Cool clip (ok, half cool) from the Decades Rock Live tribute to Elvis Costello airing Friday on VH1 Classic.

Rolling Stone notes: Billie Joe is the nervous one in leather and eyeliner whisper/singing like he’s at a high school talent show and Costello is the badass in shades belting it out like he’s in the shower.

Watch. (QT)

Fiona Apple and Death Cab also perform. This is what they covered.

The next Decades Rock salutes the Pretenders. It films 8/11 at the Trump Taj Mahal and features Iggy Pop, Incubus, Shirley Manson, and Kings of Leon. I’m guessing Shirley will duet with Chrissie on “Talk Of The Town.”

Best New Artist Grammy winners over the past 25 years: Did they live up to their title?
For every no-brainer (Mariah Carey, Amy Winehouse, Adele, pictured), there are some equally contestable choices (Paula Cole over Fiona Apple, A Taste of Honey over Elvis Costello) and plenty of controversy to spare. (Rule changes still didn’t ...
Grammys 2012: How have the best new artist winners fared?
A Taste of Honey beat The Cars, Elvis Costello, Chris Rea and Toto ... to whom she is now married. Paula Cole beat Fiona Apple, Erykah Badu, Hanson and Puff Daddy. Having two songs break into the top 20 in 1997 was a career peak: she has continued to ...

  1. Did Diana Krall make an appearance?
Damn, that fake Jazz singer is white. Like polo in the Hamptons white. Like pronouncing her “r’s” like an indie rock singer white.
Whiter than all of my Iowa relatives put together.
    Caucasion.

Based solely on Mr. Costello’s choice for a bride, he’s lost whatever taste or touch he may have once had.
Elvis Costello, c.1979 wouldn’t have been caught dead in the same city with an imposter like Billie Joe Armstrong.

  2. I don’t hate on BJ, but next to The King of Geek Chic, BJ’s cred drops to American Eagle uncool.

It’s “sticky.” I’m not too sure that’s what he sang there though.

Great show on VH1C Friday night, only marred by some spotty sound-mixing and the producer/tool asking retarded questions in a creepy and uncomfortable “panel” setting between songs.

I’m not a big fan of Fiona’s, but her “I Want You” (always better live than on CD) was stunning, and her “Shabby Doll” must’ve reminded everyone listening that for quite a while, EC was the finest songwriter on the planet. Someone’s gotta have mp3s of those!

Armstrong was alright, but seemed more interested in looking too cool for it all. Seems like he was a casual EC fan brought in as a drawing card, unlike the others who obviously knew and revered ECs stuff. Too bad, as his set of the early EC punk/wave stuff was tailor-made for a passionate performance.

Well I think Billie Joe was good in that

    =S

Looks like I’m alone with that opinion lol

personally i think billie joe did a really good job!! he sounded so good, so i’m not sure why most of these people are insulting him… i think he and elvis costello made a great team, but maybe i’m not listening to the same performance as they are because it’s really good :D
