Robbie’s over-the-top remake of Tin Tin’s ’85 hit is a free download from iTunes, which says RW and Duffy are working together? Makes sense, as Claire Worrall’s sang with both men’s bands.
Tin Tin was actually the work of Stephen Duffy, who was one of the founding members of Duran Duran. Duffy then formed the group the Lilac Time, who created a few albums of Nick Drake-inspired folk pop. Currently, Duffy has been co-writing songs with Robbie Williams, no doubt inspiring this choice cover taken from Williams’ newest album, Rudebox.
We’ve got the original, and a sweet, twangy cut from lilac6 for ya too.
Enjoy!

i’d prefer robin williams covering patrick duffy.
but that’s gay. and hairy.
New 2pac and T.I
i always liked lilac times “american eyes”
Stephen Duffy’s been Robbie’s songwriting partner and live band member since the previous guy, Guy Chambers, was sacked. So that makes it two albums Stephen and Robbie have made, plus two songs on Robbie’s Greatest Hits album.
So great to see Lilac Time getting some bloglove. They are underheard, underrated, etc. etc….
Broken link – you put two I’s in Tiime
Good to see underrated genius Stephen Duffy on the blog – I don’t think he’s been that involved with Rudebox, whereas he co-wrote and produced most of Intensive Care… but this will keep the royalies rolling in to fund another couple of Lilac Time albums. For Lilac completists there are a couple of songs covered by RW on his b-sides (The Postcard, Family Coach) which make you think he could cover the entire Lilac Time catalogue… Anyway, for me, Rudebox = the UK Beck. Where It’s At, anybody?
ROBBIE WITH DUFFY IS THE BEST COMBINATION EVER
ROBBIE IS ACE WITH RUDEBOX, SPECIALLY COVERING MANU CHAO’S (KING OF THE BONGO)
