One interesting factor in the impending Zune/iPod War of Christmas 2006 is the looming possibility of the Beatles going digital for Microsoft. Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Morgan who follows Microsoft, wonders if the company will shell out the cash. It sure would give ‘em an edge in acquiring the music fans who didn’t download the 28-album Beatles torrent on Pirate Bay.

Let’s take a look at a list of popular artists who are still holding out on digital music.

  • The Beatles
  • Led Zeppelin
  • Metallica (just added to iTunes!)
  • Radiohead
  • Kid Rock

God forbid some frat boy pays 99¢ for “Bawitdaba.” He’d miss the whole concept of Devil Without A Cause. Anyway, Mr. Rock will relent as soon as someone tells him Bob Seger finally gave in.

and radiohead’s entire catalog is actually available for legal download through warchildmusic.com. they opted to make their work available there because it was, you know, a cause.

    8. I hope the Beatles hold out.

    9. Of course, most people who are interested in Zep or The Beatles probably already have most of their discography by now. If not, they can just rip it from their brother/sister/friend/mom/dad.

how do you “rip” a vinyls?

    11. With the audio input jack on your computer and the right software.

    12. Is there anyone left who doesn’t have Led Zeppelin IV or the White album?

    13. wow Kid Rock is still popular?

The Beatles aren’t on there because of the whole Macintosh Computers “Apple” vs. the Beatles “Apple” publishing trademark fight where many years ago Mac promised never to enter the music business. BUT, I thought that due to the most recent ruling in the case, the Beatles were finally going to have their songs available on iTunes. But who knows…maybe they appealed again.

As for Led Zep. It took them like 30 years to agree to have their songs on a commercial, but they caved in the end, so look for the debut of “whole lotta luv” on itunes somewhere around 2030.

Kid Rock isn’t on there because he was advised by his record label that he wouldn’t get the right amount of royalties and get ripped off like Cheap Trick.

And God knows Kid Rock needs all the money he can get… roll eyes…

Who even owns the Beatle’s catalog anymore? I thought it was Michael Jackson and Courtenay Love?

      & radiohead is more of a cd/digital type band/music….

i wonder if any of ‘em would put out their music on 8 track tapes?

(i wonder if anybody gives a poop)

    18. Fuktallica  |   Posted on Jul 25th, 2006

Who would fucking pay anything for Metallica?

    19. I just hope Radiohead aren’t holding out because their “indie maaaan” when in reality they are extremely far from it.

    20. Kid Rock, Metallica, and Led Zep are all available on Napster.

“I just hope Radiohead aren’t holding out because their “indie maaaan” when in reality they are extremely far from it.”

When did Radiohead ever claim to be “indie”? And as someone already said, they aren’t holding out; you can download their discography from warchidmusic.

    22. Friday  |   Posted on Jul 26th, 2006

Actually, Radiohead is exclusively available on warchildmusic.com.
