All we know about Hinder is that they’re the new Nickelback and they hate OK Go. But when we heard that the (sigh) popular band will be releasing a cover of Eddie Money’s “Take Me Home Tonight,” we sat up in our blogging chairs. That’s a fucking awesome song! And it’s perfect for drunk karaoke, actually — especially if your gal can pull off Ronnie Spector.

Even if their version sucks, it’s a timeless ’80s rock cover choice (a la The Ataris’ take on “Boys Of Summer”). You’re still everything that’s wrong with modern rock, though, Hinder. Take a listen to a fan-captured live performance of the band doing Money here. One of those tunes even they can’t fuck up (too badly)!

Hinder could possibly win not one, but two year-end awards:

    (1) Worst song of the year: “Lips of an Angel”
    (2) Inspiration for best/funniest Pitchfork track review of the year (Lips of an Angel, 1/2 star): “That this sort of nail-gargling seems to strike a chord with the folks reminiscing about that sophomore year lap dance to Pearl Jam’s “Black” speaks to the public’s boggling tolerance for sappy emoting of all colors and Creeds. Consider this fourth-gen grunge stinker Fuzztone For The Painfully Stallone, and just throw in the towel.”

Nothing new about covering that song …New Found Glory used to cover this when they were still a local band and we all know how that turned out.

Hinder will never be my little baby.

  8. That “be my little baby” part just comes out of nowhere, as if it’s not even supposed to be part of the song.
