It was a suicidal breakdown during a Japanese tour in 2004 that forced [Gerard] to get help. As soon as he got back to the States, he saw his therapist. “He said, ‘When you leave here, you’re going to go buy Brian Eno’s Music For Airports, and it’s gonna calm you the f— down,’” Gerard remembers. “I had a bottle of vodka in the trunk just in case, and I listened to [the CD] in a parking lot and felt a lot better. So I threw the bottle out and went to AA.”
We appreciate that Ambient 1 brings serenity to folks confined in LaGuardia … but who knew its healing power over the broken, the beaten and the suburban Jersey goths?

I like how you guys love to talk shit on this band, and then have Gwen Stefani’s new CD on the “What We’re Listening To” section…at least My Chemical Romance play their own instruments and are actually doing something interesting with music. MCR is not the worst
I’m sorry, Shawn, but how is MCR “interesting”? They screech out generic, pretentious emo tripe over boring, mindless music. All Gwen does is try to make catchy pop music. There’s zero pretentiousness in a song like “Hollaback Girl” – it’s just bubblegum pop, and I think she knows that. She does it well (usually).
If Gerard is being true to himself and writing and performing material that is genuine and honest and he really puts effort into it, then fine. Godspeed them. But, to my ears, it’s just a lot of over-the-top gloomy, self-pitying, emo/pop-punk bullshit.

I’d like to state that MCR does not suck simply because they are “emo” (whatever that means) Their new album does, indeed, suck, but if you’d take the time to listen to the older album you’d find some pretty interesting song structures and sonics that, while not exactly Deerhoof, at least gives a good hustle towards interestingness.
If nothing else this proves that music for airports is the musical equivalent of Jesus, which I suppose makes Mr. Eno the big grey bearded creator in the sky.

but mcr’s music strikes a chord with mcr fans who buy mcr cds and support their music with their allowances/paychecks. and they jump up and down at the shows.
what i’ve seen of the indie shows is a lot of name-dropping, crossed-arms, and sturgeon faces. except for love is all. that was a total dorkfest. loved that!
Okay…I Think you people need to stop arguing over the different music. I love MCR, but I also like a little bit o f Gwen. Even though I dont think she can sing live AT ALL, her cds are OKAY. But at leased Gerard doesn’t have to use computers and other electronics to make his voice sound good, he acctually uses his voice. Unlike “Rich Girl.” And any way other people like different music, so get over it. No affence to jojoba,but i think you REALLY need to GET OVER IT!!!!! I like Hot Topic. I like Rock Operas. I like over-the-top.. although I prefer to say they have the coconuts to take a chance and put themselves out there… I admire that. I like dramatic music… Your point?
Maybe I don’t like your music. People have different tastes in music. If I like music you don’t – it doesn’t make me taste-less, and you are not the Rock god know-it-all of music. Quit putting people down for their choice in music.
I don’t get you gripy types… I have never gone out of my way to seek out music I don’t like just to try to tell people how much better I am because what “I” choose to call good music has to be the glorious standard to which all others should be held. Puh – leez.
It amazes the me that because someone listens to one particular band/genre/whatever that they suddenly feel compelled to trash anything else, more often than not trashing anything successful. MCR made one of the best rock albums of the year, it’s over-the-top fantastic, if you don’t like it, shut up and don’t listen. Same goes for Gwen as well, she brings a flair no female in pop has been able to carry since Madonna in the 80′s (though this album isn’t quite as catchy as her last). Saddle up your indie high-horse at another saloon, drown yourself in the sounds of a band people only talk about to namedrop and seem smart, and let everyone else enjoy their music.
*Maybe* “band you can’t avoid hearing even though you’d rather be eating bird shit than mutilating your ear drums with the sounds of anal eruptions” really gets on some peoples nerves.
So they look for music that they do enjoy.
It just happens to be music “nobody has heard of.”
So although you asked someone if they like Super Mega Fantastic Real Popular band and they state that they don’t, doesn’t mean they are trying to “seem smart.” When you ask them what music they do like, the answer may be a band you’ve never heard of. They’re not saying you’re stupid for not knowing who said band is. You just have different tastes in music you fucking hipocrites.

Actually I’m forced to listen to music I don’t want to on a daily basis at work. It’s not like I can turn off my ears.
Actually, I have to admit…I really like “Welcome to the Black Parade.” I don’t care for the rest of the album any more than I do for their other stuff, which all annoys the hell out of me, but it’s actually a pretty good song.
MCR made the best rock albums ever if you like it then don’t fukin listen too it simple as that. and their new album doesnt sux it’s good you people don’t know good music when you hear it. I do get tired of people (usually men) slamming MCR. I am 50 years old and know rock music from the legends to now. MCR’s new album is put together beautifully. The melodies themselves were written by some very talented young men. Even if the words “confuse” YOU, many of us see the talent that pours out of this bands very soul! Watch MCRs Life on the Murder Scene DVD to learn more about these guys. Gerard is now clean and sober and I believe the rest of his band is too. Most people (guys) who seem to hate MCR are also homophobes or wannabes.
I am 42 yrs old and I love Gerard Way from MyChemicalRomance. I have taken my girls and myself to see them live twice. I love “the Ghost of You”, and I must admit I wasnt too happy when I saw the album cover. My daugther was 16 when I bought the behind the scenes. I went ahead and bought it for her and actually sat down with her to see it. I wanted to know what my baby was listening too, beside “the ghost of you”. I instantly fell in love with Gerard. He was way humble and struggling with the same depression I was/am. I felt some connection. His talent and looks just add to the whole package of his beautiful heart and soul. I now am looking for someone who has the same qualities as him in mind and spirit. Call me what you like, but I am not dead and I feel alive when I listen to him sing. I lady can still dream right??!!!!
