Yeah, I heard that commercial on the radio the other day. I was offended, and reminded again why I hate radio.

  2. Alec  |   Posted on Oct 30th, 2006

that was so lame. i can’t believe she said that.
p.s. the half-baked reference made me laugh

  3. finally maybe indie rock will just be for real drug users again.

  4. man, the war on drugs is so lame….

  5. kevin  |   Posted on Oct 30th, 2006

Everyone knows that this girl’s story is fake beacuse everyone whos anyone knows that real indie rockers dont laugh.

  6. allison  |   Posted on Oct 30th, 2006

    what the fuckkkkkkkk

  7. Flem  |   Posted on Oct 30th, 2006

This ad is ironic, because I honestly think that one of the reasons indie rock isn’t that fun or even good right now is that the bands and audiences don’t smoke ENOUGH weed. That’s the only explanation I keep coming up with when I try to figure out why — and this comparison is just off the top of my head — Sufjan Stevens (a Christian who makes music for pussies) is more popular than Black Mountain (an awesome rock band).
Indie rock is just about the only genre I can think of where the thought of dropping acid at a show is just absolutely depressing and horrible.

  8. That’s pretty fucked up.

  9. Fed-Ex Pope  |   Posted on Oct 30th, 2006

This kind of rhetoric is just unintelligible and of no real value to anyone, let alone to teens who may or may not want to try pot.

Who approved this and how much money was wasted that could have been spent on something actually wortwhile?

  10. Oh well, the government always needs an enemy. Hip hop’s too mainstream and goth and emo kids are just too goofy. Congratulations indie rockers, now just stay clear of Kent State.

  11. Howard  |   Posted on Oct 31st, 2006

great. the american government is attacking the coveted jewels of my youth: marijuana and indie rock. Keep the reefer unsparked during the Silversun Pickups/Birdmonster/touring pot-smoking no-good indie rock group show; feds are on us.

this ad makes no sense. Do either the ONDCP or the Partnership For A Drug-FreeAmerica expect this to be effective? wth

  12. UselessDave  |   Posted on Oct 31st, 2006

As a former user who still likes indie rock…this was ridiculous. I love when someone in a position of authority finds a new word like “indie” and uses it to sound hip. Because it is non rascall flats music, that makes it “stoner music”…god, awful….arrgh. I may start smoking again just to forget about this PSA.

  13. Tareth  |   Posted on Oct 31st, 2006

Really, if you pay attention to it, this ad doesn’t relate listening to indie rock with smoking weed. What the ad is TRYING to say (unsuccessfully I might ad) is that you shouldn’t do things you don’t want to do with the intentions of becoming “popular.” You know. Good intentions and all that BS. Obviously they didn’t think it through when alienating everyone who enjoys indie rock. :P

  14. They should have hired …Trail of Dead to do the soundtrack on the commercial. They could have used this song.

  15. bubba o'reilly  |   Posted on Oct 31st, 2006

shes probobly better off listening to bands signed to major labels, cause lord knows they never are about conforming…and they certainly never smoked the pots.

  16. austin  |   Posted on Nov 1st, 2006

AHAHAHA, probably the hardest I’ll laugh today. God bless you anti-drug PSA.

  17. rama  |   Posted on Nov 2nd, 2006

that sounded really cool with that weird effect on her voice. that actually made me WANT to smoke pot.

actually non-indie corporate rock even can sound good when you’re really really really high!

  18. taylor  |   Posted on Nov 6th, 2006

what if you replaced the words “indie rock” with “hip-hop”?

  19. Matthew Jacobs  |   Posted on Nov 8th, 2006

Well this is a radio PSA for commercial radio. I tend to think that commercial music interests have either donated to the Drug Council or there is some under the table agreement to both “fight” drugs and fight the rise of non-commercial music.

Forget piracy, perhaps the newest enemy of commercial music profitability is indie rock.

  20. tomas  |   Posted on Nov 10th, 2006

there aint no good indierock bands out today

  21. fvfvfvfvpanterahhahaha  |   Posted on Nov 10th, 2006

    MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB!!!!

  22. fvfvfvfvpanterahhahaha  |   Posted on Nov 10th, 2006

    MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB!!!!

  23. What? Whoever said there aren’t any good indie rock bands out anymore is obviously crazy and not looking in the right places. Broken Social Scene, Tapes ‘N Tapes, Neko Case, Feist, Arcade Fire, Peter Bjorn & John, Grizzly Bear, The Good Life, Someone still loves you Boris Yeltsin …dude I could go on forever.

  24. does anyone know the name of the song from the above the influence commercial when the chick falls in love with the alien?!?!?!?!?!?

  25. i think that the are on drugs is useful and very good potential in helping kids reach what they really can achieve. if we had no drug control then we are no better then the peeps who od”drugs are just a way to escape reality, why escape reality when you can rule the universe then do all the drugs you want” my personal saying that is in my mind

  26. roman  |   Posted on Feb 20th, 2007

what the F are you talking about. I think that person is smoking something more than pot. Personally I think some people should stay away from drugs especially kids under 16.

  27. I really want to know the name of the song from one of the above the influence commercials… the one with the girl and the alien…

    help :D

  28. martin  |   Posted on Jun 1st, 2007

the robot voice sounds even cooler high.

  29. thomas  |   Posted on Jun 19th, 2007

ne1 know da name of this song please?
the alien under the influence commerciall
its really relaxing if you ask me…

  30. not so sure  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2007

That song makes me want to DO drugs, horrible choice of music. But still, what song is that??

  31. not so sure  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2007

Some deep googling tells me at least 1 of the songs is by Charlie Campbell (http://www.charliecampbell.com/). He has one longer version of a song (mp3) on his site too!

  32. Pepapepe  |   Posted on Aug 11th, 2007

Yeah! Now, I can like Britney Spears and other commercial music prepared in a can for me. And guess what! my friends think it’s cool! I don’t need to like indie rock, which has a bit of soul to it. That’s kind of too much for me.

  33. hey man. drugs aren’t bad.
indie music isn’t just for druggies though..
i mean, i listen to the beatles, the eagles, jimi hendrix, but i also like a bunch of hard core shit like Job For A Cowboy.

i forgot where i was going with this..

  34. disgruntled  |   Posted on Dec 27th, 2007

has anybody checked out the live above the influence website? Well its the biggest bunch of lies piled toghether in one steaming pile of shit that I have ever seen… Apparently if you smoke pot your suicidal and pot has 4 times more cancer causing tar in it than cigarettes…shit i better watch out I might be dead soon…such blasphamey…Also weed makes you isolated form your friends and all depressed and you have lack of motor fucntions and all that. Shit is that true? well I usually do it with my friends and then go play sports or something like that and laugh my ass off. It seems like everything they say the opposite is true…its ridiculos..And Im pissed seeing all that bullshit doesnt turn me off to weed at all it just made me wanna smoke more damnit and I cant cause im on probation so thanks for that you dumbass website….

  35. yo does anyone know that commercial where the dude is young and then gets like a cacoon of weed around him and then hes old????
