Wow. What an original and diverse selection of artists.

    REF: SARCASM

  4. goood luck to all those working hard on the VMAs, and the related website!

  5. goood luck to all those working hard on the VMAs, and the related website!

  6. call me ignorant, but I had no idea that hip hop and rap were two different genres of music.

    BEST VIDEO GAME SCORE???

Ummmm, 25 million on Robotron. Do I get a Spaceman?

  8. I feel like this VMA will be Madonna´s comeback.

  9. No noms for The Yeah Yeah Yeahs?

  10. Mark  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

they’re trying to pass Panic! off as a real, honest statement of artistic integrity.

That video is an abomination, quite possibly the worst tragedy ever committed to celluloid.

  11. corban  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

i can’t wait to go back to school and hear all of my friends rave about how innovative the red hot chili peppers are

    miserable

  12. I’ve only seen “Crazy”. Beyond that, I don’t really care. Since about 1998 or so, the awards have been one long yawn.

  13. So Rihanna is a “new” artist? Are we just conveniently ignoring “Pon De Replay”?

  14. dennis  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

    crap crap crap.

  15. salinger  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

feels like “gold digger” has been around for a lot longer than just the past year.
seriously, i think i saw gordon lightfoot cover it back in the day.

  16. Evan  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

Woah, Magnet did the score of a video game? How about that?

  17. finn  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

no surprises here but how did that new video by xtina manage to squeeze in? it’s relatively new, as well as afi’s. they should’ve gone with the strokes’ “you only live once.”

and by the way, i am sure i am alone in this one, but i will actually root for james blunt “you’re beautiful” video in the categories it was nominated in!

  18. Aren’t these like..the same 6 or 7 videos nominated over and over again, just in different categories?

  19. johnny  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

Another list of crapsters clogging my ears with stink. What a progressive range of artists. I can’t wait to hear some of this fresh new music!

  20. JNYTRN  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

Does anyone even really believe that these are actual awards? Because there NOT, everyone that goes there already knows they are going to win and that its just a opporutnity to plug there cd/video I hate these stupid so called awards. F-you Rhianna or whatever your damn name is your music is so horrible that it makes me want to scratch my face until it bleeds, its almost as bad as Sean Paul and or Daddy Yankee ARRgghhhh!!!

  21. janine  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

I’m pulling for “gold digger.” Ever since Foxx and West started hating each other, their joint acceptace speeches have been must-sees.

  22. Another year where I want nobody to win anything. Sigh.

  23. Robert  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

Did anyone else notice that the nominees for Best Pop Video and Best Female Video are nearly identical? MTV plays the most pop on television, and they still don’t have more than 5 videos they’ll choose from?

  24. michael graham  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

i bet everyone is upset that beirut or the cold war kids (or whichever much-blogged band you won’t be talking about in six months) got zero nominations.

    being hip must be exhausting.

  25. Please please please no more Panic at the Disco. Good luck Rhianna.

  26. Axl Foley  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

pearl jam was nominated for special effects??????? that video contains no special effects. It took an artist 6 months to create everything you see in the video. It’s a statement against special effects. Mtv is a dumbass.

  27. jason  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

panic at the disco is the sound of the emo barrel being scraped to the bottom. their music is basically unlistenable. i assume it won’t be long before the kids wake up and ask themselves “what the hell am i listening to?”

  28. madonna rules  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

Yay Madonna!! BOO Mariah, Rhianna, and all rap/hiphop crap!!!

  29. Evan  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

I’m not one of the virulent Chili Peppers haters; they’re one of my favorite bands ever, and I haven’t heard the new album but “Dani California” is REALLY catchy and the video is entertaining if nothing else, but the editing in the video is TERRIBLE. I mean it looks like the person who did it was drunk. You can actually see the spots where they clipped the footage together at the end…

  30. It’s fuckin’ MTV. They’re totally irrelevant. This doesn’t matter at all, and yet in the half hour since this was posted there have been like 25 people acting like it does matter. This is like when Spin puts together some arbitrary list of The 78 Greatest ________s, and everybody screams about how Jeff Mangum isn’t in the top ten. Granted, Panic! At the Disco is horrible, but if they win an award for Best Rock Video, that doesn’t mean you’re all going to have to listen to them.

  31. stphone  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

looks good, i’ll have to try and watch it this year.

    but where’s Kelis- Bossy?

  32. Yeah Madonna  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

I danced so much to her video my Buttplug fell out, yey!

Who the hell is Jeff Mangum? :)

  36. madonna rules  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

    MVPA Awards > VMAs

  38. VanWalsh  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

    Who gives a fuck.

  39. cindy  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

Ummm… Gold Digger?!@#$%&*?! Isn’t that an old song? Man , MTV has really gone down the drain… Hey, maybe there should be a Stereogum Awards…

  40. tamuchi  |   Posted on Jul 31st, 2006

Lance Bass comes out = VMAs = does anyone really care?

  41. JNYTRN  |   Posted on Aug 2nd, 2006

The VMA’s can fuck Lance Bass in the ass and Rhinna can toss his boyfriends salad for all I care.

  42. Penny Woods  |   Posted on Aug 2nd, 2006

Seriously, Stereogum should ban all Madonna fans that leave stupid posts.

And add me to the list of “People That Wish Panic! At the Disco Should Burn In Hell.”

  43. Pleeeeease  |   Posted on Aug 6th, 2006

Why Penny, because the 284 previous posts with “OMG, the VMAs are so irrelvant!!11!” are that much more insightful and intelligent?
