Peter Bjorn and John’s Peter Morén on Bob Dylan

Ugh, I find that Ok Go Video flat out stupid. I think the song sucks as well. #1…not!

My vote…M. Ward and Sigur Ros, and of course, Ms. Chan Marshall. I LOVE her. ;)

Also loved the video by Silversun Pickups, “Well Thought Out Twinkles”…great video, killer song!

  2. Martin  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

Crazy is a terrible video. It’s really really boring.

  3. No “Bones”? ;)

  4. Matt  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

i agree, what makes Ok Go better than P, B & J (wow, was I the only one not to get that reference until just now?)

  5. I have to admit, that OK GO video is kind of rightfully at the top of the list just because it was such a hit despite how low the production costs, etc were for it. They may not be the best band in the world, but dang, way to go from being a nobody to performing live at the VMAs because people can’t get enough of you tooling around on treadmills!

I don’t like it, but I get it.

The best video of the year is this one video that I saw that nobody else has even seen.

    It’s awesome.

  7. Buckeye  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

that dizzee rascal video is not from this year I remember seeing it on MTVu when i was a freshman in college 2 and a half years ago.

“i agree, what makes Ok Go better than P, B & J (wow, was I the only one not to get that reference until just now?)”

LOL – Matt you’re not the only one, I just said it outloud for the first time last night and a light bulb went off.

  10. steve perry  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

when did the sigur ros video even come out? the song is from 2001…

  11. The videos for Camera Obscura’s “Hey Lloyd, I’m Ready To Be Heartbroken” and Regina Spektor’s “Fidelity” are two of my faves that somehow missed this list…

  12. marsh  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

mogwai’s friend of the night should probably be in the top 2 or 1

  13. plurp  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

2006 was the year of janky sub-par stop motion, apparently.

  14. Baby D could use a little more love.

No love for The Blow’s Parentheses? I like the song, I like karaoke, and I like awkward hugging. I like it all.

  16. Daniel G  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

    No Muse’s Knights Of Cydonia?

  17. Nate  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

    what is this bullshit man?!

my video cost a MILLION DOLLARS, man! it had pamela anderson in it and me jumping over canyons ‘n shit!

when my video doesn’t get put on this list, stereogum loses CREDIBILITY.

  20. but seriously folks… great new video from a band i work with, mewithoutYou.

unfortunately i can only find it online at MTVU (which blows)…

    http://www.mtvu.com/uber/?lnk=v&name=playlist&vid=121444&source=OD_VIDEO:my+setlist:Nice+and+Blue%2C+Pt.+Two#121444

It’s called “Nice and Blue (Part 2)”.

  21. nate  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

Here here to Cellphone’s Dead. Also, more Gnarls love… the Go-Go Gadget Gospel video is insane. It’s only like 2 minutes but, just like the album, leaves a smile on your face.

  22. you’re telling me that the video for Dizzee Rascal’s “Dream” came out in 2006?? it seems like ages ago when i first saw it.

  23. Jaime  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

Hey, a list on stereogum that doesn’t make me shake with fury! Awesome! And I totally agree with OK Go being number one. I’m sorry, but that’s just an awesome video. Put it on mute if you have to.

  24. Dane  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

“We’re From Barcelona” has my #1.

  25. ajaku  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

Fuck I’m From Barcelona…the Knife is where it’s at. And how the fuck is “Crazy” so high up? Coolish video but hardly brilliant. I’m surprised that there is no Portugal. The Man on here. In fact I don’t think you guys have ever mentioned PTM. That’s some bullshit right there.

  26. nick  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

no love for the “show me what you got” video??

what? you guys dont like nascar and motorboats?

  27. maggie  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

I am really surprised Knights of Cydonia by Muse isn’t on here. That video is pretty fucking awesome.

  28. Barry  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

    What? No Danielson?

The video for that song Did I Step on Your Trumpet is AMAZING. Honestly, its the best music video I’ve seen in years!

  29. How about the Submarines video for “Peace and Hate”

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=ihpFwaPgOZU

I saw them on tour with Nouvelle Vague. Awesome.

  30. Although shocked that M. Ward’s “Chinese Translation” isn’t closer to the top, I’m glad it’s on there. The thing is a thing of beauty – nice animation, understated, and thoroughly compliments the song rather than competing with it.

    Love that Malajube video…Great list

  32. James  |   Posted on Dec 7th, 2006

I agree with the comment above. That Danielson video is rad.

  33. Well Hinder is definitely not going to want to see this.

  34. crilo in p-gro  |   Posted on Dec 8th, 2006

Album Leaf’s “Always For You”: Poignant video for a poignant song.

  35. Jess  |   Posted on Dec 8th, 2006

    danielson!
    danielson!
    danielson!

The video for Peter, Bjorn & John’s “Young Folks” is pretty good too.

  36. i’m guessing the list-maker didn’t see “heart made of sound” by the softlightes.
