticks his ass in the air and waves his hands around. Mocking the whole BS performance. Brilliant for calling people out on their own shit.

Big Pulp fan, but ever since “This Is Hardcore”, it seems like Jarvis has kind of given up on song structure and been content with just kind of bleating atonally over non-descript backing music.

And “shit floats?” This is the guy who once wrote the brilliant:

    “If fashion is your trade/
    then when you’re naked/
I guess you must be unemployed, yeah?”

It’s disheartening to hear him resort to junior high-level cliches.
